Star Wars Tales of the Underworld Release Date and Trailer reveal

Adrian by Adrian|

The new short series, Tales of the Underworld, covers the lives of Cad Bane and Asajj Ventress. It will follow the Tales’ tradition of being released on May 4th.

The voice cast includes returning voice actors Nika Futterman (Asajj Ventress) and Corey Burton (Cad Bane) as well as Artt Butler, Lane Factor, AJ LoCascio, Clare Grant, Dawn-Lyen Gardner, and Eric Lopez. Dave Filoni is the creator and supervising director.

Just like with the previous series, Tales of the Underworld will have six episodes. Three for each character and all will be released at once.

A different side of Cad Bane

Cad Bane has always been an enigmatic character. He was introduced in the Clone Wars and while his appearances were brief compared to most other characters, he quickly became a beloved character.

Cad Bane reappears

Cad Bane is a calculated and cold hired gun, even when the circumstances are dire he never loses his cool and always has a trick under his sleeve. This man is capable of taking on the most difficult bounties of the galaxy and succeeding.

This trailer shows him looking for vengeance against an old friend who became a Marshal. That’s something we’ve never seen from this unnerving bounty hunter. He has always been a professional whose emotions don’t interfere with his job, so to learn that at one point in Bane’s life, he had this type of grudge against someone makes it very intriguing.

Cad Bane vs Marshal

I wonder if we will witness how he built his reputation as the best bounty hunter in the galaxy but what I’m most excited about is seeing him survive the shadow of the Galactic Empire.

Since Palpatine hired him to do many tasks during the Galactic Republic era, Bane is a loose end and that automatically puts him high on the priority list. Being hunted down by other bounty hunters and agencies like the ISB is certainly something to be afraid of.

As we saw in The Book of Boba Fett, he managed to outlive the Empire, which is an impressive achievement by itself but I’m sure it wasn’t easy, not even for Cad Bane.

The official trailer doesn’t show many notable locations but I believe that some of it happens in Duro, homeworld of Cad Bane and other members of the Duros species.

The showdown between him and the marshal happens in front of a building with an Aurebesh sign that says Police. I assume this is the main plot of Cad Bane’s arc but I’d definitely like to see what he does after having his revenge.

Ventress’ new path

Ventress made a surprising appearance in Season 3 of The Bad Batch. While satisfying, it left us wanting a lot more. Similar to what happened with Barris Offee before Tales of the Empire, Ventress fate has remained unclear for quite some time.

Ventress became a fan-favorite after years of appearing in Clone Wars. She has gone from Jedi, to Sith apprentice, to bounty hunter. She is definitely a complex character with an even more complicated story but she has managed to survive everything.

In the trailer, she is recognized by a man who reminds me of Admiral Yularen. He’s not the same man, but I think he is definitely military. I wonder if the reason for Ventress to look for him is the kid.

former republic military man

This kid has his own blue lightsaber, and seeing ships from the Republic makes me believe he is another survivor of Order 66. Ventress isn’t known for being the classic good samaritan but since her change of ways I doubt she is the kind of person that would leave a kid on his own, especially knowing what being Force-sensitive means under the rule of the Galactic Empire.

Ventress defends kid

I have never pictured Ventress as a Jedi Master, but all her experience could definitely prove useful to teach a young Padawan. The Inquisitor in front of them indicates that the Empire is already aware of them.

Inquisitor vs Ventress

As a result, the hunt will only end with their deaths or the Empire’s downfall. For better or worse, the destinies of Ventress and this mysterious young Jedi are now bound to each other.

Ventress and young Jedi

Hopefully, there is a lot more to what the official trailer showed. Ventress is one of those characters who I believe deserves a closing chapter in a series and not just in a book that many people won’t read. There is a lot of potential in her character and a story revolving around her would be nothing but fantastic.

Who knows, maybe we’ll hear some surprises during the upcoming Star Wars Celebration 2025 regarding Ventress and anything that could include her.
