Marvel's Agents of SHIELD

Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD canceled after 7th season

The TV show Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD has been canceled. The last season will air in 2020. This comes as no surprise to me as the show had very low ratings and has been on the verge of cancellation a few times after the second season.

In my opinion the show should have been canceled after the fifth season. The last episode could have easily served as the series finale with Phil Coulson passing away alongside his beloved Agent May.

Instead  the ABC not only moved the show to their summer programming but also renewed it for two more seasons. The sixth season is currently airing and altho I haven’t seen much of it, the current season is pretty good so far.

“When you know that’s what you’re doing, you can take greater risks, of life and death,” Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb says of the conclusion of ABC’s Clark Gregg-led superspy series, which is currently in the last weeks of its explosive sixth season. “Those kinds of decisions suddenly now are real on the table because you’re not playing how do we undo this when we get to the next season. You’re playing that this is going to be the end of the story.” (source Deadline

The season finale of the sixth season will be a double episode and was teased by Chloe Bennet who plays Daisy Johnson, also known as, Quake on the Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD television show.

“My favorite part about the finale is the very, very end, because it will be a big shift that sets us up for next season,” Chloe Bennet said during TVLine’s most recent set visit. Jeff Ward, who plays Deke, echoed that sentiment, saying, “The very last thing in the finale is great. Very, very good,” while Elizabeth Henstridge advised fans to “stay tuned until that last minute of the finale!”

Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD impact on MCU

Agent’s of SHIELD had a great concept at the start of  the series. The show would connect the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the world of television. A great but risky concept. How would you handle that logistically?

The first season was slow and it wasn’t until the Winter Soldier’s movie release that we found out that Hydra had been infiltrating SHIELD over the past 50 years.

The impact on the show was huge and a great resurgence in viewership was the one of the consequences of that.

Young actors steal the show

The show featured some great new talent mixed with cultured actors / actresses to provide a great dynamic.

Some of the big names featured throughout the years like Powers Boothe, Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Bill Paxton and Jaimie Alexander reprising her role as Lady Sif.

But new talents emerged as well. I became a big fan of Elizabeth Henstridge’s acting for example. She plays the scientist Jemma Simmons and I hope to see her in future TV shows and movies.

Chloe Bennet, I saw her before on the country themed TV show called Nashville. She had the biggest character development in my opinion. She went from being a hacktivist to becoming one of the first Inhumans. A race of humans who were genetically altered by a warmongering space race called The Kree.

And what to think of Brett Dalton, he played several different roles on the show with different takes on his character called Grant Ward. It showed that Dalton has a wide range as an actor.

Agent’s of SHIELD most memorable comicbook characters

Since it is a show based on a comicbook or comicbook characters, I was looking forward to seeing some B and C characters. I figured out soon enough that Captain America or Iron Man wouldn’t be on the show. That would cost the show too much.

Instead we got to see Deathlok, a long forgotten character from the Marvel vault. Instead of becoming a cyborg like the comics, this version was an ordinary man becoming the victim of Project Centipede. He was injected with a drug that granted him superhuman and cyborg like abilities.

Robbie Reyes as the Ghostrider. Growing up, I was a fan of Johnny Blaze but seeing Robbie Reyes with a car instead of a motorcycle got my engine running with excitement.

And last but not least, Madame Hydra. Also known as Aida. Aida was created by Fitz and she later turned the world upside down by creating a virtual reality called The Network. Season four turned out to be the strongest season to date with the acting of especially Mallory Jansen portraying Madame Hydra being the best part of the show.

Did  you watch the show? If yes, what do you think of it? Love it, hate it. Let us know in the comments!
