Many of Octopath Traveler 2’s side stories have hints that can be accessed by various means. this can be talking to other NPCs, or using an information-gathering Path Action. Below are all the hint’s you’ll be able to get during the side story to help complete it.

The only story hint you get during this quest is by using any information-gathering Path Action to get information from the Fainthearted Youth. He sits in the Underground Arena area of Montwise, and will also be one of very few NPCs there during the day.

Collecting information will tell you that he is in love with his take-charge childhood friend, which happens to be the Worried Woman. It also gives you his motive for entering the tourney in the first place.

How to complete the Side Story

To complete this Side Story, we’ll need to head to the Underground Arena of Montwise after speaking with the Worried Woman. This can be accessed from the stairs on the east side of the town.

Once in the Underground Arena, locate the Fainthearted Youth. We’ll need to knock him unconscious to proceed. Since he’s present for both day and night, we can use Challenge or Provoke during the daytime or Ambush or Soothe at Night to proceed.

After he’s been knocked out, his turn in the arena will come up and the arena’s Barker will come looking for him. He’ll ask you to replace him in the upcoming match and before long you’re in the arena.

This will always be a 1v1 match versus Yurinas, using the character that knocked the Fainthearted Youth unconscious. However, you are not required to win the match. Yurinas will use Windswept Slash on their first turn and deal massive damage to you. A lot of this damage can be mitigated by equipping the Tempest Amulet that can be acquired from Agnea’s Chapter 4 Story.

Should you manage to win, you’ll be given the Champion’s Belt accessory. This powerful accessory grants you +100 to both Physical Attack and Critical. Don’t worry if you don’t defeat her here and now though as this fight will remain available and repeatable through the Barker in the arena. You can also acquire multiple copies of this accessory this way.

After the fight, Yurinas will take her helmet off, revealing that she was the Worried Woman. She confesses she didn’t want to hurt him or worse, but begs you to keep her secret and gives us our reward as thanks.

Our Reward for completing this Side Story is 2,000 in money and a Reinforcing Jam. Reinforcing Jam will fully restore a character’s HP, SP, and Latent Power Gauge.

As an additional reward, Yurinas can be found on the left side of the Underground Arena. This allows us to return at a later time and interact with her. It’s worth also noting that Hikari can learn her powerful Windswept Slash skill at any time by defeating her with Challenge.

We can use any of the Summoning Path Actions (Allure, Guide, Befriend, or Hire) to bring her along as a powerful ally, but not until much later. Allure will have a very low chance until late in the game and Guide cannot be used until Level 50, this leaves only Befriend and Hire as the most accessible options, provided you have the items or money for it.
