What you should know before watching Andor Season 2

Be ready for the upcoming Season 2 of Andor: Release date, format of the show, and a recap of the key moments from Season 1.

Season 2 release date and format

Season 2 of Andor releases on April 22, 2025. The format for this series will be something completely different from what we have seen before with any other Star Wars series.

Like the first season, Andor is going to have a total of twelve episodes. It’s going to be divided into four arcs, with each arc happening across three episodes.

However, for this season, instead of one episode per week, we will get three episodes (one arc) per week. Each one of these arcs will happen a year apart from each other, culminating in a tie-in to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. It’s going to feel like a movie week for an entire month!

There are positive and negative things about this depending on the perspective. We won’t be left on a massive cliffhanger before the final episode of each arc but this also means that the duration of the series is heavily reduced. It’s unclear why they decided to have this approach but for better or worse, it’s going to be a completely new experience.

Returning characters include Vel Sartha, Luthen Rael, Cinta, Bix, Brasso, Wilmon Paak, Dedra Meero, Syril Karn, and Saw Gerrera. Additionally, Ben Mendelsohn and Alan Tudyk are reprising their roles as Director Orson Krennic and K-2SO respectively.

Season 1 Recap

Watching the entire first season is something that not everybody might be able to do. If that’s the case for you, here’s a summary of what happens in the first season of Andor.

The Morlana incident

The first episode starts with Cassian Andor looking for her sister in a shady establishment. Two officers who weren’t supposed to be there tried to intimidate Cassian but it backfired and he ended up killing them both.

This triggered an investigation from the Preox-Morlana Corporation, the security company that employed the deceased enforcers. Led by Syril Karn, the investigation led to Cassian Andor and Ferrix, his homeworld.

Cassian was able to steal Imperial technology, which was worth a lot of money. With the help of Bix Caleen, Cassian contacts a mysterious buyer who happens to be an Imperial Senator named Luthen Rael.

The two end up meeting on Ferrix but they are interrupted by Syril Karn and a small group of Morlana Corps who went there to arrest Cassian. Luthen and Cassian escape the planet, but the encounter costs the lives of many Morlana officers.

Premor corpos

Luthen convinces Cassian to join a small team that is going to attempt one hell of a heist. The objective? the quarterly payroll of a whole Imperial Sector.

Heist of Aldhani

After the disaster of Ferrix, Syril Karn is fired and the Empire takes over the security in that sector. Karn is forced to return to his mother’s home. She calls a family member to ask for a favor. This allows Karn to work at the Empire in a boring office job.

Mon Mothma meets Luthen Rael at his antique shop. This business serves as a front for what both of them are secretly planning. While the two of them aren’t completely aware of each other plan, they’re still working together to undermine the Galactic Republic.

Mothma and Luthen

This is incredibly risky, especially since the Imperial Security Bureau (ISB) has increased the number of spies watching all Imperial Senators.

Cassian meets Vel, Cinta, Nemik, Skeen, Taramyn, and Lieutenant Gorn. After a few days of scouting and tuning up some details, the group begins their impossible task.

Cassian meets the rebel group on Aldhani

With the odds against them, they manage to pull off the heist but not without facing their own losses. Gorn, and Taramyn die in a shootout with the Imperial troops.

Nemik is injured during their escape so they head to a doctor. While waiting, Skeen suggests that he and Cassian Andor flee with the payload. Andor shoots him and takes his cut before leaving. Nemik sadly passes away.

The aftermath

What happened at Aldhani triggered a reaction in all layers of the Imperial Government. Every crime or suspicion of it would be heavily punished. Dedra Meero, a fresh ISB Supervisor understands that this isn’t an isolated incident and starts to investigate all the Imperial equipment which has been stolen.

Dedra Meero

Cassian returns to Ferrix, where he learns that the town is now under Imperial occupation. Meanwhile, Vel is tasked with finding and eliminating Cassian. He is the only loose end that the Empire can use to track the Aldhani heist back to Luthen.

Mon Mothma continues her efforts to raise funds for the cause but with the recent events, it becomes almost impossible to access her family funds without raising questions.

