Are you short on Mon in Assassin’s Creed Shadows? Here you’ll find tips on how to go from the wealth of a lowly peasant to a mighty daimyo! Nothing will get between you and armor upgrades, hideout improvements, and unlocking kakuregas.
As you make progress in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, a wide variety of methods to collect mon will appear before you. Get ready to go from rags to riches by using tips from this guide!
Use the Contract Board
After you unlock the hideout, you’ll notice this little box inside the Kakurega building. This is the Contract Board and you’ll use this to pick up contracts for rewards. These are also available in any kakurega you unlock in the regions.
These objectives update every season, so check in on them regularly. They often have missions that require you to assassinate a target, loot a camp, or destroy some cargo. You’ll typically get hideout resources, crafting materials and experience in return.
Whenever you complete an objective and clear the camp, loot the place. There’s typically a valuables box that the leader was near, it’ll have some additional mon within.
Passive Income from Scouts
If you have any unused scouts before the end of the season, they’ll bring in mon and resources to the hideout at the start of the new season. This will be in a chest within the stables. You should get more scouts as early as possible to be more productive with your exploration and investigations.
You might be thinking, “I should refill all of my scouts before the end of the season to make more money!”. Don’t do this, you’ll lose money in the process.
While you bring in more mon with more available scouts, don’t expect more than a few hundred mon. This is supplementary income at best, but it’s still a source of income.
Take from the Rich
Taking from the rich and powerful is another good way to earn some mon. This could be from criminal camps, military forts, or castles. These are typically filled with hideout resources and chests containing valuable goods and mon.
When you check your map, you can look at any camp (red diamonds) or castle you’ve encountered so far. You can see the current wealth of the area as Low or High.
Places with high wealth will have more resources for you to loot. Gather every bit as it all counts towards increasing your mon.
Sell to Merchants
Selling things to merchants is one of the best ways to make a lot of mon, though this assumes you have a lot of excess.
You’ll sometimes pick up Valuables such as straw hats, combs, edamame, spinning tops, etc. These have no use to you and don’t sell for much, but they make for some quick cash if you need it.
Hands down, one of the best ways to get mon is to sell Hideout resources. If you’ve been stockpiling these from looting and completing Contract Board quests, then you’re set for a while. Sell excess wood, crops, or any other material you have too much of.
It’d be wise to upgrade your Hideout buildings with those resources first. If you don’t, you can’t spend mon to upgrade your equipment, train allies, refill scouts, or purchase decorations for your hideout.
Last you can sell any gear you don’t want. It could be armor, weapons, or amulets/trinkets, if you don’t need it then you can sell it.
Defeat Tough Opponents
A great way to get hundreds and maybe over a thousand mon is to defeat Ronin and Samurai Daisho. Ronin will hunt Naoe and Yasuke later on in the story and you’ll often find them travelling roads. Defeating them will get you several hundred mon or a valuable you can sell.
If you’re feeling very confident, go into a castle and fight the Samurai Daisho. While tough to beat, defeating them will get you a mastery point and a lot of mon.
Each castle has at least one of these, up to 5, so if you’re skilled enough, you can make some quick mon this way. Do note that they do not respawn when defeated.
Clearing Castles is a great resource for Mastery Points and Legendary (and other) gear as well. Be sure you have at least a few scouts available before you raid a castle. You can use them to smuggle stockpiles of resources back to the Hideout.
