Quantum Leap Season 2 Preview

Manfred by Manfred|

Quantum Leap season 2 is back on October 4, 2023, and thus Ben Song will be leaping again from body to body to help people while he tries to get back home.

In other words: Ben woke to find himself trapped in the past and future, facing mirror images that were not his own, and driven by an unknown force to change history and the future for the better…

Quantum Leap Season 1 Recap

In Quantum Leap season 1, Ben Song is tricked into stepping into the Quantum Leap Machine by Janice Calavicci, the daughter of Al Calavicci of the original Quantum Leap series.

Quantum Leap season 2

Team Quantum Leap tries everything to find out the motives of Janice. But she didn’t budge at all. But she did semi-join Team Quantum Leap. And in the end, she proved her value, albeit as a prisoner, by saving Ben from death quite a few times.

Meanwhile, Ben’s fiancee Addison supports him through a holographic projection everywhere Ben leaps. She is also the one who misses him the most because unlike Ben she does retain her memories whereas Ben lost his entire memory of everything, including the memory where he was engaged to her. Over the course of the 1st season, Ben slowly retains his memories but he never gets them back in full.

Another member of Team Quantum Leap is Ian, he is the techie of the team. Utilizing his skills, Ian supports Ben by accessing historical databases to see what happened and what Ben needs to do in order to successfully complete the mission.

The computer he uses is none other than the Quantum computer they call Ziggy. I think it’s named after David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust.

And lastly, we have both Jen Chu and Magic Williams. Both are government operatives. Jen is a former CIA agent and Magic is the head of Team Quantum Leap with ties to mysterious and shady people in the government. They both support Team Quantum Leap by using their skills and contacts.

The first season of Quantum Leap excelled in human interest stories. Some episodes I would rate classic episodes. Like the episode about the transgender girl on the basketball team. Or the episode where the world was wiped out in a nuclear warfest.

What I expect to see in Season 2

There are things I would like to see in Quantum Leap season 2. The first season was not just exciting and riveting, there were a lot of cameos too. Think of Al’s wife, who gets visited by her daughter Janice. She came straight from the original series. But there were also gadgets like the original holo-comms from Al, which Janice stole.

Quantum Leap season 2

What I would like to see in Quantum Leap season 2 are more cameos and references to the original show so that the show is interconnected. I know that Scott Bakula has refused to star in the show so far for reasons I do not know but it would be great to see some of the people who he has lept into or meet some of the people from the first season and continue their storyline.

Another reason to reuse former storylines is to see what happens to the people whom Ben has lept into and see how their lives turn out. Maybe they even help him in some capacity in order to do something in return.

Who is Leaper X?

Over the course of Quantum Leap Season 1, Ben encounters an evil leaper. Apparently, he has been turning around all the good work Ben has done. And he even manages to kill Ben almost if it weren’t for Addison.

It turns out that the other reaper, dubbed Leaper X, is part of an organization that follows Ben but instead of the best possible outcome, they go for the worst possible outcome.

In Quantum Leap season 2 I would like to see more background information on the organization that created Leaper X and perhaps even a timeline where Ben comes after Leaper X rather than the other way around. Leaper X usually ruins everything after Ben has lept into his next adventure.

More Magic and more Jen

I loved both of them but I would like to see more of them in Quantum Leap Season 2. I would like to see more of the people behind Magic. According to the show’s description, Magic answers to a few higher-ups so that is something the show can explore over the course of the new season.

How long will Quantum Leap season 2 last?

With the SAG AFTRA strike over and the writers going back to work this week, at least for some shows, it remains to be seen how long Quantum Leap Season 2 will be on television.

What we do know is that the new season will have 13 episodes with the possibility of adding 5 more episodes. A full season, which is 22 episodes, is off the table because according to NBC it would cost too much in terms of special effects. And by the looks of the first season, I can imagine. The show’s CGI is amazing and I would prefer to have the quality of the show be consistent rather than bad CGI.
