What is Knighthood in Gotham Knights
When you first play the game, you see 3 skill trees for each of your heroes. And then there is a 4th one, which is locked but you can see the name of it: Knighthood. It is a tree that harbors an extra set of skills that you can unlock if you complete several missions.
The next segment of the guide will detail each step you have to take in order to unlock your Knighthood for your first character as well as all the rest. This is done in three major steps.
How to unlock your Knighthood: The Challenges
To unlock your Knighthood in Gotham Knights you have to complete a number of challenges. The missions range from interrogating criminals to doing advanced training and defeating 3 mini-bosses that can be found all over Gotham. Look at it like it is a rite of passage, or an attunement to show that you are worthy of Knighthood.
The first thing is the easiest one. Go to the Belfry and look for the training dummy. Select “Advanced Training” and there are 3 challenges that you will need to complete in order to complete your journey:
- Perfect Evade and Perfect Strike
- Timed Strikes
- Evading Enemy Attack Chains
Perfect Evade and Perfect Strike
Performing a Perfect Evade gives you the opportunity to follow up with a powerful Perfect Attack counter. Wait until the right moment and Tap your counter button to Perfect Evade then strike an enemy to perform a Perfect Attack.
The perfect moment to evade is when you see the fist of your opponent light up with a sphere that spikes around it. When you see that appear then it is time to hit your evade button.
Once you have successfully evaded the attack of your opponent it is time to hit strike as fast as you can so you will counter the attack of your opponent by striking him hard.
These moves, Perfect Evade, and Perfect Strikes have saved my life so many times in-game. So you would do well to practice that. It’s a true lifesaver.
Timed Strikes
Timed Strike uses a ranged attack in the case of Red Hood. As the attack i about to hit an enemy, tap Q to perform a Timed Strike, dealing multiple shots for increased damage and building up Momentum.
This one is pretty tricky, especially when you have multiple enemies incoming from all sides. You are too busy evading them while focussing on one. This is why I deem Perfect Evade and Perfect Strike far more important than Timed Strike.
Evading Enemy Attack Chains
When an enemy performs an Attack Chain, tap your evade button to dodge their final strike and perform a Perfect Evade. This also leaves the enemy open to a Perfect Attack.
This is another very useful move to master. Especially on the mini-bosses who can hit very hard and often enough have a shield that you can barely break through. The other mini-bosses are also hard but the shielded ones are nearly invulnerable and knowing how to evade the chain and counter it at the last second is another lifesaver. Very useful to master.
Once you have done all that, you have finished step 1 on the road of Knighthood and it is time for the next step.
How to unlock your Knighthood: One Step Ahead
The mission “One Step Ahead” requires you to be in the Belfry before you go out for patrol. Whenever you are in the Belfry, you get the pop-up that says: New premeditated crimes have been added to the map. A premeditated crime can be a lot of things. There are different icons with different meanings.
Sometimes it’s a crime in progress that you have to stop like a bank robbery or you enter a crime scene where you have to pick up the clues by collecting technical evidence. Other crimes involve releasing hostages and taking down a whole community of Freaks.
You need 10 of them in order to unlock Knighthood. It is no easy feat and it sometimes is a bit of a grind.
The red with white icons indicate that there is a Premeditated Crime happening. Get there as soon as you can!
How to unlock your Knighthood: Against All Odds
The mission called Against All Odds is where you will have to defeat 3 mini-bosses anywhere in Gotham.
There are shielded ones, there are ones with a ball and chain of fire and there are the ones that will electrocute you or the ones who carry a shield and hit you with it.
Once you have done that, head back to the Belfry.
Unlocking Knighthood for the first time
If you have followed all the steps described above, you should see your character’s unique icon hovering over Batman’s shrine. Click it and watch the beautiful cut scene.
In my case, it was Barbara Gordon, who figured out how to make her cape glide. It was a beautiful milestone in my character’s story.
Knighthood Ability Tree
Knighthood Abilities are now available in the Ability Tree. These Ultrapowerful combat techniques are unique to each member of the Batman Family. Explore the Ability Tree to see unlocked and available Knighthood Abilities.
Now for the difficult part. Once you have unlocked Knighthood and gazed over all abilities of your character, you have to do it all over for the other 3 characters. The Premeditated Crimes are a grind and you don’t want to burn out on the game but enjoy it rather.
Here is some advice if you start playing Gotham Knights:
Try out all of the characters. The action points that you earn go to all in your party.
Your entourage levels with you even if they rarely leave the Belfry. For instance, I leveled Batgirl and she is my main character. I have leveled her up to level 20. If I swap to Robin, then I’d have 20 points on Robin that I can assign as I see fit.
The only thing you can’t unlock is the Knighthood tree. That’s something you really need to do on the character.
The last thing you would want is to pick the character whose fighting style doesn’t suit you at all but you are stuck with it because that character has Knighthood unlocked.

The importance of unlocking the Knighthood tree
The Knighthood tree is essential so you need to unlock it as soon as possible. The tree has so many powerful abilities for your character that you will need in order to progress. For instance, a fight against Harley Quinn or versus Mr. Freeze can’t be won without you having your Knighthood Abilities.
Like I said before, it can be a grind to open that Knighthood Ability tree, but it pays off big time. So right off the start, go out on patrol. Go back to the Belfry, go to the Batman shrine and click that icon to start the mission, and do all the things you need to do to unlock it.
Not only is it essential to unlock the Knighthood Tree, it also adds a lot more depth to your character. It offers more immersion with your character as you fight your way through the side missions and main story. The uniqueness of each character’s own Knighthood Tree plus their unique of traveling after you unlock the tree. For instance, Batgirl glides and Robin teleports. Red Hood uses a mystical portal to travel and Nightwing uses his acrobatics.
As I said, it all makes for a better immersion with the character you play with. So next to it being essential for progress, it is also a lot of fun.
