Tips for completing Achievements in Dead Space
In this section, I will cover some tips on how to complete the more difficult or more esoteric achievements you can get. Many of these are very easy to get and you’ll get without even trying such as the Chapter Progress levels.
The following segment contains spoilers for the Dead Space Remake. The nature of completing these achievements requires that I provide some spoilers in the tips so you can complete them. If you want to avoid spoilers, please do not read beyond this point.
Wishbone
The Wishbone achievement is tricky to get as you need to make a limb dangle off a necromorph in order to pull it off with Kinesis. This sounds easy but it’s quite difficult to pull off (pun intended). The best way to do this is to find a weak necromorph and get a Pulse Rifle. A non-upgraded Pulse Rifle works best here.
Find a Slasher and use Kinesis on it. Aim for a shoulder and fire one shot at a time to shoot the flesh off. If you get lucky, the arm will dangle on for a second by some flesh. Act quickly to pull off the limb before it falls off. If you do it right, you’ll pull off the limb and get the Wishbone Achievement!
Raise the Stakes
This one is very easy to do as all you need is a metal rod or a necromorph blade. In the Medical Bay, you can find these metal rods with glowing bits at the tips throughout. Grab one of these or an arm blade with Kinesis.
From there, just fire it at a necromorph near a wall. This won’t work against tough necromorphs who will instead fall over and get back up. Ideally this should be against a weak necromorph or a very injured one.
There’s Always Peng!
To unlock this achievement, you’ll need to find the Peng Treasure. The Peng Treasure can be found in Chapter 11 in the Cargo Bay. You’ll find it near the elevator that takes you down into the bay and behind a stack of boxes. Move these boxes with Kinesis to find the Peng Treasure and a corpse.
Front Toward Enemy
You’ll only have one chance to complete this achievement during Chapter 9. When you’re aboard the USM Valor, you’ll be able to find a shooting gallery room. Go inside and activate the minigame and proceed through the course. Necromorphs will crash the party and break the game, leaving you surrounded. Defeat the necromorph encounter to gain the achievement!
Z-Baller
At the beginning of Chapter 10, you can find a Z-Ball court where you can play Z-Ball. You need to come in here anyways to find a battery. There will also be two Lurkers around so you’ll need to get rid of them. Once the room is clear, play some Z-Ball!
The game is simple, just grab the ball with Kinesis and throw it into one of the colored rings. Go for a glowing ring if you can for more points. If you get enough points to pass level 6, you’ll unlock this achievement and get some goodies in the locker room just outside!
Marked
In order to get the Marked achievement, you’ll have to be in a New Game Plus session. You’ll need to find an artifact fragment and it’s easy to do early on. When you get the data board to repair the tram system in Chapter 1, a Marker Fragment sits on a bookshelf nearby. Shoot the books in the way so you can grab the fragment and get the achievement!
Reunion
In order to obtain the Reunion achievement, you’ll need to collect all 12 Marker Fragments found in a New Game Plus session. Once you have all 12, you’ll need to go to the Executive Quarters on the Crew Deck and look for the room with the table full of candles. Place the fragments in the candles then complete the rest of the game to get the alternate ending. Once you do, this achievement is yours!
Untouchable
You’ll need to complete the game on Impossible difficulty to get this achievement. Only the best of the best will complete this and you’ll need a good chunk of time to do so. It’s best to attempt this achievement when you have at least 8 hours of free time.
Play the game on a lower difficulty first in order to get familiar with the game and what to expect. The more you know the better your odds of survival. When you start your Impossible playthrough, only carry 2 weapons. I recommend the Plasma Cutter and Flamethrower.
The Plasma Cutter will be your primary weapon as it can handle everything very well when upgraded. Any power nodes should go to your plasma cutter and RIG suit only. Any extras can go into the flamethrower.
The flamethrower is for handling enemies that the plasma cutter can’t fight well such as Swarms and Dividers. Those little bits of damage add up if you’re not careful so using the flamethrower works best to keep you alive.
Since you only get one save point in an Impossible session, I would recommend saving inside the USM Valor at the start of Chapter 9. Things get very intense here and should you die, you can at least restart here as you’ll only have 4 chapters left to complete. Should you succeed, you’ll get the Untouchable Achievement!
Completing an Impossible playthrough also grants you the Burnished Suit and Hand Cannon! Yes the Hand Cannon from Dead Space 2 has returned and you can fight necromorphs with a foam finger while shouting “BANG!” and “Pew~”!
If you need help with the Basics of Dead Space, have difficulties solving a puzzle, defeat a boss encounter or find and pick up all Power Nodes and all Semiconductors, we’ve got what you are looking for!
