Obi-Wan Kenobi May the 4th Trailer Breakdown

Adrian by Adrian|

Today, May 4th of 2022, the final trailer for the Kenobi series has been released as part of the May the 4th Be With You Celebration. With only a few weeks until its release, this is the perfect way to start Star Wars Day!

I was expecting to see lots of new scenes but they used some from the previous trailer with a slightly different perspective. One part of me was really hoping to get my mind blown by something new, but I also appreciate the fact that they’re not revealing too much.

The surprise factor plays a heavy role in Star Wars storytelling and I’m sure the wait will be worth it. We’re just a few weeks away so it’s no big deal.

I wrote an analysis of the previous Kenobi trailer as well. It breaks down every scene and its possible implications. I’d like to recommend that you read it (in case you haven’t) before continuing with this article, as it might help you understand what’s happening and who are the characters on screen. To avoid being too repetitive, I’ll only talk about what I find most interesting in this new trailer.

From the previous trailer, we already knew the Inquisitors were on Tatooine. But having the Grand Inquisitor plus the other two inquisitors joining him really speaks of their desperation to find Kenobi.

After all, Obi-Wan Kenobi is the only Jedi who defeated Darth Vader, someone who they wouldn’t stand a chance against. He might be alone and under precarious circumstances, but Kenobi is still a fully-fledged Jedi Master and they will need every resource at their disposal to submit him.

-Leave us alone.
-When the time comes he must be trained.
-Like you trained his father?

This is the exchange of words Luke’s uncle Owen and Obi-Wan have. This might sound something very rude to say, but nobody can’t blame him. The last time Obi-Wan trained a Skywalker to become a Jedi, the faith of the galaxy changed forever.

Luke has been under his care since he was just a baby, there’s no way he’ll ever agree of sending his nephew to a path that may lead to the same place Anakin went.

Reva, who has just been confirmed to be the Third Sister, arrives at the Fortress Inquisitorius, where she meets with the other inquisitors.

Seconds later, three of them go out in some sort of space pod and split into different directions. My guess is that they’re splitting to cover more territories.

“I want every low-life and bounty hunter to squeeze him” The Empire will use every resource to find him. No matter the cost, time, or manpower that it requires if it means capturing the biggest threat to the Galactic Empire.

This droid appears to be 4-LOM, one of the top bounty hunters at the time. If you think his “face” is familiar but can’t remember why; he was one of the bounty hunters Darth Vader tasked with capturing Han Solo on Empire Strikes Back. Will we see any other notorious bounty hunters?

Back at the Fortress of the Inquisitorius (or at least it appears so), everyone is getting ready to engage in battle. Reva, The Third sister has ignited her lightsaber and walks with two Purge Troopers by her side.

Even though they resemble Inferno Squad, the red pauldron on their right shoulder is what gives it away. This is the first time we’re seeing Purge Troopers on a live-action project and I’m so excited to see what they are capable of.

“You can’t win Obi-Wan. You can’t escape him!” The inevitable confrontation between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader is teased. There is no secret that they will face once again, but I’m curious to see how they developed Darth Vader.

From his birth as a Sith Lord until his betraying of Emperor Palpatine, a small amount of doubt has always been present in his mind. Will we see some of it in this series? Or will we experience a darker version of Vader that has only been portrayed in books and comics?

And, I know you are curious what the Auerbach reads on that shot I used for a Featured image!

From top to bottom and left to right it reads:

TRANSMITTING

BOUNTY
OBI-WAN KENOBI

OFFENSES
HIGH TREASON

BOUNTY
UPON CAPTURE

What do you expect from this series? Do you have any hot takes about it? Let us know your predictions!

And in case you have missed it, here is the trailer itself!
