Diablo 4 Editions Differences and Preorder Items Overview

RubyRose by RubyRose|

This guide covers everything given in each of Diablo 4’s available editions and recommendations on what’s worth the price and why!

What is included in Diablo 4’s Standard Edition

Coming in at $69.99 USD, or your regional equivalent, the Standard Edition comes in at the new AAA title pricing. At the very least, they throw in some goodies for both Diablo 4 and other titles to make it a more worthwhile increase.

The only Diablo 4-specific item that comes with the Standard Edition is the Caparison of Faith Mount Armor.

This Mount Armor is a red cloak with a black saddle resting on top of it. It also includes black face armor for the horse as well, which spans the length of the face and mane of the horse.

In addition to this, you’ll also gain the following items for other Blizzard titles:

  • Diablo 3 – Inarius Wings and Inarius Murloc Pet
  • Diablo Immortal – Umber Winged Darkness Cosmetic Set
  • World of Warcraft – Amalgam of Rage Mount

Overall Standard Edition is really just for those that want the game and nothing more really. You get some decent bonuses if you play other Blizzard titles, but if you don’t then those won’t be adding much value.

What is included in Diablo 4’s Deluxe Edition

Continuing into the Deluxe Edition, you get the items below as well as the content of the Standard Edition above.

This upgrade comes with a couple of notable additions: the Season 1 Battle Pass, the Temptation Mount, Hellborn Carapace Mount Armor, as well as Early access if you did pre-purchase the game.

With the hefty price of $89.99 USD, or your regional equivalent, this is a pretty significant jump in price. While the Premium Battle Pass makes up half of this added cost, it also leaves the other half to the Mount, which honestly is probably about what you’ll expect to pay in the in-game shop for a mount skin.

Season 1 Battle Pass

Seems like Battle Passes are everywhere these days, and even Diablo is not an exception. The Deluxe version will grant you the Premium Battle Pass for Season 1 of Diablo 4, which is said to start mid to late July.

The battle pass itself has one singular combined rewards track, which at this point is arguably a dated design. It’s currently unknown what to fully expect out of this battle pass. The few glimpses they have shown include Cosmetics, Emotes, Platinum (Diablo 4’s premium currency), as well as Smoldering Ashes, which are used to enable Season Blessings.

The Battle Pass is also stated to consist of 90 tiers, of which only 27 are free to all players while the remaining 63 are Premium only.

In a lot of cases, Battle Passes tend offer a pretty good amount of value, but It’ll be hard to say just how much value this has until we get a look at the full battle pass. The Platinum included in the Battle Pass does at least ensure you’re able to get additional cosmetic or save on the battle pass for the following season.

We’ll have a full guide detailing the content of the Battle Pass when the season begins in July, so stay tuned for that!

Temptation Mount and Hellborn Carapace Mount Armor

The other big determining item for the Deluxe version’s value is the additional Mount and Mount armor.

The Temptation Mount itself is honestly a fantastic-looking mount, sporting a more demonic appearance. It appears as an almost purely flesh and bone horse, predominately red, with bits of bone showing here and there.

Temptation Mount

As for the Hellborn Carapace Armor, this appears to be armor made of blackened or possibly charred bones. Much like other Mount Armor, it covers the horse’s face and mane and includes the saddle. The face section of the armor also includes a horn on one side of the head.

What is included in Diablo 4’s Ultimate Edition

In addition to the content of the Standard and Deluxe versions of Diablo 4, the Ultimate Edition comes with one unique emote and an upgrade to the Battle Pass, instead granting the Accelerated Battle Pass instead.

Coming in at the price of $99.99 USD, or your regional equivalent, this doesn’t come with nearly as much of a price jump as the previous tier. It also offers a bit less in terms of additional items over the previous tier.

