Secret Invasion episode 6 is the final episode in the limited series. The Skrulls find a new home on Earth and Gravik is gone for good.
Secret Invasion episode 6 does the old bait and switch
In the last episode, we saw that G’iah was alive and Fury had picked up a vial with The Harvest, the DNA of all superheroes who played a role in Avengers: Endgame.
Secret Invasion episode 6 starts with Fury going from Finland to Russia to find New Skrullos. He finds Gravik at the Super Skrull machine. The machine can infuse an ordinary Skrull into a Super Skrull using superpower DNA, so Gravik is keen on having it.
When Fury enters the room, his iodine pills for the strong radiation from the machine are destroyed and thrown into sewage by Gravik. Does this mean the very end of Fury?
While Fury struggles to stay alive in the radiation, Gravik starts to tell his story. He said that he was a product of Fury’s empty promise. And that he just wants to take Earth to give the Skrulls a home rather than wait for Fury.
Fury replies that he did give them a planet and it is Earth. But he would transport Gravik to the next planet for him to conquer and leave Earth alone. And on that note, we cue the “Leave Britney alone” video on YouTube.
When Gravik receives The Harvest he checks it for purity and he uses the machine after that. But Fury is also in that machine and he is also infused. But is it Fury? No, it’s G’iah! And she now has the same powers as Gravik. A big fight ensues and G’iah wins at the expense of Gravik’s life. But the planet is saved and so are the Skrulls or are they?
Skrull Rhodey unmasked
In Secret Invasion episode 6, Sonya and an unknown friend go out to take care of Skrull Rhodey who is trying to convince the President to go nuclear on the Russians because of the attempt to kidnap the President. The President refuses.
While G’iah fights off Gravik, Sonya is in the hospital to try and convince the Rhodey to move the president because Fury is pissed off and plans something at the hospital. While the president is moved, the Secret Service members are all picked off one by one by an unknown assailant. Sonya is clearly visible but who is the other?
As the run through the hospital reaches its end and all of the Secret Service agents are down and out, the only one left standing is James Rhodes who is held at gunpoint by Sonya while the President is in his bed holding a gun pointed towards Sonya.
The moment Fury comes in and tells him the truth about Rhodey and that he is a Skrull who has infiltrated the US Government along with others in key positions in the world. The real Rhodey is being held in stasis in the Russian Skrull basecamp.
The President hesitates but Sonya doesn’t and shoots Skrull Rhodey who changes into the Skrull as he dies without fulfilling his objective.
Meanwhile, G’iah frees all the captives whose places were taken while the Skrulls infiltrated. And we see Rhodey come out of stasis and wonder how long he has been there. But G’iah can’t give a proper answer to that question.
This begs the question, how long has this Secret Invasion been going? When did the Rogue Skrulls decide to infiltrate the world and try and control it? I guess we will have to wait for the next developments for the answers to those questions and Marvel left it open on purpose.
Under new Skrull leadership
The aftermath of Secret Invasion episode 6 shows that G’iah is the new leader of New Skrullos. She follows in the footsteps of her father and I am sure she will do a tremendous job. She doesn’t radicalize, unlike the rogue Skrulls.
The help she gets is from Sonya. Sonya will fund the new leadership of the Skrulls to continue to make use of their extraordinary skills.
The president however announces that he will continue to fight against the Skrulls because he was in shock at what he experienced himself. Fury calls the president and asks him to call off the hunt. While he does that we see scenes where a lot of Skrull impostors get killed. But the worst part is that the words of the president also inspired idiots to kill innocent people. So there is a need for a Skrull task force to offer them a home in New Skrullos.
Fury takes Priscilla to S.A.B.E.R.
We watched Fury and Priscilla over the course of the show. We watched her struggle with the loss of Fury and his come back from the Blip. In Secret Invasion episode 6, Priscilla joins Fury to help out with S.A.B.E.R. which means it is highly likely that we will see Priscilla in The Marvels. The movie comes out in November.
Secret Invasion makes clear that Fury is also only human. He has his flaws but also his strong qualities. The difference between Fury from the first Avengers movie and the current one is that this one is less ruthless and more empathic.
What does that mean for the future? I am hoping that this Fury from Secret Invasion will continue to go down this path. Maybe with a less cynical view of humanity.
