How to get the Stormdancer’s Set in Avowed: Overview and Stats

This guide will show you what the Stormdancer’s set looks like, what Unique Effects it provides, and how to get it in Avowed!

How Armor and Clothing work in Avowed

Armor sets in Avowed are comprised of 3 pieces called the Armor and Clothing (Hands and Feet). Armor and Clothing occupy different slots and have vastly different impacts on combat. Some sets also have a Ring or Trinket associated with them.

Each piece of Unique gear, whether it be the Armor or Clothing, comes with 2 perks comes. Some armor pieces are part of a set by sharing the same name, and while the effect sets tend to synergize with each other and a specific build, there are no set bonuses.

You can find outfit pieces as loot from chests and corpses, purchase them from Merchants, or receive them as mission rewards. The sets as a whole are always located in the same region.

You can replace the visual appearance of any outfit item with another one. This feature is commonly known as transmog, though this game doesn’t allow you any specific modifications beyond the simple swap of one item’s appearance with another.

Armor

Armor is the primary piece of gear and the only one that’s upgradeable. It has defensive stats and weight class restrictions and cosmetically changes the appearance of the Envoy’s chest, arms, and legs.

Armor weight is classified as light, medium, or heavy, and this classification determines the Damage Reduction % along with the maximum Stamina and Essence penalties.

In reality, there are 8 different stat variations based on the weight and protection afforded by distinct types of real armor. There are a couple of mismatches, but terms in parentheses below are representative of the associated stats.

For example, Gambeson always refers to Light Armor with 8% Damage Reduction and -15 Stamina /-20 Essence.

Weight ClassificationDamage ReductionStamina PenaltyEssence Penalty
Light (Robe)5%-20-10
Light (Gambeson)8%-15-20
Light (Cuirass)10%-20-20
Medium (Scale)15%-25-35
Medium (Breastplate)18%-35-30
Medium (Mail)20%-35-35
Heavy (Brigandine)25%-45-45
Heavy (Plate)30%-50-50

As you can see, the lower the Damage Reduction %, the lower the maximum Stamina and Essence penalties.

These stats remain constant regardless of upgrade tier, but upgrading Armor is still important, but doing so only increases the additional flat damage reduction, not the percentage or penalties.

You’ll also take more damage and deal less against enemies depending on the difference in Quality tier, reaching +/-35% damage taken/dealt when there is a difference of 4 Quality tiers, ex. Fine (blue) +2 weapon vs Exceptional (purple) +3 armor.

Clothing

Clothing consists of handware and footwear. They have no defensive stats or weight class associated with them and take the form of things like gloves, bracers, and shoes to alter the cosmetic appearance of your hands and feet. Unlike Armor, Clothing is not upgradeable.

Where to find Stormdancer’s set

You can obtain the entire Stormdancer’s set from at the end of the quest “Heart of Valor” in Shatterscarp, originating in Thirdborn if you get Chiko to understand what Keipo wants.

You can only get this armor set if you learn Keipo’s secret about who killed the Leviathan and make specific dialogue choices to tell Chiko the whole truth at every opportunity. Make Chiko understand why Keipo is doing this.

  1. Learn that Keipo has the Dreamscourge by reading a journal in his house
  2. Discover the Weathered Journal at the Sand Sea Ruins BEFORE speaking to Chiko
  3. Tell Chiko about the journal when you speak to them at the Sand Sea Ruins
  4. Defend Keipo’s decision to take his own life OR be straight with Chiko about Keipo wanting to go out on his own terms and protect Chiko from the Dreamscourge

It does not matter if you choose to give Keipo the Heart of the Leviathan, keep it for yourself, or hand it over to Tira Nui Hajime. You will get Umpara’s Spear if you give Keipo the Heart and will get the Heart of the Leviathan Trinket if you don’t.

However, you can get locked out of telling the town the truth if you don’t inform Tira Nui Hajime about the contents of the Weathered Journal or the Dreamscourge at the earliest opportunity during the conversation.

Hajime will dip out immediately once he hears this is about ol’ Granddaddy Keipo trying to commit suicide unless he learns there’s something pertinent to the rest of Thirdborn, like the Dreamscourge. Be careful about using origin story dialog choices if you gave the Leviathan Heart to Keipo.
