Ahsoka Episode 6 Breakdown and Easter Eggs

Ahsoka Episode 6 marks the live-action debut of beloved characters that are essential to the plot of this series. They’re back!

The previous episode was a love letter for fans of Clone Wars. This week is the turn of Rebels’ fans to rejoice!

Recap of the story

After falling into the ocean, Ahsoka encounters Anakin. They have a brief chat before going into Ahsoka’s memories, where he gets to teach her a final lesson. Not much later, she’s found by Hera floating in the middle of the ocean.

Ahsoka has been “reborn”, she has finally faced the fears that were holding her down. The change in her character is extremely visible, from her demeanor to her robes. This is the version of Ahsoka that we’ve been waiting for.

With the Eye of Scion gone, Ahsoka must think of a new way to follow Morgan Elsbeth. Just like Ezra during the Battle of Lothal, she asks for the help of the first creatures that could do hyperspace travel, the mighty Purrgils.

Nightsisters

The Nightsisters of Dathomir have been around for quite some time. Many questions regarding their origin have been around since their appearance in Clone Wars and after many years we finally have some answers.

Ahsoka Episode 6 Nightsisters

I always wondered why the Nighsisters had so much power and yet, they possess little to zero technology. They’ve always been in tune with nature, even if it’s in a twisted/creepy way. Since these witches were able to tame the Rancors of Dathomir I can see them doing the same with the Purrgils.

The Force can be used in different ways, we’re used to seeing only a Jedi/Sith wield it but there are many clans, cults, and cultures around the galaxy that give it a different use. The Nightsisters are able to raise an army of undead, increase someone’s natural strength, teleport from one place to another, and even cast spells that can hide a ship in plain sight.

The true reach of their power is still unknown but I have the feeling that our minds are going to be blown away before the season finale of this series.

The Return Of Grand Admiral Thrawn

A moment that I’ve been waiting for since Ahsoka mentioned his name on Season 2 of The Mandalorian. Minutes after Morgan arrives at Peridea, the Chimera makes its live-action debut. This Imperial Star Destroyer inspired fear in the hearts of every rebel, the artwork on the bottom made it stand out from every other ship of this type but what made it truly scary was the person commanding it.

Ahsoka Episode 6 Thrawn's Star Destroyer

The Grand Admiral Thrawn is back after years of exile in the unknown regions. To many, he might just look like a blue humanoid species (Chiss), but there’s a lot more than meets the eye.

What I really like about Thrawn is that there was no one like him in the ranks of the Galactic Empire when it still ruled the galaxy. Darth Vader was feared by everyone, but Thrawn earned the respect of both allies and enemies.

Ahsoka Episode 6 Thrawn returns

He is cold, smart, calculating, and relentless. Thrawn understands that knowledge is power, he never leaves things to chance and unlike Palpatine and Vader, the Grand Admiral never underestimates his enemy.

But even with such qualities and against all odds, he lost the Battle of Lothal. Plenty of time has passed since that and I’m sure his time in Peridea has changed him. The Empire is no more but he still inspires its remnants. Whatever Thrawn plans to do next, it’s going to threaten the entire New Republic.

What his soldiers have become is very intriguing, I’ve never seen a Stormtrooper that actually looks intimidating. Considering the influence that the Great Mothers appear to have in Thrawn’s plan, it wouldn’t be shocking to learn that these Stormtroopers are no longer human.

Searching For Ezra

It’s still hard to process that Sabine has endangered the entire galaxy just for the chance to find her friend. It feels like she’s betraying Ezra’s sacrifice, regardless of how “good” her intentions are.

Ahsoka Episode 6 - Search for Ezra

The last thing someone did something similar, the entire Jedi Order was destroyed and darkness ruled the galaxy for three decades. It’s probably the riskiest decision someone has made in recent Star Wars media but only time will tell if it’s worth it, my guess would be that it’s not.

Surprisingly, Thrawn releases Sabine and gives her a mount, provisions, and weapons. Whether her search is a success or not, it now all depends on her.

After being attacked by a group of “nomads” that wore some pretty badass armor, Sabine finds a very peculiar group of creatures that resemble a crab.

After a few attempts at communicating with each other, she follows them to their place. This is where Sabine finally finds Ezra Bridger, a powerful and emotive moment that many of us have been waiting for a long time. To be honest, I didn’t think it would happen before the final episode of Ahsoka.

Ahsoka Episode 6 Sabine finds Ezra

It’s obvious that Ezra and Sabine want to talk a little bit about everything that has happened since he disappeared but this is no time for that. Time is extremely valuable at this point so they better try to figure out how they’re going to get out of this desolate planet.

Baylan Skoll’s True Purpose

Since the first episodes, Baylan has hidden his true intentions. Sure, he rescued Morgan Elsbeth from the New Republic but it wasn’t out of loyalty. After all, he’s referred to as a mercenary.

