Diablo 4’s Renown system will reward us for completing events, strongholds, Waypoints, Altars of Lilith, and more!
This guide is updated for Diablo IV Season 6 and Patch 2.0.

What is Renown in Diablo 4
If we reach a new area and complete a few events, we get a message that we can pick up our reward. On the PC we need to click the TAB button and a new menu will open. In it, we will find Renown. But what is it and what does it do?
How to get Renown in Diablo 4
All the activities we do in all the areas of Sanctuary add to our Renown level. We get various points for activities we have done. A dungeon, for example, gives us Renown for the particular region we are currently in.
All 6 Regions of Sanctuary are part of the Diablo 4 Renown System. Each of these is tracked separately per region and per character. The Regions are:
- Kehjistan
- Hawezar
- Dry Steppes
- Fractured Peaks
- Scosglen
- Nahantu (Vessel of Hatred Required)
The following activities give us Renown.
- Waypoints – 20 Renown
- Strongholds – 100 Renown
- Side Quests – 20 Renown
- Areas Discovered – 5 Renown
- Side Dungeons – 30 Renown
- Altars of Lilith – 10 Renown
- Tenant of Akarat – 10 Renown (Nahantu Only)
Completing the activities listed above will reward us with extra health potions, and large sums of gold.
There is a way to track our Renown and the completed activities in the area we are in by pressing TAB and there we can find our Renown statistics.
If we click W on our keyboard then we will find the Renown we have earned in the Region that we are currently in. There are several tabs on top to see the Renown of the other regions we have visited. After we have claimed the reward we can see what the requirement level is of the next Tier.
How to unlock Diablo 4 Renown Rewards
There are 5 tiers we can unlock and if we start an Alt then we will take some of it with us to our next character. For instance, I created a Rogue and because my Sorcerer had a few tiers unlocked in various regions, I was gifted the skill points. So I started Rogue with 3 extra skill points, which was a blessing.
In order to unlock Tier Rewards, all we have to do is complete missions, sidequests, and Dungeons, explore the area, and do side dungeons and Altars of Lilith. The last tier doesn’t require 100% of these objectives to be complete, so we have some wiggle room.
Despite this wiggle room, we highly recommend collecting all of the Altars of Lilith, as they award stat bonuses in addition to their Renown. The same is not true of the Tenants of Akarat for the Vessel of Hatred’s Nahantu zone, so those can be done as we see fit.
Of the Renown Rewards listed in the above Image, only those found in the bottom row will carry over to new characters. This includes those created in the Seasonal Realm even if they’ve only been completed in the Eternal Realm.
In addition to potion Capacity and Obol Capacity, this nets us an additional 10 Skill Points and 20 Paragon points for any new character if we complete enough in each region to complete Tier 5 on any of our characters. This increases to 12 Skill Points and 24 Paragon points with the Vessel of Hatred Expansion.
In Diablo 4, the Renown System follows a linear scaling progression. This makes the first few rewards quick and easy to obtain,
Tier | Rewards | Renown to Claim | Total Renown |
---|---|---|---|
Tier 1 | Extra XP 100 Gold 1 Skill Point | 100 | 100 |
Tier 2 | Extra XP 1,000 Gold 1 Potion Capacity | 200 | 300 |
Tier 3 | Extra Bonus XP 10,000 Gold 1 Skill Point | 300 | 800 |
Tier 4 | Extra XP 100,000 Gold 4 Paragon Points | 400 | 1,200 |
Tier 5 | Extra XP 1,000,000 Gold 80 Obol Carrying Capcity | 500 | 1,700 |
How to claim Renown Rewards
In order to claim the Renown Rewards of Diablo 4, We’ll need to press the assigned button to open the Region Progress UI while on the Map. Additionally, after reaching a new milestone in a region’s progress, opening the map will also take us straight here.
There are also several tabs on top where we can find the Renown we have earned in other Regions.
How to Earn Renown Fast
For the most part, this system is long-term progression, there are ways to significantly speed it up.
Throughout the whole process outlined below, be sure to keep an eye out for the Altars of Lilith when not in Nahantu and Tenant of Akarat when we are in Nahantu. These give a small amount of Renown but can be claimed with a simple interaction as we pass them.
First, we’ll want to knock out every Stronghold we can. Doing so will often open up new Way Points as well as new quests. The Way Points help us get around a bit faster, while quests are additional renown.
Next, we’ll want to get every single quest we’re allowed to carry. These will often send us into dungeons, so getting them ahead of time is a great way to speed up the process. We’ll also be able to complete many of them as we travel from dungeon to dungeon, either by slaying monsters or doing certain steps.
After we’ve cleaned up all of our Dungeons and Strongholds, we’ll want to do any remaining Side Quests to finish off the required Renown for Tier 5. We can also look to open up through the exploration rewards, as that also carries over to new characters, but can be done at any time and gives very minimal renown.
