What is The High Republic Project
The High Republic is a multimedia project that officially began in 2021. The stories of this era are published in comics, novels for different ages, short stories, and even audio dramas. It covers from 382 BBY to 100 BBY.
More recently, it started spreading to video games with the Star Wars Jedi Survivor and The Acolyte TV Series.
There are three different Phases. The number of each phase represents the order in which they were released, but not the chronological order. The chronological order would be:
Phase II – Phase I – Phase III
What this article covers
I recommend that you experience these stories first hand but if that’s not possible then this article summarizes and explains the most important events from Phase I for anyone who doesn’t want or can’t spend time and money consuming these stories.
The information included here is taken mostly from the Adult and Young Adult novels of Phase I:
- Light of the Jedi
- Into the Dark
- A Test of Courage
- The High Republic Comic Series (Marvel)
- The Rising Storm
- Out of the Shadows
- The Fallen Star
To put it into perspective, listening to all of them in audio format would take 74 hours at regular speed assuming you never rewind.
About Phase I
There are dozens of important characters and even more storylines. Unlike Phase II, it starts big with many characters being introduced at once. Keeping track of everything can be overwhelming at first but it is worth it.
To fully understand this article, I recommend that you get familiar with the events of Phase II that happened 150 years before.
The galaxy is at peace, ruled by the glorious Republic and protected by the noble and wise Jedi Knights.
As a symbol of all that is good, the Republic is about to launch Starlight Beacon into the far reaches of the Outer Rim. This new space station will serve as a ray of hope for all to see.
But just as a magnificent renaissance spreads throughout the Republic, so does a frightening new adversary. Now the guardians of peace and justice must face a threat to themselves, the galaxy, and the Force itself…
The Great Hyperspace Disaster
A ship named The Legacy Run travels through hyperspace while transporting around nine thousand people from the core worlds to the Outer Rim. This was supposed to be the final journey of the ship as it has been in service for many years.
This last journey is supposed to be a routine job for an experienced crew but things change quickly after an object appears in front of them. This shouldn’t be possible, hyperspace routes are supposed to be safe passages but nonetheless, an obstacle is blocking their way. Avoiding coalition is impossible and the Legacy Run gets torn apart into thousands of pieces.
The Hetzal system starts to detect multiple objects coming out of hyperspace near their orbit, it doesn’t take long before they realize what’s happening. This threat puts the system in danger so they decide to send a distress signal to the Republic.
Aboard the Republic Cruiser Third Horizon, Jedi Master Avar Kriss is the first to respond and arrive at the system. With the help of smaller cruisers and Jedi Vector starfighters, she coordinates an effort to save as many people as possible.
Among its cargo, The Legacy Run carried tanks with liquid Tibanna gas. One of these tanks heads toward a nearby star, hitting it would result in a catastrophe. Once Avar realizes this, she calls out all the Jedi in the system to push the tank in a different direction.
The effort is so intense that some Jedi end up dying but they manage to save everyone on Hetzal. Keven Tarr, the technician who sent out the distress signal transmits the entire thing on the HoloNet. All the galaxy witnessed how the Jedi risked themselves in order to protect the people of Hetzal.
The people start calling Avar Kriss The Hero of Hetzal and the Jedi are widely acknowledged as the guardians and protectors of the Republic.
Despite Hetzal being safe, the wreckage of the Legacy Run continues to appear on different parts of the galaxy, putting many more systems at risk. This is the hyperspace disaster mentioned by Indara in Episode 7 of The Acolyte.
Awakening the Drengir
Multiple ships, including a Republic vessel carrying Jedi Masters Cohmac Vitus, Jedi Wayseeker Orla Jareni, and Padawan Reath Silas as well as other personnel have to exit hyperspace due to the wreckage of the Great Disaster. A nearby star is releasing dangerous flares so they are forced to find shelter in what appears to be an abandoned space station.
This station was used by an ancient civilization called the Amaxine. It has the peculiarity of being completely filled with trees and plants but that is not the strangest thing about this place. Padawan Reath Silas and Jedi Master Cohmac Vitus feel a dark presence in the Maxine Station.