Ahsoka Episode 6 - Baylan Skoll's True Purpose

What is surprising is that not even Shin Hati was aware of her master’s plans. It’s like she’s always kept in the dark and only gets to know the next step of the plan when it’s essential.

This doesn’t talk positively about the relationship between the two dark Jedi. With each episode, she looks less convinced of the path Baylan is following. But maybe that will change if they find whatever he thinks is on Peridea.

Baylan practically quotes George Lucas when talking about the never-ending cycle. The Republic rules the galaxy, it falls and an Empire rises in its place, then the Empire is defeated and the New Republic is created. It has been like that for thousands of years, and it will continue to be that way.

Many people believe that the Force has a will, every”good” and “bad” thing that happens is because of it. Sometimes it takes more time than others, but the Force is always balancing things out, for better or worse.

If Baylan really intends to finish this cycle then he wants to “hurt” or destroy the Force itself. There is only one person that I can think of who has considered this same idea. Darth Traya was a powerful Sith that lived thousands of years before the Skywalker saga. She was extremely powerful and knowledgeable about the Force and not even she could do such a feat.

Baylan Skoll is without a doubt a strong warrior, but I think his ambitions are way too high. Even putting it into words is hard, attempting to destroy the Force itself is crazy. Could this mean that we get to see the return of the Mortis gods? They are the embodiment of the Force but only the chosen one (Anakin) was able to tame them.

It would be amazing to see them in live-action but it’s hard to even consider it a possibility. In my opinion, he’s biting more than he can chew. Baylan’s role in the story isn’t entirely clear but it looks like we’re not going to see him in any future stories.

Easter Eggs And References

Some of this week’s easter eggs aren’t explicit in the episode but I consider that it’s still important to mention them in order to understand the bigger picture.

A Long Time Ago In A Galaxy, Far, Far Away…

This is probably the first time that this line has been said in Star Wars media, despite existing for more than forty years. It doesn’t add much to the story but it was so cool to hear Professor Huyang say it.

Ahsoka Episode 6 Easter Eggs

Mother Talzin

The great mothers are wearing the same robes that Mother Talzin used during the Clone Wars. She was the leader of the Nightsisters of Dathomir and the “mother” of both Maul and Asajj Ventress.

Darth Traya

The character that I mentioned appeared in Knights of the Old Republic II. Baylan’s intentions are extremely similar to what she attempted. If this topic is of interest to you, I really recommend that you read more about her. In my opinion, she’s the best-written character in all of Star Wars.

The Mortis Gods

During an episode of The Clone Wars, Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Ahsoka end up stranded on a strange planet. This planet was the home of The Father, The Son, and The Daughter. The Son represented the dark side and the Daugther the light side. Anakin was able to overpower both of them to release his friends.

These entities appeared on the mural at the entrance of the Jedi Temple that gave Ezra access to the World Between Worlds.

Enoch

Captain Enoch could be named after Enoch, the man whom the bible refers to as the man who “walked with God, and he was no more; for God took him.” This has many different interpretations that I won’t talk about yet, Star Wars is known for including many symbolisms of different religions and mythologies. Hopefully, we’ll see if there’s one for this too after the final two episodes.

Ahsoka Episode 6 Easter Eggs

Kintsugi

Thrawn’s troops have been through a lot. I’m sure that getting defeated and exiled broke them (figuratively and literally), but they have been repaired with what appears to be gold.

Ahsoka Episode 6 Easter Eggs

Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken things with gold. This is considered a celebration of the object’s imperfections. Once the object is repaired, it is considered stronger and more beautiful. In true Thrawn fashion, the armors of all troopers have been restored and their resolve is probably greater than ever.

Final Thoughts about Ahsoka Episode 6

Episode 6 “Far, Far, Away” wasn’t as intense as the last one but it’s just as important. Learning that the Nightsisters have a huge role in the story is super exciting, they were always intriguing in the Clone Wars animated show. Without Palpatine or the Jedi Order, probably no one can match their dark side-fueled power.

The “Night troopers” are another new mystery. They move, sound and probably fight differently than any soldier the Empire ever trained. It wouldn’t surprise me if they’re not even humans anymore. Even if I’m mistaken, at least I hope that they’re as menacing as they look.

Leaders of the New Republic have wasted their time debating rumors, they’re in for a rude awakening. Thrawn understands that this time he’s at a disadvantage, every one of his movements will be swift and lethal.

I feel sorry for the poor captains that Thrawn uses as target practice when he finally returns. At the same time, it’s so hard to contain the excitement. Grand Admiral Thrawn is back!

I can’t decide what was better, the return of Thrawn or the long-awaited reunion of Sabine with Ezra. Until Ahsoka was announced, I never even considered the possibility of it happening in a live-action series. It’s just a matter of time before we get to see the Ghost Crew together once again.

There’s no way I can predict what happens next, to be honest, I don’t even want to try. The amount of surprises we’ve got in this series surpassed every expectation that I had and the best thing is that we still have two episodes left!
