Two new books that are going to give us more insight into the story of Cal Kestis have just been revealed!
It’s fair to say that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has become one of the most popular Star Wars games since its release, at least among the ones released after 2015. It might not be a masterpiece but it’s still a good game with fun gameplay, an interesting story, and relatable characters.
Despite the fact that at the end of the game, it’s clear that there’s a task for Cal and the rest of his crew, I wasn’t sure about it getting a sequel. It wouldn’t be the first time that the possibility of a sequel to a well-received game would be discarded.
In 2022, two big products related to Jedi: Fallen Order were released; the Cal Kestis Legacy Lightsaber that’s being sold at Disney Parks and the BD-1 LEGO set. I was very surprised when both of them were announced, I’m sure I wasn’t the only one. Don’t get me wrong, I love them, but I thought they were just more products that Disney would use to get our money.
But earlier this year, the trailer for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was shown to the public, and everyone who played the game was super excited for a sequel game. The trailer was very cool but vague and not many details were given. I believed that the next time we were going to hear about it would be close to its release date but I’m glad to say that I was wrong.
It’s now clear that Disney and Lucasfilm are invested in Cal Kestis’ story and those are wonderful news. As most of you, probably know, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is the sequel to the acclaimed Jedi: Fallen Order, the action-adventure game that takes us on a new epic adventure from the perspective of Cal Kestis, a young Jedi that survived Order 66.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor it’s going to take place five years after the events of Fallen Order so there’s no doubt that Cal is going to be a more developed character. More planets to explore, new enemies, and difficult choices await the young Jedi in this new adventure.
Time skips in Star Wars usually leave many details in the dark but this time it appears that they’re addressing that “issue” immediately with a new book. Jedi: Battle Scars by Sam Maggs and published by Del Rey is set to release on March 7th, 2023.
Jedi: Battle Scars has been announced as a tie-in novel between Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor. We don’t know the details about what happened with Cere Junda, Greez Dritus, or Nightsister Merrin in those five years but from this tweet, we can assume that the team is still together and the events of this book will probably give us a lot of context for the game, maybe it’ll even introduce a couple of new characters.

But that’s not all, The Art of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, published by Dark Horse has also been announced. This book will relate the development and creative process of the game, and lots of concept art and commentaries from the artists will be featured in it.
This book is pretty important so you can expect it to have a full-color hardcover. The covers for both books are yet to be released.
It is set to release on May 2nd, 2023, less than two months after Star Wars Jedi: Battle Scars. There are unconfirmed rumors that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will release between March and May, considering the dates of these two new books I think it’s pretty safe to assume that Jedi: Survivor might be available between March 7th and May 2nd of 2023.