After inspecting the entire place, they notice that the dark presence comes from some weird statues. Once the flares from the nearby dying star stop and it’s safe for everyone to return to the Republic, the Jedi decide to take the statues to the Jedi temple.
This awakens the Drengir, powerful dark-side carnivorous plants that are extremely dangerous. The statues were used by the Sith to seal the Drengir inside the station but with them being removed these vicious creatures came back to life.
The Drengir are sentient species connected by a collective mind, controlled by a more powerful Drengir. Their sole purpose is to consume meat and what makes them extremely dangerous is their natural alignment to the dark side of the Force.
Even massive beasts like Wampas are their prey, which gives you a rough idea of how big they are.
Born from darkness, pain, and hatred. They are capable of corrupting even the minds of trained Jedi and bringing them into their ranks. Since they are plant-like creatures, they spawn from seeds and can grow up to be massive. Naturally, many confuse them with trees.
Additionally, they are notoriously hard to kill. Lightsabers or blasters are ineffective against a Drengir as they can continue two live even when split into two. The most effective way to eliminate them is by throwing them into the vacuum of space.
As you can imagine, these powerful creatures are very bad news for the Jedi and the Republic. The Drengir are so dangerous that Avar Kriss makes an alliance with the Hutt Cartel.
The threat of the Nihil
Phase II introduced Marda Ro, an Evereni girl who took over the Path of the Open Hand and took their ideals to the extreme, eventually founding the Nihil. Marda’s daughter, Shalla Ro, took the title of the Eye of the Nihil and ruled them for a good part of her life until her own son, Asgar, killed her due to differences in their ideas of how to lead the Nihil.
As leader of the Nihil, Asgar Ro quickly expanded the power of the Nihil. However, there were constant struggles within the group. Eventually, Marchion Ro took the life of his father Asgar, and with it, the leadership and title of The Eye. While the Eye is the undisputable leader, the Tempest Runners are always plotting a way to gain more power.
Tempest Runners or Tempests, are the respective leaders of the three different factions of the Nihil. Their main goal is to raid and collect as many credits as possible to fund the ambitious plans of Marchion Ro. Pan Eyta, Lourna Dee, and Kassav Miliko are three Tempests that worked with Marchion Ro when he took over.
The alliance between the Tempests and Marchion Ro is based solely on the fact that all parties benefit from their deal. This is because Marchion Ro has Mari San Tekka, a force-sensitive woman who is capable of finding undiscovered routes in hyperspace.
This is how he managed to put an object in front of The Legacy Run. These routes allow Ro and The Nihil to bypass pretty much every security measure of the Republic and reach places faster than anyone. In exchange for their services, Ro grants the Tempest Runners access to these new hyperspace routes.
The Nihil can appear in a system, conduct their raids, and leave before the Republic can even get there. Marchion Ro might not have the combat experience of the Mandalorians or be able to use the Force like the Sith Empire but out of all the enemies The Republic has faced in their history, he is probably the most resourceful one.
The worst thing is that Marchion Ro doesn’t pursue riches, influence, or power. He’s just an instrument to create and promote as much chaos as possible, and he loves it.
Discovery of Tanalorr
Dagan Gera was a young and promising Jedi who managed to navigate the deadly Koboh Abyss and discover Tanalorr. Tanalorr is a beautiful planet highly attuned to the Force.
Gera wanted to use Tanalorr as training grounds and a safe haven for the Jedi in the Outer Rim but his plans were frustrated after the Jedi Council decided to abandon Tanalorr when the Nihil attacked.
This decision angered Dagan and made him turn to the dark side. He killed fellow Jedi before being stopped by Santari Khri and being put into stasis for two hundred years. These events are described in more detail in Jedi Survivor.
Vernestra Rwoh’s test
A young prodigy called Vernestra Rwoh got her first official assignment as a newly knighted Jedi Knight. Her task was to be the protector of Avon Starros and her droid J-6. Starros was an aspiring inventor and daughter of Republic Senator Ghirra Starros.
