The Big Bang Theory recently ended its 12-season run and had a lot of memorable episodes. Here is my favorite top 5 episodes.
The Big Bang Theory is one of my favorite comedy shows of the past 15 years. I have been a fan of the show since the first season and I have never missed an episode in the 12 seasons that followed.
What is The Big Bang Theory show about
The whole universe… if you have never heard of that line then you must have lived under a rock in the past 12 years.
The Big Bang Theory revolved around Sheldon Cooper and Leonard Hofstadter and their neighbor Penny, who moves into the apartment across the hall in the first episode. We also meet Rajesh Koothrapali and Howard Wolowitz. Sheldon and Leonard’s best friends with whom they work at CalTech University.
Sheldon is a theoretical physicist, Leonard is an experimental physicist, Howard is an MIT graduate engineer and Raj is an astrophysicist. Penny starts out as an aspiring actress who moonlights as a waitress at the Cheesecake Factory with colleague Bernadette, who studies and later receives her Ph.D. in microbiology. Later on, in the show, we meet Amy Farrah Fowler, who has a Ph.D. in neurobiology.
The show’s characters have evolved a lot over the years. For instance, Howard and Bernadette get married and have kids and are the first couple to come full circle on The Big Bang Theory.
Penny and Leonard were endgame since the start so no surprise that the both of them ended up getting married and Penny even got pregnant in the final episodes of the 12th season.
Sheldon and Amy end up getting married too on The Big Bang Theory. An unlikely couple since they started dating they end up having the wedding of their dreams with Mark Hamill officiating their wedding.
Rajesh ends up not married for the duration of the show. He was selectively mute and had an ersatz gay relationship with Howard in the first couple of seasons. While we as fans hoped that Rajesh would find the love of his life, it just wasn’t meant to be. And while I understand why the writers did what they did, it just would have been great if Raj would have come full circle as well.
The Earworm Reverberation
Sheldon and Amy are broken up. And Sheldon has had his fair share of love-sickness while Amy is attempting to move on by dating Dave, who happens to be a huge fan of Sheldon’s work.
Sheldon is bothered by an ear-worm and frustratingly tries to figure out what song it is that is playing in his head over and over. Even going as far as not sleeping.
When he finds out that the song is Darlin’ by The Beach Boys, he also realizes how in love he is with Amy. He runs over to Amy’s apartment to declare his undying love.
This was the 10th episode of the 9th season of The Big Bang Theory.

The Jerusalem Duality
In this episode we meet Dennis Kim, who just like Sheldon, is a child prodigy who is even smarter than Sheldon. And he is even more obnoxious and arrogant than Sheldon is. Continously rubbing his prodigal capabilities in Sheldon’s face.
While Sheldon loses his confidence in his work and starts to overly criticize other’s works and even proposing to build a second Jerusalem in the Mexican desert to a Jewish professor, his friends decide to lure girls to work to fix up Dennis Kim with a girl.
The trick actually works and the guys are amazed at how Dennis Kim manages to get a girl. While Sheldon is quick to take the stage and tells people how he will continue to dedicate his life to his work and not be distracted by women.
When the guys go to the park later they see Dennis Kim drinking and make out. While the guys feel sorry for Dennis, Sheldon chuckles victoriously saying that Dennis Kim was weak.
This marked the 12th episode of the first season of The Big Bang Theory.
The Vengeance Formulation
Howard and Bernadette have broken up and it is unclear as to why. It turns out that Bernadette busted Howard having cybersex in World of Warcraft , who turned out to be a guy. However Bernie views this as cheating and breaks up with him.
Howard has a sexual fantasy in his hot tub with Katee Sackoff in her Battlestar Galactica suit. While George Takei makes them doubt their sexuality.
Howard goes to great lengths to win back Bernadette.
This was the 4th episode of the 4th season of The Big Bang Theory.
The Long Distance Dissonance
While Amy is away at Princeton, she asks the girls to keep an eye on Sheldon. The girls think that Amy means that they should keep an eye out that Sheldon doesnt run off wildly onto the streets. But Amy means that no other woman would steal away her man while she is away in New Jersey.
When Dr. Ramona Kowitzki returns in Sheldon’s life it becomes quite obvious, like in the previous episode she was in, that she has the hots for Sheldon. When Sheldon confronts her about it she kisses Sheldon on the mouth. Sheldon then swiftly travels to the airport to take the plane to New Jersey to visit Amy and propose in a way that only Sheldon can do.
This marked the 24th episode of the 10th season of The Big Bang Theory.
The Stockholm Syndrome
Two months after Sheldon and Amy won the Nobel prize for their super assymetry discovery the crew is preparing their for their flight to Stockholm, Sweden.
Penny and Leonard keep their pregnancy a secret and Bernadette and Howard leave the kids at home for the first time.
Meanwhile Sheldon acts insensitive for the entire episode causing friction in the group and they decide they want to go back to Pasadena. When Amy tells Sheldon how insensitive he behaves he has a turn of heart and gives the best damn speech you could hope for.
The Big Bang Theory legacy and Conclusions
While I don’t think that ALL the seasons were amazing, I am however impressed that the show held out for so long.
The Big Bang Theory will be remembered for making nerdism a normal thing and hopefully having inspired more kids to go for a career in science.
The show may be off the air but with Young Sheldon, the show will still continue to go on in some capacity.
