A Superman TV show in the works at the CW is the news I have been waiting for ever since Tyler Hoechlin guest starred on Supergirl. The Superman of the Arrowverse has managed to capture the essence of Superman. The best thing about him is that you can place him in almost any Superman era. From the 1950s to the present. He would fit in anywhere with the way he is written. On top of that, this Superman’s powers aren’t too much. He’s still invulnerable but not in a way that he is unbeatable. Or that he doesn’t get a beating. I have seen take a few beatings in the Arrowverse crossovers.
Superman and Lois on the CW
We met Superman in season 2 of the TV show Supergirl. And Lois was only mentioned a few times. But I was happy when Lois actually showed up. I had a bunch of names in mind at the time like Riley Voelkl or McKenna Melvin but never would have thought about Elizabeth Tulloch. Tulloch was cast as Lois Lane and made her first appearance on the Arrowverse crossover Elseworlds. She was as feisty as she was in the comics. And not the damsel in distress but someone who would fight back when needed and did her due journalistic dilligence.
All we need on the show is Lucy Lane. And yes, I know, Jenna Dewan played her on the first season of Supergirl, but we can recast that. I don’t see why not for a Superman and Lois TV series.
The Supermanfamily
I wish I had names for a recast but maybe you can help me out here? Maybe Peyton List can do it again? Let me know in the comments if you have any thoughts about a new Lucy Lane.
The cast that I definitely would love to see on the new TV series are as follows:
Perry White – He has been mentioned a few times on Supergirl when Superman guest starred. The last Perry White that I really liked was on the TV series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. Instead of great Ceasar’s ghost, they changed that to Great Shades of Elvis. As a way to accommodate the accent and background of the actor that played him, the late Lane Smith.
Dirk Armstrong – The current political climate would fit right in. Dirk is a right wing editorialist who depicts Superman as a menace and Lex Luthor as a misunderstood genius. But let’s hope that Superman doesn’t have the same political tones as Supergirl has sometimes altho in a slumbering way.
Chloe Sullivan – Her character started out in the TV show Smallville, she was specifically developed for that show but made her appearance in the comics as well later on. On Smallville she was the cousin of Lois Lane but who knows what she is this time. With a cousin like her, who needs Lucy Lane?
What other characters would you like to see on the new Superman show? Krypto the dog? And what do you make of the CW having so many DC superhero shows? Doesn’t it kind of feel like they are DC Comic TV now instead of their own streaming network DCUniverse? Let me know in the comics!
