Star Wars Celebration’s first day has wrapped up. The highlight of the day is that we finally got an update on The Mandalorian Season 3 and some unexpected surprises.
Here’s what you need to know about the next season of The Mandalorian and also some unexpected surprises of the day, good ones and not so much.
The Mandalorian Season 3
Our favorite unconventional duo will finally return. Din Djarin and Grogu have been through a lot, kidnapping, bounty hunters, savage creatures, and endless encounters with the Empire, they survived all of it and will continue their story on February 2023.
A small teaser was released exclusively for attendants of Star Wars Celebration but we still got some info through social media. Here are some of the key moments.
“You have removed your helmet. What’s worse, did so of your own free will. You’re no longer Mandalorian. Redemption is no longer possible since the destruction of our homeworld” These are the words spoken by The Armorer.
Sooner or later, the violation of this sacred rule would catch up to him. As her words are heard, we see Din Djarin and Grogu travel on the modified N-1 Starfighter.
In the next scene, Bo-Katan is now sitting on a throne, but something’s not right, the look in her eyes is different. We know not only of her desire to acquire the Darksaber, but all of the pain and suffering she has endured throughout the years.
“Your cult gave up on Mandalore long before The Purge. Where were you then?” Might she be blaming him for not being there for their people? I don’t know what to make of this question. We’ll have to wait to actually know what she means.
After that, we see a group of Kowakian monkey-lizards staring at Grogu. A little fun moment before Greef Karga appears wearing a cape that looks very elegant. I’m guessing that he’s now more just than just an administrator. Din definitely found a valuable ally in him.
Very quick shots of characters like Carson Teva and Peli Motto. I’m very happy to see that she’s back, I love her sassiness.
“I’m going to Mandalore, so that I may be forgiven for my transgressions” This basically confirms that a good part of the story will take part in what’s left of Mandalore.
This iconic planet is extremely important not only to the current storyline but since the Old Republic era. Mandalorians built one of the most powerful empires in the galaxy and very few were able to contest them in battle. I hope we learn more about their legacy in this new season.
Almost at the end, a series of shots of what appears to be Mandalorians engaging in battle. Does the conflict take place in Mandalore? If it does, who else would be interested in this planet? I can only think of another Mandalorian clan that still wants to recover and rule their homeworld.
If this happens to be true. Which other group do you think of? Could it be the Wren clan? We know Sabine is going to appear in the Ahsoka series so this could be the perfect time to introduce her in a live-action series.
In the final shot, Bo Katan tells Grogu “Did you think your dad was the only Mandalorian?” I don’t know about you, but I get some menacing vibes from her. Let’s not forget that she still needs the Darksaber to rule Mandalore, and the only way of acquiring it in an “honorable” way is by winning it in battle.
After everything she’s been through, I really doubt she’s going to say “Oh, I changed my mind. I don’t wanna rule Mandalore anymore, Grogu is just too cute”. She has helped Din in many ways, but she’s no stranger to getting her hands dirty.
Being so close to her goal I really think she’s going to become an antagonist in the next season. I’m just guessing but she might receive the “Daenerys treatment”. However, railers can easily deceive the audience so I’m hoping this isn’t the case. I really want to see her and Din Djarin fighting side by side.
A non-streamed event?
I can’t think of any reason for this, but the main panel wasn’t streamed. Only people who attended were able to experience it live, I think this was a slap in the face for all fans who have supported Disney and Lucasfilm, especially over the past 2 years. The only way to know what was happening was through social media, I’m still pissed about it. After that small rant, let’s get into the important stuff.
This is where the fun begins
An entire choir performed Duel of the Fates, I got goosebumps when I heard it. After they finished, Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen came out. “Hello there” came out of Ewan’s mouth and everyone lost their minds, it was such a funny moment.
John Williams directed an entire Orchestra to perform the Obi-Wan Kenobi theme for the first time. They also played The Imperial March and the Indiana Jones theme.
Harrison Ford showed up to announce his affection and gratitude towards Williams’ music and as a person. A fifth Indiana Jones film was announced, and a single image was shown to the audience.
New series starring Jude Law
We got very little info about this one. The story will be about a group of kids that get lost in space. It will take place in the same time period as The Mandalorian and Ahsoka series. Despite having kids as some of the main characters, Dave Filoni said that this isn’t targeted at kids. Filoni compared its tone to The Clone Wars, which I think is a very good thing.
Despite being an animated show, The Clone Wars have a good amount of dark, sad, and even cruel moments. I’m intrigued about what this show is going to be and if/how it connects to the other shows.
This show’s official name is Skeleton Crew and it will be directed by Jon Watts.
Ahsoka Series update
Ahsoka has been a part of Star Wars since the debut of the Clone Wars animated show in 2008. She was introduced to the show as the Padawan of Anakin Skywalker, an odd idea at the time, but it actually turned out great. It wouldn’t take long before their chemistry became undeniable, I’d dare to compare it with Obi-Wan and Anakin’s apprentice-master relationship.
It has been officially confirmed that the Ahsoka series will debut in 2023. We also got the official logo, which looks exactly like the World Between Worlds, a different dimension of the Force that connects space and time. Future events and voices from the past echo in this strange place.
Ahsoka will continue the search for Ezra Bridger, a fellow Jedi and friend of her who disappeared after the final battle for Lothal against the Galactic Empire.
I’m a huge fan of Star Wars Rebels and I can’t wait to see how characters like Sabine Wren and Ezra are presented in this new series. Of course, Grand Admiral Thrawn will make his return, in my opinion, he’s the deadliest non-force user threat that the Rebellion ever faced, I can’t wait to see him in live-action!
