Hawaii 5-0 is ending! After 10 seasons the show revolving Steve McGarret and Danny Williams and their elite team of police officers will go out with a bang on April 3rd, 2020.

I am going to miss the show and seriously guys, I have watched ALL of the 240 episodes that have aired or will have aired by the time the show ends. I always watched the show during my breakfasts on Saturday. Or when I got home after the nightshift. You’d watch Five-0 to start your day or to relax after a hard day’s work.

Hawaii Five-0

The show is an action police procedural TV show and first aired in 2010. The show is a reimagining of the 1960s TV series that lasted from 1968 until 1980. The team of elite police officers is led by Steve McGarret, played by Alex O’Loughlin and Danny Williams, played by Scott Caan.

In the first seven seasons their team is supported by Kono Kalakaua and her cousin Chin Ho Kelly. But Grace Park and Daniel Dae Kim left the series after a dispute over salary. And I don’t blame them. They deserved more money. They were like equals on screen with Steve and Danny.

After 10 seasons…

After long deliberation and crazy idea’s being thought up like Danny Williams getting a new partner on the show. But everyone decided it was time to call it a day. O’Loughlin suffered a severe back injury on the show in early seasons but throughout the years he followed stemcell therapy and it was bearable. However, rumor has it that he just couldn’t do it anymore. Which could be another reason for ending the show.

“This show has been pretty much every waking moment for the last 10 years of my life,” said O’Loughlin. “Everywhere I go on this planet, in every language, I am McGarrett to all these people. What we’ve done, what we’ve accomplished, it’s extraordinary. I can’t really put words to express my level of gratitude. I’m just glad to have been a part of this, a part of history and I’m going to miss it. And to the fans, I don’t know how to thank you guys. Thank you for following us the way you have. I’m going to miss you. Aloha.”

The best episodes

There are a lot of great episodes throughout the 10 year run of Hawaii 5 0. One of my favorites however is the episode where Jack Lord, who played the original Steve McGarret in the 1960s TV series, was CGI-ed into the show. It was very emotional and just amazing!

Ofcourse the episodes revolving McGarret’s mom, who turned out to be an undercover agent for the CIA, were amazing. She went out with a bang after being corrupted for being undercover for so long and never felt that appreciation from the CIA. She was stabbed to death and passed away in the 10th season but any episode with her in it were tense because Steve and his mom were often at odds and ofcourse his mom’s shady business with the CIA didn’t help much either.

Ofcourse for Danny Williams life’s not always amazing either on the show. He transferred from New Jersey and had trouble acclimatizing to the Hawaiian lifestyle.

But the two of them had chemistry all throughout the show. I mean stuff like Steve always driving even though it’s Danny’s car. And when Steve is driving his own car, Danny’s nowhere to be found!

Again, I will miss the show but I think the cast and creators are right: now is the right time to end the show. Peter Lenkov, the show’s developer, had the following to say:

Hawaii Five-0 has been such a blessing to me and all of the people who have worked on this incredible show,” said Peter Lenkov. “I truly learned the meaning of ‘ohana’ as the viewers embraced us and the people of Hawaii welcomed us with the privilege to film on their shores. I am forever indebted to the creative genius that was Leonard Freeman who gave us such a beautiful story to begin with. And my eternal gratitude to our cast, led by our hero Alex O’Loughlin, the writers, the production team, our CBS ohana, and most importantly – YOU, the fans, who allowed us to come to work with pride and made our series such a success. Mahalo.”

I guess I’ll just have to find myself a new show to have relax with after a long day’s work or to wake up and have breakfast with.
