All new, all different Green Arrow and the Canaries

The Green Arrow may have met his maker but The Green Arrow and the Canaries live on in an all new, all different TV show.

Arrow’s end

When it was announced that Arrow would come to an end, I was happy and sad at the same time. Happy because it was time to move on to bigger and better things. But sad because I had so much time invested in the TV show and specifically the Arrowverse. But considering the last couple of seasons were rehashed storylines and that lead Stephen Amell wasn’t really looking like he was still having fun with the show, it is best to put it to rest and enjoy the blu rays or the show on Netflix.

But much to my surprise the makers of the TV show had no intention of stopping Arrow. Instead they created a new TV show featuring the daughter of Oliver and Felicity, Mia. With both the Black Siren and The Black Canary, the cast of the new show was complete.

Green Arrow and the Canaries

Traveling to the future

In the backdoor pilot, that aired last week, Dinah Drake is now in the year 2040 and acts as chief of police but then Laurel Lance shows up on the scene and uses a gizmo invented by Cisco Ramone which was based on the telepathy of the Martian Manhunter. Yes, so complicated, I agree. Why not just call it: A rememberer. Or whatever. Especially with Cisco’s knack for cool codenames, it could have been something amazing.

In the future Mia Queen leads a socialite life off and just graduated and is even about to get married when Laurel and Dinah show up. Both traveled to the future to prevent a disaster from happening and they need Mia but no the socialite version of her. So out comes the gizmo based on the telepathy of the Martian Manhunter and then adapted by Cisco to make Mia remember the bow and arrow lessons of daddy dear Oliver Queen.

She can’t believe what happened and wants to run off until but Laurel stops her saying that she has to rescue her friend or the future will become the future filled with anarchy as it was predicted. So with great reluctance Mia dons her Arrow outfit and shows that she’s not a force to be trifled with. With the support of the two Canaries , which really looked great with the both of them using their canary cry, they take down the baddies real quick and rescue Mia’s friend. But have they saved the future? We will find out in fall.

My thoughts abut the show

While I like the basic premise of the show, I am not sure if Katherine McNamara has enough power to carry the show on her actress shoulders. The support cast seems to be in place with a new Deathstroke and even William, Mia’s brother is around.

The disadvantage of having a show set in the same universe but in the future is that you can barely reference the past without messing up the storylines in shows like that of The Flash, Supergirl or Black Lightning that are set in current day. Any reference means either a character development or establish an event and both are spoilers.

But at least we have backstories on all three lead characters. Laurel’s is well established and so is Dinahs. Leaves Mia, who’s character development still needs a lot of work.

Another concern is that they will rehash some of the old Arrow storylines, these are pretty much the same showrunners of the Arrow TV show, if that is indeed the case then what is the point of having this show? If they are creative enough they can have Mia become a hero in her own right instead of just being an Oliver 2.0. We have seen plenty of Oliver 1.0 already.

Will I watch the show? I will watch the first three episodes. In three episodes you will have an idea of what the writers want and where they are heading. If it is interesting enough, I’ll keep watching. If not, then I suppose The Flash will be my only show.

Have you watched the show? What did you think of it? And what would you call Cisco’s tech gizmo?
