While I am currently staying at home due to unforeseen circumstances, I have decided to binge everything I could find on Netflix. And that is a lot folks. And while I was in there, I suddenly got the message that, and I got really teary eyed, I had reached the end of Netflix.
That was my proud Tweet at the time. But now what? Well thinking about it, I guess having finished Netflix, I am some kind of expert on what show to watch while you are at home.
Better Call Saul on Netflix
If you are like me and loved Breaking Bad then this is the show for you. It features one of the best breakout characters in a crimeshow in ages: Saul Goodman. But before he was Saul Goodman he was Jimmy McGill, lowlife hustler living in the shadow of his big brother Charles “Chuck” McGill.
Saul tries to work his way up from the mailroom to becoming a fulltime lawyer at the lawfirm Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill. But is frustrated on numerous occassions by his brother who doesn’t like Saul. While Mike Ehrmantraut is working security at the court parkinglot and is eventually recruited by a drugdealer named Nacho who is Tuco’s cousin. Tuco is the main antonogist in Breaking Bad seasons 1 and 2. We also witness how Hector Salamca ends up in a wheelchair with his iconic bell. Oh and the rise of Gustavo Fring is part of the show too. All in all , it’s worth watching the show guys! Every Tuesday on Netflix.

Locke and Key
Locke & Key is a TV show based on the comics by Joe Hill featuring art of Gabriel Rodriguez. Fun fact: Joe Hill is the son of legend Stephen King.
While the show has changed some essential parts of the comicbook, for instance dialing back on the horror elements and using some of the Hollywood creativity, the essence of the story still stands: an invigorating story about three kids who find keys with magical powers once owned by their ancestors. While they explore what the keys are for a demonic presence awakens and wants to have the keys at any cost.
The show has interesting takes on paranormal experiences and learning how to deal with loss and moving. They moved to their new house after their dad got shot. All in all, the TV show is just amazing and it is a must see!
And the best part is that Locke & Key just got renewed for a second season:
“We are thrilled to be continuing the journey of Locke & Key alongside all of our amazing collaborators,” co-showrunners Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill said in a statement. “We are grateful to Netflix for all their support, especially at this difficult time, and look forward to bringing you the exciting next chapter of our story.”
Said Brian Wright, Netflix’s VP of Original Series, “Locke & Key captivated audiences around the world at every twist and turn. We are so proud to have been part of this show and can’t wait to see all that Carlton Cuse, Meredith Averill, and the entire creative team have in store for Season 2.”
Raising Dion
Raising Dion is about a woman named Nicole who is raising her son Dion after losing her husband Mark. However before Mark died he was exposed to a strange rain that changed his physiology and gave him superpowers. Along with Mark’s best friend Pat Rollins, Nicole and Dion try to pick up after Mark’s passing while Dion’s powers manifest. While Pat and Nicole try to keep that a secret, “The Crooked Man” is trying to find and kill Dion in order to absorb his powers.
This is a Netflix original series that has also been renewed for a second season. Said Alisha Wainwright, who plays Nicole “One of my favorite aspects of that is watching Dion watch his parents, I would love to be able to have them have that moment again, just for Dion’s sake, if and when a Season 2 comes along.”
Orange is the new Black – The ultimate Netflix Original
This is one of the most watched shows on Netflix, it was also one of the most anticipated ones. In seven seasons we get to know Piper Kerman who goes to jail for 15 months after being screwed over by her ex girlfriend for carrying drug money. The show consists of seven seasons and the themes are many. Through flashbacks character elements are established and more often than not, you start to doubt whether or not it is justified that some of these prisoners are rightfully jailed.
But also themes like corruption is shown in various ways, the effect of corporate funding cuts to increase profits, the privatization of a prison as a whole, the living conditions, guard brutality, racism and discrimination. You will feel sorry for these women, the guards and get more than annoyed by corporate greed. All in all, Orange is the new Black was a very progressive show breaking taboos and provoking the viewer to think about social themes.