Jedi Master Douglas Sunvale requested Avon and Vernestra to join him and his Padawan Imri Cantaros aboard the Steady Wing, a republic ship in charge of taking a Dalnan delegation to the Starlight Beacon ceremony. This included Ambassador Weft and his son Honesty.
Vernestra has a strange dream about having a lightsaber that turns into a lightwip. With the help of Avon, she is able to modify her lightsaber and turn it into a unique weapon. That is, without saying anything to either Master Sunvale or her former master Stellan Gios.
Shortly after departing from Port Haileap, the Steady Wing blew up. Vernestra, Honesty, Cantaros, and Avon were separated from the rest. Without any option left, they managed to escape the ship before it exploded, leaving no survivors. Imri lost his Master while Honesty lost his family.
With the help of Imri, Vern is able to locate a moon with life in it. The group crashes and stumbles upon two Nihil pirates. In their anger, Imri and Honesty sneak out during at night and attempt to kill the experienced enemies but they are subdued and captured.
Vernestra, J-6, and Avon head to rescue them but Imri ends up fighting Vernestra when she doesn’t let him kill one of the Nihil. The two have a duel that Imri loses very quickly.
A few days later, Jedi Masters Sskeer and Keeve Trennis would find the missing group. After they reached the Starlight Beacon, Imri apologized for his behavior. Vern not only accepted his apologies but also took him as her new and first Padawan.
The Starlight Beacon’s ceremony
The Starlight Beacon is a massive space station built in the Outer Rim, right at the center of the unexplored zones. The purpose of this station was to serve as a beacon and guide travelers along the dangerous space.
Apart from its practical purposes, the Starlight Beacon also served as a symbol of the power, prosperity, and unity of the Galactic Republic.
This massive station could work as a military base, communication center, research facility, market, hospital, and cultural center. Additionally, it had a very strong defense force provided by the Republic Defense Coalition.
Nothing in the galaxy could represent the culturally diverse people of the Republic better than the Starlight Beacon while also being a military statement by itself. Building such a thing took a lot of effort, resources, time, and money.
The inauguration ceremony of the Starlight Beacon was planned a few days after the Great Disaster. People wondered if said ceremony would be delayed due to the Hetzal incident and its replications across the galaxy but Chancellor Soh didn’t postpone it. In fact, she felt that the ceremony would provide hope and certainty to all the citizens.
The ceremony was filled with thousands of people including Nobles, politicians, businessmen, contractors, merchants, and common citizens. Obviously, the Jedi Order sent many of its most prominent members. From younglings to Grand Masters, even Yoda attended the event.
The purpose of this ceremony was to announce the expansion efforts of the Republic across the Outer Rim with the Starlight Beacon serving as the base of operations.
Troubling Visions
After the Starlight Beacon’s ceremony, Elzar Mann is continuously haunted by a vision of many Jedi being killed by what he describes as a cloud. This includes two of his colleagues and closest friends, Stellan Gios and Avar Kriss.
It doesn’t help that he and Avar had conflicting feelings for each other. On one hand, they care deeply for each other, more than just two fellow colleagues but they are both committed to the Jedi Order and we all know what that means.
The troubling vision is full of painful and gruesome images and his mixed feelings prevent him from finding clarity when trying to interpret these visions. But after many tries, he is finally able to make sense of it, at least partially. Out of the vision, he can distinguish a single word: Valo.
Marchion’s Deception
The Republic eventually found out that the Nihil were responsible for the Great Disaster. Such a mysterious and devastating power can’t be in the hands of such a violent group. This is when they decide to capture or eliminate them.
Let’s remember that while they work very close, the Jedi are independent from the Republic. This means that even if the Republic goes to war against the Nihil, that’s not equivalent to the Jedi joining them on the battlefield.
Marchion Ro reunites with the three Tempest Runners to discuss the future plans. Kassav, one of the three Tempests challenges Ro’s authority but is quickly subdued in combat.
Ro knows that the Jedi are the biggest threat to his plan. Them joining the Republic to fight against the Nihil isn’t the hardest thing to anticipate so he formulates a plan that will have multiple benefits.
