After months of speculation by fans and pundits alike, Ben Affleck has revealed that he will not be taking up the mantle of Batman in the upcoming movie. Warner Bros announced that the new movie “The Batman” directed by Matt Reeves is slated for a release on June, 25 2021 and will feature a younger Batman.
Ben Affleck has been the subject of speculation on whether or not he will still be Batman in the DC Expanded Universe (DCEU). In 2016 he was appointed to write and direct the Batman movie but in January 2017 he stepped down because he had too much work on his plate.
“There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions,” Ben Affleck said in a statement at the time. “Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require.”
In February 2017, Matt Reeves joined the Batman project and excitedly told the press that he was looking forward to follow in the footsteps of Christopher Nolan and Zack Sneyder.
“I have loved the Batman story since I was a child. He is such an iconic and compelling character, and one that resonates with me deeply. I am incredibly honored and excited to be working with Warner Bros. to bring an epic and emotional new take on the Caped Crusader to the big screen,” Reeves said.
Ben Affleck took to twitter to confirm that he will not be coming back to the DCEU:
