This character guide for Partitio serves to highlight his story and unique functions. It explains the actions unique to Agnea, including Path Actions and Abilities.

Octopath Traveler II Character - Partitio Partitio’s Path Actions

Path Actions are a system unique to Octopath Traveler, and in Octopath Traveler 2 all characters have two such actions they can take based on the time of day. These actions can accomplish various goals and can provide additional items or information about the world.

Path Actions are only available to the character that starts with this job, in this case, Partitio. They must be in your party to perform the Path Actions below.

Day Path Action: Purchase

Purchase allows Partitio to buy items from NPCs. The cost of purchasable items is determined purely by their value or relative power.

Partitio, The Merchant: Octopath Traveler 2 Character Guide - Day Path Action: Purchase

Purchase is considered a noble action, and only requires money. It cannot fail, as such it also cannot damage your reputation in a town.

Most items have fixed prices in the game, but you may find NPCs that can increase your chances of getting discounts when purchasing items. You can also Hire NPCs to gain similar effects though Partitio’s Business Partners Talent.

There are cases where some items cannot be stolen, or are harder to steal via Throné’s Steal Path Action and it may be easier or even required to use Partitio’s Purchase Path Action instead. While it may cost money, it comes with the benefit of not failing or damaging your reputation as Stealing can.

Night Path Action: Hire

Hire Allows you to pay an NPC to accompany you into battle. NPCs can range from being purely damaged to providing a variety of helpful effects in battle.

New to Octopath Traveler 2, when Partitio hires an NPC, they grant an additional Business Partner Effect. These effects are not related to combat, generally reducing the cost of purchasing items or increasing the sell value of items.

Hiring is considered a noble action. So long as you can afford the NPCs fee, they can be hired without chance of failure. This also means this action cannot damage your reputation.

This Path Action is determined by a price. You may come across NPCs that may reduce the cost of

Entreating can be a good substitute for the Scholar’s Mug action, which is the alternative Path Action that can acquire items at night. While this will not grant any form of experience, there will be some cases where it’s easier to Entreat an NPC, rather than Mug them.

Latent Power and Talent Explained

Each Traveler has one or more unique abilities specific to their class, as well as a Latent Power that they gain access to as the story progresses.

Talent: Business Partners

When Partito uses his Hire Path Action, the hired ally can provide additional effects. These effects aren’t typically battle-related, instead allowing Partitio to earn extra money from selling items, reducing the cost of his Purchase Path Action.

Some of these effects can provide a smaller static bonus, while others can offer a range of bonuses with higher maximum values.

Latent Power: Hoot and Holler

Latent Powers are a new feature to Octopath Traveler 2, which gives each traveler an ability that’s completely unique to them. These skills are earned by building the Latent Power Gauge by receiving damage and breaking foes. Using a Latent Power expends the gauge to provide its effects and does not require SP.

Partitio’s Latent Power is called Hoot and Holler. Activating this Latent Power fills Partitio’s Boost Point to the maximum value.

Partitio, The Merchant: Octopath Traveler 2 Character Guide - Latent Power: Hoot and Holler

Hoot and Holler is great for dealing burst damage, which can allow him to use 4 fully boosted attacks in 6 turns when starting from a full BP meter. He can even use Rest on the slight downtime to make sure he has enough SP to do so if using Divine Skills.

This would be done by using a fully boosted attack, letting the third point recover the following turn, using another boosted attack, Using Hoot and Holler with another boosted attack, waiting for the third point to recover again, then the final boosted attack.

Hoot and Holler can also be used in a more supportive manner to quickly fill the party’s BP meters using Donate BP, or by applying buffs from other battle jobs.

Octopath Traveler II Job Icon - Merchant Partitio’s Merchant Skills

Partito’s starting job is Merchant. With that comes a set of active and passive skills that complete the character. Merchants are primarily supportive jobs, being able to share their BP with he party as well as call in Hired help to provide various buffs.

Partitio’s EX Skills

EX Skills are a new feature of Octopath Traveler 2. Each Traveler has two skills unique to them that the other Travelers cannot get. These are often powerful attacks or skills with powerful utility.

Negotiate Schedule

  • Skill Type: Buff
  • SP Cost: 0
  • Effect: Pay a single foe to let you act during their turn.
  • Boost Effect: Reduce cost per BP spent.

This skill allows Partitio to pay off a foe, letting him act again on their turn instead of them. This can be a powerful, but expensive way to deny an enemy’s action. Stronger foes will cost a higher amount, making this a bit ill-suited for bosses.

Where to Unlock Negotiate Schedule

Negotiate Schedule can be obtained by taking Partitioto the Altar of the Merchant. He is required to be in the active party, or he will not receive this skill.

This Altar can be found in the Southern Crackridge Wilds. Once you reach the bridge here, take the stairs immediately west of the bridge down and head to this small cave with a chest as shown above. From here, head East into the wall from the chest, and you’ll go through a hidden passageway. Follow this path until its end to reach the altar room.

Share SP

  • Skill Type: Recovery
  • SP Cost: 25%
  • Effect: Grants your party 25% of your remaining SP.
  • Boost Effect: Consume and shares an additional 25% of your remaining SP per BP spent, up to 100%.

Share SP further’s Partitio’s ability as a support, allowing him to grant his SP to the whole party, despite the game’s description saying it only affects a single ally. This makes it exceptionally powerful in some situations. It’s a great way of recovering the party’s SP, without spending leaves on Foreign Assassins via Hired Help.

Where to Unlock Share SP

As his second EX Skill, Share SP will unlock upon completion of Partitio’s Story on Roque Island. He will not have access to the skill util his final chapter is complete, thus it is not available during the final boss of the chapter.

Octopath Traveler II Character - Partitio Partito’s Story

The sections below are details on Partitio’s Story in Octopath Traveler 2. As such, there are many spoilers below.

Overview

Partitio grows up being raised by his father Papp as he purchases and develops a plot of land alongside his business partner Roque. The land they purchase is said to be filled with silver, a resource that Roque thinks to be the biggest commerce as more and more regions start to use silver to mint currency.

As they develop the land, Partitio learns to learn more about the Merchant trade from his father and Roque. By the age of 16, Partitio is already an excellent merchant and significantly contributed to the town of Orerush becoming a very prosperous town.

After a while, Roque decides he’s going to leave town, fearing the worst due to the contract that was signed by Papp, Roque, and the landowner. Soon after, the landowner ends up doing exactly as Roque thought and took the land back and begins taxing the silver bought and sold out of Orerush.

This taxation leads to the town eventually becoming run down, and many workers struggle to keep food on the table with how quickly silver has become unprofitable for them. Partitio himself even struggled to purchase medicine for his now-ailing father.

After an encounter of with the ruffians that work for the landowner, Partitio learns who the landowner is, while also enabling the people of Orerush to actually earned enough to live.

With encouragement from the townsfolk and his father, Partitio sets out on his journey, looking to eliminate poverty from the world so nobody else has to suffer from it.

Chapter 1

Partito’s Story starts by showing his upbringing as a Merchant at two key points in his life. The first being when he was just 8 years old, back when his father Papp and his business partner Roque purchase land that is rumored to be overflowing with silver.

At this point in time, silver is just starting to be picked up as a trade item. Roque expects it to heavily pick up and be integrated into regular commerce as a currency, referring to it as the ‘Age of Silver’.

Papp decides to test Partitio’s budding business acumen by giving him a small bit of money and asking him to purchase some silver. So he finds a merchant and buys silver as requested. Upon returning, Papp and Roque examine the silver and praise Partitio’s discerning eye for quality.

After this, there’s a time-lapse showing the town being built up over the next 8 years. At this point, Orerush is very prosperous and thriving. So much so, that ruffians show up infrequently to try and take their silver by force. Thankfully for the workers, Partitio is willing to step up and challenge the ruffians, alongside a bit of Hired Help.

It’s at this time Roque decides to leave Orerush behind, looking for the next big business endeavor. Before leaving, he foreshadows that things are likely to get worse, since the contract that was signed by him and Papp indicates the landowner can buy the land back at any time. He offers to take Partitio with him but Partito declines, despite his respect for him.

Over the next 8 years, as Roque foreshadowed the landowner ended up taking the land back. They began taxing the land and its silver trade, and even the ruffians work for them now. Oresrush slowly descends into poverty, with its resident struggling to survive.

As the ruffian come to claim the taxes, and a bit extra for themselves, Partitio and the townsfolk decide it’s the last straw. Partito and a few of the townsfolk decide to storm the manse where these ruffians have decided to live.

After a thrashing by Partitio and crew, they surrender and leave town. They return all the money that was stolen from them. They also reveal that Roque is the mysterious landowner, and even changed the contract without Papp’s notice to make all of this happen.

With nobody coming to collect anymore, the townsfolk are in better spirits. They can finally begin to recover and they all encourage Partitio to set out into the world. With all the encouragement, Partitio feels confident enough to test his business acumen on the road.

He sets off with only the goal of eliminating poverty from the world. Having gone from being a wealthy merchant, all the way down to dealing with poverty due to unfair taxation, Partitio looks to keep more folks from having to experience poverty.