Accelerated Battle Pass

Stated to have a cost of $24.99 USD (compared to the $9.99 USD of the Premium Battle Pass), the Accelerated Battle Pass comes with two advantages over the Premium Battle Pass. You’ll skip 20 tiers of the pass immediately, as well as get an additional cosmetic unique to that season.

While jumping forward 20 tiers combined with Smoldering Ashes and the Season Blessing system would seem like a huge “pay-to-win” thing, some items like the Smoldering Ashes are actually level-locked meaning your can’t claim them until a specific in-game level is reached. You might still get them a little earlier, but likely not by much, as in-game levels won’t be much of an issue for this first season.

Much like the contents of the Battle Pass, we also do not know exactly what the additional cosmetic is. This makes the value of such questionable overall. Additionally, you won’t get this until the start of the season in mid to late July. So there’s no real upfront value to this but worth keeping in mind for the price.

If you’re the type that wants all the cosmetics, this will be a fair option to get as this will save you a bit of money overall, compared to getting the Accelerated Battle Pass separately later on. While it’s a huge increase in price over the standard version the additional cosmetics make up for it if you’re big on collecting them.

Wing of the Creator Emote

This isn’t really a high-value item in my opinion. While it’s a cool emote that lets you float in place briefly with Inarius-style wings, the only thing that sets it apart is that it’s not likely to be added to the shop later on. It would have been much better as a cosmetic set of wings.

Which Edition Should You Get

To answer the question everyone will likely have, which Edition has the actual best value really depends on how much of a collector you are or want to be for cosmetics.

If you absolutely don’t care about the additional cosmetics, then stick with the Standard Edition. Even the Battle Pass is mostly cosmetics, so if they’re not of importance to you, save the money. For some people, fashion is often its own endgame for games like this.

However, if cosmetics are something you can never get enough of, then we suggest the Ultimate Edition instead. While it’s a bit more pricey than the Deluxe Edition, it’s not a huge jump.

This gets you everything from the Deluxe version, in addition to upgrading your Battle Pass for a little bit less if you had done it separately. This also nets you the additional cosmetic that comes with the Accelerated Battle Pass, and the extra Emote that comes with the Ultimate Edition as a bonus.

Diablo 4’s Pre-Purchase Bonuses

Below are the pre-purchases bonuses that were available for Diablo 4. With the game’s full launch of June 6th, these are no longer available.

Up to Four Days of Early Access

The biggest one was is Early access to the game. That’s four days you get to hop in and progress your characters and account before the servers inevitably get overwhelmed on launch day.

While this isn’t huge for a lot of people, the biggest advantage to this is you’ll get to play during the weekend prior to launch, getting access as early as Thursday, June 1st depending on your region.

For those of you that were looking to get time off to enjoy the game, this can let you have a great time with the launch, regardless if you wanted to take time off work to have time free just for the launch or not.

The only thing that you’d want to take into consideration with this is if you can or want to wait, as well as the additional money you’ll need to spend on the Digital Deluxe Edition. Sadly this pre-purchase perk is only available for those that get the Digital Deluxe or Ultimate Editions.

Light-bearer Mount

It’ll take a bit of time in-game before you can actually be able to use your mounts, as they’re not available until around level 40-ish, and only become available during the second chapter of the main story. Once you’ve completed the Act 4 Quest “Mount: Donan’s Favor” this as well as the mount included in other editions will be available.

That aside, The Light-bearer Mount is only one of two Mounts included in the Standard Edition. While it may be unique to the pre-purchase, you’ll have a number of options both from in-game and those included with other editions that can make this a hard selling point for pre-purchases.

Light-bearer Mount

The Light-bearer mount appears to be a white horse with bloodied and bandaged lower legs. It’s hard to discern any further detail, as the it’s often shown with the Mount Armor included with the Standard Edition.

UPDATE: The first expansion to the game also exists in three tiers. Check our guide to the Diablo IV Vessel of Hatred Editions to find out what is included in each one of them and which is the best option for you if you decide to purchase it.
