Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Path of Secrets and Yamato Assassin Outpost

Adrian by Adrian|

The Path of Secrets is a parkour challenge for Naoe, located in the Yamato region in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. It leads to the Yamato Assassin Outpost where Naoe discovers more of Kakushiba ikki’s history. The rewards are Sumire’s Hood headgear and a Knowledge Point.

What are the Hidden Trails

Hidden Trails are linear traversal challenges in the open world where Naoe has to parkour a difficult terrain from the starting point to the end, where a treasure chest awaits.

Several of the Paths are part of The Assassins story arc for Naoe where she discovers the secrets of the Assassin’ Creed in Japan and her own family’s past and role in all of this.

The Hidden Trails are labeled on the map with red markers and their names start with “Path of …”. You can complete them at any point. There is no combat involved on these Paths (except at the Kii Assassin Outpost). The gear piece you receive in the end, will usually try to match the current level of your character.

There are several visual guides for you to follow to make sure you are staying on the proper path:

  1. Candles
  2. Flags
  3. Painted markings on the rocks

How to start the Path of Secrets

The Path of Secrets starts southwest of Katsuragi, in Yamato. There is a Kakurega you could unlock in Katsuragi. The closest Viewpoint is south of the Path’s starting point – Mizumi Pagoda.

Path of Secrets Walkthrough

Walk past the lamp post that you’ll see from the starting point, you’ll stumble upon a broken bridge. Use Naoe’s hook to get to the other side.

The road will take you to another segment which has no bridge. Jump to the big that’s ahead and then use Naoe’s hook to get to the other side. Climb the wall that’s just a few meters away.

Reminder: Jump off the hook when you are arriving at the high point of your swing to make the perfect transition or Naoe might slip and fall.

After a few seconds, you’ll see what looks like a dead-end with some bamboo. Cut the bamboo and slide between the small gap that divides the wall. Once that’s done you’ll find yourself going uphill.

There’s a twisted tree right ahead of you, climb to the top and continue moving through this linear segment. Even if it’s snowing you should be able to see the yellow markers that indicate the path.

The path ends abruptly, there aren’t any yellow markers here but all you have to do is climb the wall. Despite how it may look, you only have to climb a few meters. More bamboo awaits ahead, just cut it like you previously did.

You’ll end up in a ledge with a huge tree that looks like it’s lying down. Jump on it and go to the second platform that’s straight ahead.

From this position, you’ll be able to spot the treasure chest. To get there all you have to do is use Naoe’s hook, jump into the water, and move forward. It contains Sumire’s Hood epic headgear. This will also complete the Hidden Trail Path of Secrets and reward you with a knowledge Point.

Yamato Assassin Outpost

A little further along the path, after the treasure chest, there is an abandoned Pagoda where Naoe will discover a letter from her mother Tsuyu revealing more of Kakushiba ikki’s secrets.

This is part of The Assassins quest chain for Naoe where she explores and reveals details from the past of the Assassin’s Creed in feudal Japan and learns more about her own family’s secrets.