She resorts to a childhood friend who happens to be a banker. After a small exchange of questions, she lets him know of her intentions. At least enough to make it clear that she is not a friend of the Empire.

Senator Tay and Mothma

Cassian leaves everyone behind, including Maarva and Bix. With all that money he is able to have a new start. His planet of choice is Niamos.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t last long. He is wrongly accused by a Shore Trooper of being a criminal and with the recent changes to the “law”, Cassian is immediately captured, sentenced, and sent to prison.

Narkina V

Cassian gets sent to Narkina V, a prison built on an ocean. This intricate facility houses hundreds of prisoners who are used as labor to build parts for something they obviously don’t know about.

Narkina 5 view from the outside

Cassian never accepts his fate and immediately starts figuring out the weak spots of the facility. Kino Loy, the manager of Andor’s prisoner group refuses to provide any information because his sentence is ending in less than a year.

There are multiple blocks of prisoners, they can briefly talk to each other when there’s a change of shift. An entire block of prisoners is electrocuted after they find out that someone who was being released only got changed to a different floor.

Word about the execution gets out and the doctor of the facility (another inmate) confirms this to Kino and Cassian.

Kino Loy

With confirmation that no one is getting out, the two develop a plan to get out of this prison. They are able to take over the prison and escape. Kino Loy can’t swim so he stays behind while Cassian swims to a close shore with another inmate and future rebel, Ruescott Melshi.

Meanwhile in the rest of the galaxy…

During the time Cassian was on Narkina V, many things happened. Maarva felt really sick and Bix tried to contact Cassian. Her message is intercepted by both Luthen and the ISB. Maarva passes away before Cassian returns to Ferrix.

Bix Brasso

Syril Karn is persistent about Andor and tries to collect information about him. This catches the attention of Dedra Meero, who questions him.

Mon Mothma meets with Davo Sculdun, a banker from Chandrila who she despises. Ironically, he could be the man who could help her to access her family funds. Before doing any “business”, Davo asks Mothma to let her daughter meet Davo’s son.

Davo Sculdun

Davo’s intention is for his son to marry Mon’s daughter, as the Chandrilan tradition permits it. Mon hates the idea, but she is desperate and ends up accepting Sculdun’s petition.

It is revealed that ISB Supervisor Jung has been secretly working for Luthen Rael for six years. In that time he has climbed the ladder and gained significant intel and power inside the Empire.

Lonni and Luthen

Ferrix liberation

Dedra arrives at Ferrix, knowing that Cassian is very likely to return soon. She starts torturing people to get answers about her fugitive, including Paak and Bix. Paak is never seen again.

Cassian returns discreetly but his cover is blown by Nurchi, who hopes to get rewarded in exchange for delivering him to the Empire.

Maarva was a beloved member of the community, her funeral is a big deal and everyone attends. This includes Dedra Meero and all Imperial troops stationed on Ferrix.

Maarva's message

A recording of Maarva plays out. It is a touching and powerful speech that reminds everyone how scary but important is to fight back against tyranny. As expected, things get violent and the Imperials eventually start shooting at the civilians.

In the chaos, Dedra gets beat and almost killed by an enraged mob but she is saved by Syril Karn.

Cassian rescues Bix, he takes her to a ship where Brasso and a few others are already waiting. After the ship leaves, he goes to the place where Luthen’s ship is stationed and tells him to either kill him or take him in.

This is how the first season ends, with Cassian Andor fully committing to the cause and being willing to die for it.

Expectations and hints from the trailers

While this season is going to focus on the rebel effort, it will also be a huge moment for Mon Mothma. Thanks to the Special Look that was released, we know that the Ghorman Massacre is going to happen on-screen. This is a turning point for her and the rebel effort.

If you’re a big fan of politics in Star Wars, I highly recommend that you also read Reign of the Empire: The Mask of Fear. This novel written by Alexander Freed happens six months after Order 66. It revolves around Mon Mothma and the difficulties of being a politician who is against everything that Palpatine represents.

Reading this novel isn’t necessary by any means, but if you decide to do so it’s very likely that you’ll appreciate Mon Mothma’s character a lot more. She is without a doubt one of the most underrated and overlooked characters in Star Wars.