He sends Kassav and his entire forces to the Kur Nebula to face off against the Jedi and Republic army. Unexpectedly, The Nihil uses tactics that are deemed dirty and dishonorable.
As the Republic pushes back, Kassav asks Marchion for Battle Paths. These engines allow the Nihil to move through more efficient hyperspace routes. But what the Tempest doesn’t suspect is that everything was set up by Marchion Ro. The promised weapons are sabotaged.
Kassav will be a martyr for the Nihil, Marchion Ro gets rid of an untrusting ally and the Jedi believe to have defeated the Nihil. Everything works perfectly for Ro.
In the chaos of the battle, Jedi Master Loden Greatstorm is captured by Lourna Dee, another Tempest Runner. Master Greatstorm is taken to the Gaze Electric, where he finds out that Marchion Ro is behind everything.
Shortly after that, Marchion Ro tests the abilities of his nameless monsters on Loden Greatstorm. With the Rod of Power in his hands, he is able to control the ultimate Jedi killers.
Supreme Chancellor Lina Soh believes that the Nihil threat has been eliminated so she decides to reopen the Outer Rim and have a fair now that the Republic is free of danger. Or so she thinks…
Alliance with the Hutts
Together, multiple Jedi and Hutt forces fought the Drengir on different systems until they eventually located the Great Progenitor, the first Drengir to ever exist. The combined efforts of these two groups made the capture of the Great Progenitor possible.
Myarga Anijiliac Atirue, the Hutt leader, wanted to kill the Great Progenitor but Avar Kriss prevented her from doing so. Instead, Avar put the Drengir in stasis and took it to the Starlight Beacon where it would be temporarily stored before taking it to the Republic. With the Great Progenitor asleep, the other Drengir entered a state of hibernation.
The Nihil Strike Back
Supreme Chancellor Soh is very invested in uniting the galaxy under the Republic’s banner. After defeating the Nihil on the Kur Nebula, the Republic has a false sense of security. They invite thousands of people from dozens of systems to the Republic Fair celebrated in Valo.
Elzar Mann, Stellan Gios, and Bell Zettifar are some of the Jedi invited to the event as ambassadors. The attendees of this important event aren’t only Jedi or civilians, high-ranking politicians are also on Valo. This includes Supreme Chancellor Lina-Soh herself.
Marchion Ro prepared for this and his attack on the fair was relentless. After a small group of Jedi restored the communications, the tide of the battle turned in favor of the Jedi. Stellan Gios and Elzar Mann were key elements in defending the attendees of the fair.
An image of Stellan Gios carrying a wounded Lina Soh is transmitted across the galaxy, earning him the respect and admiration of thousands.
A former Jedi named Ty Yorrick abandoned the Order to become a Saber for Hire. She was working with a mysterious stranger when the Nihil attack took place. Yorrick joined a group of Padawans and fought against the Nihil. After the battle, she decides to return to the Jedi Order.
Despite the overwhelming attack, the Jedi were able to hold their defenses and eventually repel the Nihil, but many people died in the attack. The Jedi became overconfident in their past victory against the Nihil and thousands of innocents paid the ultimate price for their arrogance.
The attack on Valo almost broke both the Jedi and Republic and it certainly made them doubt their ability to win the war.
However, the Jedi had a “second victory” that went unnoticed. Lourna Dee and Pan Eyta, the two Tempest Runners who led the attack on Valo, never stopped trying to figure out a way to overthrow Marchion Ro.
They know that the balance of power is very fragile, and being smart enough could give them a real opportunity to overthrow him. But since they failed, it is obvious that their plans to take over the Nihil became impossible. This also fractured the Nihil army even more. It might not be a complete Republic victory, but it’s at least a way to buy some time.
It’s important to point out that Avar Kriss and other Jedi were absent from the fair because they hadn’t returned from their mission to capture the Great Progenitor.
A Gravity Weapon
Sylvestri Yarrow is a young woman who lost her mother, Chancey Yarrow, in a Nihil attack. She inherited her mother’s ship and used it to work as a trader. On one of her journeys, her ship was pulled out of hyperspace, something that many would deem impossible. Yet, it happened.
