This guide will tell you how to plant and launch the distress beacon in Chapter 7 of the Dead Space remake!
This guide is for the Dead Space Remake, released in 2023!
After you find the Mining Access Key and get Clearance Level 3, Isaac will need to find a way to launch a distress beacon. Unfortunately, the launch tube was malfunctioning so Isaac engineered a plan to launch the distress beacon. To do this, he’ll need to place the beacon on an asteroid that mining was processing.
How to get to the Mining Bay
In order to get to the mining bay to start this puzzle, you’ll need to pull out the battery you used to get to the control room. Bring it with you as you’ll need it for another elevator that grants access to the mining bay.
Be careful as when you plant the battery into the Mining Bay elevator slot, a necromorph will pop out to your right.
How to destroy the Gravity Tethers
Before you can chuck this rock out into space, you’ll need to destroy the 4 Gravity Tethers holding it in place. Two of these can be found inside the Mining Bay while the other two are outside. Start by destroying the Gravity Tether on the ground level inside.
The Gravity Tethers spin rapidly exposing glowing power junctions every so often. Use Stasis on the Gravity Tether to slow it down and shoot at one of these glowing junctions. If you need some more Stasis charge, there’s a recharge port on the walls nearby.
Once you do this some Leaper necromorphs will attack you. Defeat them and use Zero-G to fly upwards to destroy the second Gravity Tether.
As a note, do not fly into the structure below. You will have to restart the puzzle.
Now to get outside, you’ll see a large boulder being carved by a machine. You’ll need to fly past this to get outside though this is a dangerous task. Get close to one of the corners where the machine’s parts pause for a moment. When it starts to move again immediately move past the asteroid otherwise you’ll be killed by the machinery.
When you’re outside, destroy the two Gravity Tethers in the same method you used before. They’ll be on opposite ends of one another flanking the asteroid. When you destroy these Gravity Tethers, Lurker necromorphs will appear that you’ll also need to defeat.
Air and Stasis refills can be found on the metal paneling near the Gravity Tethers if you need them.
How to plant and launch the Distress Beacon
After you destroy all the Gravity Tethers, your next goal is to fly over to the asteroid and plant the Distress Beacon. This is very easy in that you just pick a spot to plant it and activate the beacon. Now you’ll need to head back inside and make your way back to the control room.
When you go up the Mining Bay elevator, you’re going to need that battery again. However, the road back has gotten dangerous as the halls now have large flames of jets firing intermittently. Feel free to use Kinesis to throw the battery into rooms further ahead so you can focus on getting past the fire.
Once you get through the fire, put that battery back where it was originally and make your way to the control room. From there you must interact with the console to launch the beacon! But don’t get too comfortable yet as things are about to get even more heated!
That’s it for this guide! Remember to cool off and stay hydrated so you don’t overheat! If you need more help, check out the full Dead Space Remake Chapter 7 Walkthrough. The guide also includes all available side mission objectives.
