Gotham Knights Rumble in the Reservoir Mission Guide and how to defeat Clayface

Manfred by Manfred|

Guide to lead you through the mission Rumble in the Reservoir. It also holds answers to puzzles and strategies on how to defeat Clayface!

There is Rumble in the Reservoir which can only mean that Clayface is back in Gotham. And he is blaming Batman for his unfortunate falling apart. He is looking to take over the Gotham water supply to have his revenge after all these years of having been torn apart and spread all over Gotham. It’s up to the Gotham Knights to prevent him from succeeding.

Start at the Belfry

The piece of clay that is a part of Clayface is moving all by itself on the sink. Jason Todd notices it but is ignored by the other members of the Gotham Knights. The canister breaks and the piece of clay escapes into the sewer.

The Gotham Knights check the Batcomputer and see that the same kind of activity is happening all over Gotham City and it is all moving to one point: The reservoir building.

It looks like Clayface finally has gathered the strength to pull himself together after Batman left him in pieces so many years ago.

How to start Rumble in the Reservoir

The game will take you to the reservoir first where you will have a chat with Renee Montoya. She will inform you that she will delay the Gotham City Police Department (GCPD) as much as she can so the Gotham Knights can do their thing; which is kick names and take ass.

Upon entry into the reservoir, you will see Clayface’s pieces trying to assemble themselves into Clayface. And this is where the fight starts.

The cutscene is quite long. It takes about 2 minutes so sit back and enjoy the show. There is definitely Rumble in the Reservoir.

There are in total 3 areas that you will need to overcome in the fight versus and we start off on the first floor.

As you come off the cutscene you will be put on a floor pitting you against Clayface. Use your AR Scanner and look for ways the environment can help you defeat Clayface.

If you see it well, then you should see 4 wheels that control the pumps of the facility but they are not working at that moment. So you will need to activate them.

Rumble in the reservoir

Use your AR Scanner once more while you look up and you should see 4 control panels that light up in purple after the scan. The control panels can enable the pumps. And you need to activate the pumps but not at the same time.

Go up, and activate 1 pump. But weary, Clayface will follow you and try and prevent you from activating. He will try and spike you while you hit the control panel.

Click one, activate it, and then head back down as the fight takes place downstairs. Lure Clayface to the pump and stand in front of it. Stand on the yellow markers that are on the floor.

If you ever needed Perfect Evade, it’s now. Clayface will try and beat you with his fist but instead will hit the pump and he will be down for a few seconds. Hit him as best you can.

The mechanics that Clayface uses in the first phase are a force to be reckoned with. For instance: Clayface can mold his arm into a big fist and slam you with it.\

He can also extend his arm and swipe you with it. He can do a full-body smash. And on top of that, if you come too near to hit him, he will use his clay to come up from under the grates and increases the density of it so they look like spikes.

Whatever character you are using at that moment, use your Momentum abilities and do not hold back. You will do this 4 times in total. At the end of that Clayface will grab a sewage pipe and smash it on the ground and you will fall very hard on the floor.

Don’t think you’ve won just yet. This was only the first part. The Rumble in the Reservoir is not yet over. It’s only just beginning.

How to reach the Smelting Factory

The goal of the mission is to get Clayface to the Smelting Factory of the Gotham Reservoir. After the first phase, you will come to the conclusion that Clayface has absorbed a lot of water so moving him to the Smelting Factory will vaporize at least some of the water making Clayface a bit more vulnerable and slower because there are fewer fluids. It will also make him a bit harder, rocky almost so he can hit harder and he will.

There is a mission for an obstacle course for the Batcycle and I hope you took it because the next obstacle course through the sewer pipes of Gotham is no joke. It is a huge maze, however pretty straightforward, and you will go through it at 135km/h (90 miles per hour). At least it felt that way.

The sewer pipes are filled with traps and even though it looks easy, if you are going at high speed and filled with traps, let’s put it this way: It’s not Six Flags. Instead, the sewer has so many traps that you will be lucky to even be alive at the end of it.

Rumble in the reservoir

With Clayface on your heels, the first traps will be right up: Clay spikes coming from grates and clay coming from the walls above in order to stop you from going too fast.

If you go too slow, Clayface will swallow you whole. He will try and frustrate you at every turn. If you think that that is the Rumble in the reservoir then you are in for more fun in the final fight between you and Clayface.

How to defeat Clayface in Rumble in the Reservoir

There is a light, or fire, at the end of the tunnel. When you crash your Batcycle into the Smelting Factory, Clayface will go full body at full speed right into the heat pipes, vaporizing most of the water he absorbed earlier at the end of phase one of the fight.

You have reached the final phase of the fight versus Clayface. The fight will take place in a much darker area than before. The place is surrounded by molten lava and you but that’s of no real concern.

Rumble in the reservoir

Clayface has lost most of his water and is now a bit rockier and thus he hits harder. Much harder than in the first phase really. In this phase, you won’t have any environmental aids to help you.

There are no pumps like in the first phase. Nor barrels or panels that you can electrocute Clayface with. This really has become a rumble in the reservoir.

I recommend you have your Knighthood skill tree unlocked. The Knighthood Tree comes with a special ability that is like Batgirl’s drone.

Not only does it shoot the enemy, but it will also heal you if you take damage for a short period of time. And you will need that any health points in this particular phase.

Rumble in the reservoir

Don’t use too many medpacs in the first phase or in the second phase. You will need as many as you can carry. If you go in with less than 5 medpacs then it’s going to be a very hard fight and unless you are playing with Batgirl and are specced into Second Wind and Second Wind Plus giving you revival options, then it’s pretty much a no-go I found.

The mechanics are the same as in the first phase but with subtle differences. Instead of the spikes only being around Clayface, the spikes will follow you in whatever direction you go causing moderate damage if you get hit.

The arm extension, hits even harder so if you ever needed that Advanced training over at the Belfry with the Perfect Evade, it is now.

Rumble in the reservoir

The full-body slam is easily dodged. And every time Clayface uses that slam, he will be down for a few seconds, giving you a window of opportunity to strike.

Hit him as much as you can to build up Momentum stacks and use them for your hardest hits in the next following rounds.

After that it’s rinse-repeat. Dodge the slams evade the spikes and strike. Use your Knighthood abilities when you are low on health, even with the 6-minute cooldown, it’s worth using whenever it comes off cooldown. Yes, you read that right. The fight lasts longer than 6 minutes so you can use it maybe twice.

And don’t forget: you have unlimited ranged abilities. So you can keep throwing your Batarangs while you keep your distance between the slams and evade the spikes.

Clayface is most sensitive to fire, go prepared and equip your ranged or melee abilities with Incinerator mods.

Once Clayface is defeated, you will have a nice conversation with GCPD’s Renee Montoya who thanks you for the help to end the rumble in the reservoir.