Shortly after that, Syl and her crew were attacked by Nihil pirates. They were barely able to escape. Syl goes to Coruscant to warn the Republic about this new Nihil tactic but she is ignored by almost everyone. A very excentric man called Xylan Graf approached her with a proposal.
Graf comes from an extremely wealthy family who made their name by tracing hyperspace routes, they are the biggest competition of the San Tekkas. Graf’s plan is to reclaim a sector that used to belong to the San Tekkas. He offers Syl a load of credits and a new ship if she agrees to help and lie for him.
While this happens, Marchion Ro designates Lourna Dee to work on a gravity heart projector. The object that is capable pull ships out of hyperspace.
Vernestra Rwoh and her Padawan Imri Cantaros are joined by Rwoh’s friend and still Padawan Reath Silas. Rwoh is requested back at Coruscant by a Senator. Reluctantly, the three return to the Republic’s capital.
Vernestra tends to have very strange dreams when traveling through hyperspace, something that is very rare, even among Jedi. While heading to Coruscant she dreams about a desert planet and a mysterious cubic item that a mysterious voice is telling her to take.
After waking up, the pilot of the ship informed Rwoh, Imri, and Reath that a Jedi Temple located on the planet Tiikae had requested help to defend from Nihil attacks. They leave immediately to assist them. Rwoh recognizes the place from her recent dream.
With the help of the local authority, the three Jedi defeated the Nihil. Vernestra finds the cube with odd runes on the sides and decides to take it.
Xylan wants the before-mentioned space sector and to do this he must convince Senator Ghirra Starros. She is reluctant to take any decisions before sending anyone to investigate if the Nihil is active in the zone. Starros designate Cantaros and Rwoh to join the group. Xylan is displeased by having two extremely young Jedi so Imri and Master Vitus tag along.
Rwoh senses that Graf and Starros are playing a game and she is one of the pieces. Being part of a political game angers the young Jedi Knight but since she has to follow orders there is not much she can do other than stay alert and not trust either side.
Before reaching the destination, the Jedi realized that Graf took them to his family compound. In this massive space station they are ambushed by Nihil led by none other than Chancey Yarrow. Syl’s mother is not only alive but in charge of the gravity heart that has been pulling ships out of hyperspace.
All four Jedi breath a paralyzing gas and stunned briefly after. When Rwoh wakes up, she learns that Reath Silas and Imri Cantaros were kidnapped by the Nihil. The Grafs claim that they were no part of the ambush but the pieces don’t fit. Rwoh also has another dream where Mari San Tekka dies aboard an unknown ship.
Vernestra figures that the strange runes on the cubic item are coordinates. She travels to these coordinates, which is the actual location of the Nihil’s gravity’s heart. Rwoh boards the main ship where she finds what is left of Mari San Tekka. The old lady gives Vern a path right before she passes away. This path is a route into uncharted space territory.
Republic ships arrive and start bombarding the Nihil’s gravity heart. It turns out that the Grafs were allied with the Nihil in order to acquire benefits for their business. With the gravity heart destroyed and their treason exposed, the Grafs face nothing but ruin.
The Grafs give info to the Republic which makes them believe that Lourna Dee is the head of all Nihil.
Vernestra hides the info of the path from the other Jedi with the exception of Imri.
Chancey Yarrow, Lourna Dee, and the Graf Matriarch start an alliance to get rid of Marchion Ro and the Nihil loyal to him. Despite the destruction of the gravity heart, they have enough data to make a new and improved version.
Avar’s inner darkness
Even after engaging in multiple battles, the Jedi and Republic know almost nothing about the Nihil. Marchion Ro has been hiding in the shadows and will continue to do so until the perfect moment.
On the other hand, Lourna Dee, one of the three Tempest Runners has been seen multiple times leading the Nihil legions into battle. Logically, they believe that she is the mind behind everything.
After the vicious attack on the Republic Fair, Avar Kriss starts to get obsessed with Lourna Dee. She gets extremely impatient and demands immediate action to be taken against the female Twi’lek. As usual, the High Council refuses to do anything hasty. This bothers Avar so much that she defies their direct orders.
