Assassin’s Creed Shadows Photo Mode Guide

This guide explains how to use Photo Mode in Assassin’s Creed Shadows and what tools it offers to take the best screenshots.

What is Photo Mode

Photo Mode is a tool that allows you to stop your game at any given point and take high-quality, customizable screenshots of the action or scene that you are watching without any UI elements.

Photo Mode as a feature has been around for quite some time, but every game has a slightly different approach to it.

How to use Photo Mode in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

To use Photo Mode in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, press F3 on your keyboard or Menu (hold) on controller. You can’t reassign that function to another button.

If you are trying it for the first time, I recommend that you go to a Viewpoint and jump from there. Then press F3 at any point you want. This is a very easy way to get a cool shot, as you’re about to see.

Photo Mode UI and Settings Overview

When you open Photo Mode, you will see the menu on the lower right side of the screen. You can take a screenshot at any time, this menu and the overlay will not be visible.

If you get annoyed by the UI and Menu showing up when finding the perfect angle you can hide them by pressing Preview, which is the space bar on PC.

There are four main sub-menus: Camera, Lens, Filters, and Decorations.

Camera

You can change the turn inclination, focal length, and grids that serve as a reference if you want a very specific type of photo. In this example, I wanted Naoe’s face to be at the center of the photo. Since she is falling I had to roll it two degrees to the right for it to be perfect.

Lens

Allows you to control the Aperture, Focal Distance, Depth of Field, and Auto-focus for those who want to make this as quick as possible. I decided that Naoe would look better at a further distance with the forest in the background blurred.

Filters

Basic filters change the picture by enhancing things like colors, and lighting. While FX Filters completely change the photo and give it a lot more intensity. My favorite one by a mile is the Ink Filter.

Decorations

This last option lets you do three things. The first one is applying a Vignette and changing both its size and intensity. The second one adds a frame and the third one lets you place a sticker.

For my picture, I used both the Vignette and a decorative frame but refrained from using a sticker. The result? An awesome photo that could very well be used for the game’s promotion.
