The latest announcement of new Star Wars books and new covers for upcoming titles predicts a busy 2023 for fans of Star Wars novels, comics, and literature overall!
With the Kenobi and Andor series, books and comics have been under the radar for most fans, it is understandable, but we shall not forget that written stories are as good and as important as the series, which is why I’m very excited about these new announcements and cover reveals.
Inquisitor: Rise of the Red Blade
One of the most interesting announcements, Inquisitor: Rise of the Red Blade tells the story of Iskat, a former Jedi that survived Order 66 and turned to the dark side. She joins the other Inquisitors with the primary objective of uncovering something about their past that the Jedi Order refused to tell her.
The Inquisitors are some of the most intriguing characters, despite being around for a good number of years already, not much is known about them except for the fact that all of them were Jedi. The Grand Inquisitor and the Second Sister are probably the ones we have more information about, but the majority of them remain a mystery. Perhaps with this book, we’ll learn more about some of them.
Inquisitor: Rise of the Red Blade was written by Delilah S. Dawson, the author of Star Wars: Phasma. Penguin Random House is the publisher, this book is set to be released on July 18th, 2023.
Sana Starros gets her own Marvel mini-series
Where Sana Starros is, trouble will follow, being born on Nar Shaddaa meant that Sana acquired multiple skills that most would consider problematic. She has been involved with Dr. Aphra, Han Solo, and Lando Calrissian.
Sana Starros has been around since 2015 but just as a secondary character, which is why it’s big news that she’s getting her first solo comic in February 2023.
Starros is bold, impulsive, and someone you don’t want to play Sabaac with. I’m sure she’s going to be a fine addition to the roster of rogues in Star Wars.
Star Wars: Cataclysm (The High Republic) cover reveal
The cover for Star Wars: Cataclysm by Lydia Kang is one of the covers that were revealed. This novel is part of Phase II of the High Republic multimedia project, it is scheduled to release on April 2023.
We don’t know what this story is going to be about but this cover has something that I find curious. There are very few individuals that I remember that carry both a blaster and a lightsaber, when this has happened it’s because said people discover that they’re force-sensitive many years after their childhood has ended.
Two very good examples of this are Kyle Katarn and Luke Skywalker. Of course, the High Republic is very different from the Galactic Civil War era, and this theory might be incorrect. But, I think it’s fun to try to guess something about the story from the little things that are revealed.
Star Wars: Path of Vengeance (The High Republic) cover reveal
Path of Vengeance is another High Republic novel, written by Cavan Scott, it is scheduled to be published on May 2023, as part of Phase II.
This cover is very dark, two Jedi and a woman are entering what appears to be a cave near the top of a mountain. What’s sinister about it is the strange diagram on the floor, it was made with a purpose and I doubt it’s a good one.
What makes it even worse is the fact that some strange insectoid figures crawl the wall of the cave, it looks like they’re avoiding the light from the outside. These creatures already make me want to read the book, I wonder if they’re guarding this place or perhaps they were created there.
Star Wars: Quest for Planet X (The High Republic) cover reveal
Quest for Planet X by Tessa Gratton is a Junior Novel, like the other two, it’s part of Phase II of the High Republic and it’s scheduled to be released on April 2023.
Being a Junior Novel means that it’s mainly targeted toward kids and teenagers. The cover reflects this by showing three youngsters watching a holoprojector. Their faces reveal excitement and desire for adventure.
There are more books, comics and novels yet to be announced but it looks like 2023 is going to be full of good Star Wars stories. Which one are you most excited about? Personally, I really want to learn more about the Inquisitors and their stories.