If the Council is not willing to take action, she will. Avar Kriss, Keeve Trenis, and other Jedi abandon Starlight Beacon and go into Nihil territory to hunt down the alleged Nihil leader.
As Marshal of the Starlight Beacon, her top priority should have been to guard the station but instead, she let her rage take over and guide her actions.
Avar and Keeve find Lourna they both fight the Tempest Runner. Needless to say, Avar cuts Lourna’s hand and is about to strike her unarmed enemy when Keeve stands in front of her. She knows what path awaits Kriss if she strikes Lourna down.
After a small fight between the two Jedi, the Twi’lek is handcuffed and imprisoned in the Ataraxia, Avar’s ship. One of the most renowned Jedi almost made an irreparable mistake, she might have come back to her senses but the seeds of darkness are already planted.
It will be up to Avar to prevent herself from falling into the dark side but with what’s coming next the task is going to be everything but simple.
The fall of Starlight Beacon
Even if the attack on Valo was a huge blow to the Republic and the Jedi, that doesn’t mean that people on other systems are free of danger. The Starlight Beacon moved across the galaxy to help and house the civilians of the planets that Marchion Ro systematically ordered to attack.
While on a meditation exercise with Orla Jareni, Elzar Mann is summoned to escort two prisoners who are being taken to the Starlight Beacon: Chancey Yarrow and Nan. They claim to no longer be a part of the Nihil but the Jedi do not believe them.
Stellan Gios became the new Marshal of the Starlight Beacon after Avar Kriss left to hunt down Lourna Dee, the person everyone believed to be the head of the Nihil. He is also informed that the station is heading up to Eiram, to assist with a cyclone disaster.
Bell Zetiffar, Burryaga, Indeera Stokes, and Nib Assek also return to the Starlight Beacon after a successful mission.
Marchion Ro attacks many systems simultaneously while trying to steal a fleet of ships from Corellia. The numerous attacks increase the number of refugees that the Starlight Beacon grants asylum to.
With so many civilians arriving each day at the Starlight Beacon, it’s impossible to verify all the identities of the civilians on board. A group of three Nihil saboteurs infiltrate the station with the intention of disrupting multiple key systems.
They also secretly release a Nameless creature that disrupts the connection to the Force of every Jedi on the station.
Every Jedi on the station can feel that something isn’t right. There’s an increasing disturbance that no one can identify. Jedi Orla and Reginald Cold do a quick search but they are unable to find anything.
Stellan continues to have dark dreams. He shares it with Orla and his close friend Elzar Mann. The three of them can feel that the unsettling sensation becomes stronger near the cargo bay.
The three Nihil saboteurs find out that Nan and Chancey Yarrow are in the Starlight Beacon. In order to create a bigger distraction they decide to free the two prisoners. Then, they proceed to head to the Starlight Beacon’s core.
In a shocking twist, it is revealed that Senator Ghirra Starros is actually an informant who reports directly to Marchion Ro.
Reginald, Indeera, and Orla team up to investigate the cargo hold of the station. Reginald is attacked and turned into a husk. Indeera is also badly injured but thankfully, she didn’t suffer the same fate as Reginald Cold and Loden Greatstorm.
The Nihil saboteurs detonate an explosive in the main reactor. This basically means that the fate of the Starlight Beacon is sealed. It’s just a matter of time before the station explodes or crashes, regardless of what happens, the mission is successful.
The idea is that no one, including the Nihil infiltrators, can leave the Starlight Beacon before it gets destroyed. When Nan and Chancey Yarrow learn about the suicide mission they freak out.
With communications failing, the hangar bay doors sealed, and multiple areas isolated from the rest due to radiation, panic quickly starts taking over everyone. The Starlight Beacon is being pulled by Eiram’s gravity and it’s just a matter of hours before they crash on the planet.
In the middle of the panic, Orla decides that she will go hunt whatever killed Reginald. Sadly, she’s also turned into a husk after suffering a painful and agonizing death. Burryaga and Zell are told by Elzar Mann about the other Jedi who went missing when investigating the strange disturbance, they decide to take on this task themselves.
