What a fantastic announcement we got today! Platige Image, a creative animation studio specializing in designing CG imagery, 3D animation, and digital special effects, confirmed today that they are working on TV series based on The Witcher in coop with Netflix!
The official announcement by Platige Image speaks of multiple seasons. Author of the 8 Witcher books and stories Andrjei Sapkowski claims to be very excited about this project and will actually be involved in the production as consultant on the series.
I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing. I’m excited about our efforts together, as well as the team assembled to shepherd these characters to life.
The series are presented as English Language Drama. There is no more official confirmed information as to how many episodes will there be per season, what style it will be presented with or even if the main character from Sapkowski’s books will be present.
Sean Daniel and Jason Brown (executive producers) also add:
The Witcher stories follow an unconventional family that comes together to fight for truth in a dangerous world. The characters are original, funny and constantly surprising and we can’t wait to bring them to life at Netflix, the perfect home for innovative storytelling.
It was mid-day when the announcement appeared. I have to admit, I completely forgot I still have 2-3 hours at the office. How the hell am I supposed to focus on work now? :)))
UPDATE: We now have a confirmation that the show will be Live Action, not Animation. Who will be in the lead role, though, that’s still a secret.
