A guide showing you how to start and completethe side story “In Search of Divine Weapons” in Octopath Traveler 2, including the rewards you gain for finishing it: The new Armsmaster Job, unlocking Divine Weapons and more!
How to Start “In Search of Divine Weapons” Side Story
This story can be started by any character in the town of Gravell. Gravell is situated in the Northern Wildlands, on the Western Continent of Solstia.
You can access this location by heading North and then West from Crackridge, or the Crackridge Anchorage.
This quest is available as soon as you reach Gravell, however, you’ll need to knock out the Debt Collector blocking the door to the Weaponsmith’s building. This can be done by using any Path Action that renders an NPC unconscious.
Of note, Castti’s Soothe only requires Slumber Sage, the more common of her Soothe items. Alternatively, if you are leveled or geared Ambush, Challenge, and Provoke also work just fine.
After clearing the Debt Collector out of the way, you’ll be able to go into the building, where Porta the Retired Blacksmith resides. He’ll mistake you for the Debt Collector at first, but realize you aren’t and talk about his dream of repairing the Divine Weapons
This will then set you out on a journey to collect the Divine Weapons, scattered around Solstia.
How to complete In Search of Divine Weapons
In Search of Divine Weapons side story in Octopath Traveler 2 is a very long quest that will require you to visit several locations and complete some additional Side Stories across Solstia.
Below you will find explanations of how to find the exact locations of each of the six Rusty Weapons you’ll need to find, as well as their effects.
Where to find the Rusty Axe
The Rusty Axe can be retrieved from the Quicksand Gaol, a side area off the Western Sai Sands.
From the entrance, you’ll need to head down and into the sand pit. Here you’ll have to face a strong foe to reach the chest that contains the Rusty Axe.
For additional details on this foe as well as additional treasures found here, check out our Quicksand Gaol Exploration Guide. (This supplemental guide will be available soon.)
Where to find the Rusty Bow
The Rusty Bow can be retrieved from the Sinking Ruins, as side area off of the Southern Nameless Village Traverse.
From the entrance, you’ll need to follow the mostly linear path through the ruins to reach the chest at the very end which contains the Rusty Bow. Much like the Rusty Axe, this chest is also guarded by a strong foe, but as a higher-level area, this one can be more threatening.
For additional details on the Behemoth fight as well as additional treasures found here, check out our Sinking Ruins Exploration Guide. (This supplemental guide will be available soon.)
Where to find the Rusty Dagger
The Rusty Dagger can be retrieved from the Shipwreck of the Empress, found in the water just a bit Northeast of Canalbrine.
This area doesn’t have a boss to fight, but can still be fairly dangerous if you’re trying to enter under-leveled. To reach it you will be required to have at least complete Partitio’s Scent of Commerce located in Tropu’hopu. This is because you’ll need a personal ship to reach this location.
Follow the fairly linear path through the wreckage to the captain’s quarters on the ship’s Western side. The chest containing the Rusty Dagger is found here behind the desk, in plain view.
For additional details on this area, check out our Shipwreck of the Empress Exploration Guide. This details all of the treasures found there. (This supplemental guide will be available soon.)
Where to find the Rusty Polearm
The Rusty Polearm can be found in Timberain, which is guarded by a high-difficulty guard located just off of Timberain Castle Square.
It’s highly recommended to use Ambush or Soothe to knock the guard unconscious, as he can be fairly difficult. However, if you were to knock him with Hikari, he can learn the Frenzied Fire skill, which is a fairly strong Bow-based skill that hits all targets multiple times.
After knocking out the guard using your method of choice, open the door behind him and follow the hidden path all the way to the East, where the chest holding the Rusty Polearm resides.
Where to find the Rusty Staff
The Rusty Staff can be found in the Seat of the Water Sprite. This side area is found off the Borderfall area of the Crestlands, located between Flameschurch and Montwise.
There’s no boss to deal with here either, and is a fairly low level it’ll one of the earliest you can get, next to the Sword which has the lowest requirement of them all.
Make your way to the back of the area and take the ladder down into the water. Follow the path a bit South to the chest containing the Rusty Staff.
For additional details on this area, check out our Seat of the Water Sprite Exploration Guide. This guide details all of the treasures to be found here. (This supplemental guide will be available soon.)
Where to find the Rusty Sword
The Rusty Sword can be acquired in Winterbloom, but we’ll have to complete a Side Story to get it.
We’ll need to head to the East of the item shop and help the Troubled Woman, complete the Sword in the Stone Side Story to receive the Rusty Sword as reward.
For a detailed walkthrough, check out our The Sword in the Stone Side Story Guide. It details the possible ways to solve this Side Story and claim the Rusty Sword for this quest.

Divine Weapons
The Divine Weapons themselves are not limited to use by strictly the Armsmasters, and in fact, are quite strong weapons in their own right. Below is a quick table that details the six weapons along with their stats and effects.
Weapon Name | Phys. Attack | Elem. Attack | Effect |
---|---|---|---|
Lionheart’s Axe | +320 | 0 | Equip: Increases Max HP in combat. |

All six weapons have unique effects to them, but not all of them are absolutely mandatory to use with the Armsmaster, mostly depending on which skill you find useful, which varies between travelers.
Final Reward
For bringing back all 6 Divine weapons, you’re also given a final reward of 20,000 leaves and the Wise King’s Shield.
The Wise King’s Shield also is one of the stronger shield options in the game, being the fourth-strongest defensive shield in terms of raw stats. However, its effect that raises your Physical Defense at the start of Combat can easily makes it one of the best options next to the Battle-Tested Shield.