After restoring long-range communications, Stellan Gios is able to reach the Jedi Council. The help is on the way but they’re so far that is unlikely anyone will be able to help before it’s too late. Marchion Ro’s plan was to lure the Starlight Beacon into a location where no one could reach them quickly.
Starlight Beacon is broken into two main pieces. The Medical Tower with Elzar Mann and Stellan Gios starts falling into one of the main cities of Eiram while the top half is probably going to end up being burned in the atmosphere.
With the imminent threat to Eiram’s population, Eiram’s Queen informs Gios that she might have to shoot the station to avoid any more casualties.
Bell and Burryaga find the remains of more Jedi, including Burryaga’s Master. Both start feeling the effects of the Nameless creature but are able to get away before it becomes lethal.
With ships even trapped inside the hangar, civilians start to contemplate the idea of using their own weapons to blast a hole and use it as an escape route. This is obviously a very dangerous plan that could cause more harm.
Elzar’s alternative to this is to use a system that allows the Starlight Beacon’s walls to reconfigure. Doing so would allow all ships to escape without risking a massive explosion.
Additionally, Elzar could get to the other side of the station where the positional thrusters are located. This is key if he wishes to stop the station from crashing into a city.
But before Elzar can do any of this, Burry and Bell have to clear a path. A task that becomes significantly harder when a bunch of Rathars get loose in the cargo bay. They are forced to retreat to think of a new plan.
Bell manages to build a small explosive device that separates the medical tower from Starlight Beacon. An Eiram medical frigate docks into the tower, securing the integrity of all patients, including Bell’s Master, Indeera Stokes.
Elzar and Burryaga return to fight the Rathars, Burryaga is taken away. Elzar Mann is able to use the Force and open the doors of the cargo bay temporarily, allowing some civilians to escape. However, Burryaga is pulled into space and he is presumed dead.
During all these chaos, Lourna Dee and other Nihil prisoners aboard the Ataraxia are able to break out of their cells, take control of the ship, and escape into an unknown destiny.
Chancey Yarrow and Nan are able to find some suits that will protect them from the radiation. Their plan is to reach the positional thrusters, unlike the Nihil saboteurs, they have no plans for dying aboard the Starlight Beacon.
The Gaze Electric arrives on Eiram, Marchion Ro witnesses his master plan unfold before his eyes. Republic ships also arrive at the scene but at this point, there is nothing they can do but watch and hope for a miracle.
When Elzar Mann finally reaches the thrusters, he sees Chancey Yarrow and Nan messing with them. Because of their past alliance with the Nihil and the current situation, Elzar thinks that they are trying to sabotage the station even more.
Without hesitation, Elzar ignites his lightsaber and murders Chancey Yarrow in cold blood by splitting her in two. Moments before she was able to bring back the thrusters to work.
Shortly after, people onboard are told that they are past the altitude in which the thrusters would work. The Starlight Beacon is going to crash and no one can stop that from happening.
Stellan Gios arrives at the scene and tells Elzar to get out of here. He complies thinking that Stellan would follow him but instead, Stellan stays behind to use the positional thrusters and move the Starlight Beacon away from the city that’s under it.
What remains of the Starlight Beacon crashes into the ocean. The Jedi who escaped witness how the mighty symbol of the republic is destroyed after they failed to protect it. Stellan Gios and everyone still on board dies, but the people of Eiram are saved.
Avar and Elzar find out that Stellan stayed behind. Bell makes a promise to find Burryaga. Marchion Ro makes a broadcast announcing that he is the Eye of the Nihil. As you can imagine, the loss of Starlight Beacon and its implications are a massive hit for all the Jedi and the Republic.
The destruction of the Starlight Beacon marks the dramatic end of Phase I of The High Republic. The Republic is in shambles and Marchion Ro still has many tricks under his sleeve. The worst is certainly yet to come.
At the time of writing this article Phase III is still ongoing. We will publish it soon and continue to update it when new stories come out.
