Purpose of Kata in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
Kata gives Yasuke a chance to practice his martial arts with various weapons. Kata is an integral part to Japanese martial arts as it helps one perfect their movements and form.
In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Kata is a side activity for Yasuke. When completed, you’ll gain a Knowledge Point that can be used to unlock your talent trees and passive bonuses. Kata is one of seven possible activities you can gain Knowledge Points from:
Temples | |
Shrines | |
Kuji-kiri (for Naoe only)
Kata (for Yasuke only) | |
Horse Archery (for Yasuke only)
Kofun | |
Hidden Trail (for Naoe only) |
How to complete Kata
When you arrive at a Kata location, you’ll need to talk to an NPC and accept their training. Kata is a quick time event where you’ll have to press specific keys/button as they appear on the screen. You will need to tap a button (sometimes at specific times) or hold the button to make progress.
Don’t take too long nor rush into pressing buttons too soon during a kata. It requires your focus to complete successfully.
Kata is broken up into groups. If you make a mistake in a group of Kata combos, you’ll need to redo the group. Once all groups have been completed, you’ll complete the Kata and earn the knowledge point.
You can make Kata easier by changing your settings. Go to Options then Gameplay, and you’ll find Quick Time Events. It is normally set to default but you also have the following options:
- Simplified will reduce which buttons you need to press but you’ll still need to time your inputs at the right moment. It’s a lot easier to complete when you only need to press one button instead of several for a combo.
- Auto will have Yasuke complete the sequences without your input, allowing you to watch the Kata and get the Knowledge Point.
Switching this to Auto is one of our recommended settings to change. Maybe not right away, but after you complete a few events, it can feel boring and tedious to some players, so Ubisoft is providing an easy method.
Upon completing your first kata, you will unlock the Good Form achievement. There are 53 more achievements (trophies) in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
