The Mandalorian and Grogu and Star Wars Starfighter are the next Star Wars movies

Star Wars Celebration started very strong with the official release dates and final titles for the next Star Wars movies. Here’s what we learned at the panels.

The Mandalorian and Grogu

The Mandalorian and Grogu was announced a few years back, but today we finally learned more about it. The trailer shown exclusively to the attendees of the panel showed Din Djarin blasting multiple Snowtroopers inside an AT-AT, Zeb Orellios walking next to Din Djarin, and the first look of Sigourney Weaver as a pilot of the New Republic.

The Mandalorian and Grogu is coming out on May 22, 2026. Jon Favreau also confirmed that this is the last Star Wars Celebration before the release of the movie. There won’t be a Star Wars Celebration until 2027.

Star Wars: Starfighter

Earlier this year, a rumor stated that Ryan Gosling would star in Shawn Levy’s Star Wars film. Today we got the confirmation not only of that, but that the title is Star Wars: Starfighter. This is a standalone movie that starts filming in Fall of this year, and the release date is May 28, 2027.

In case you are not familiar with his work, he’s the director behind Deadpool and Wolverine, Arrival, and Night at the Museum, among others, and executive producer of Stranger Things. His work is very diverse, so it’s very exciting to think of all the possibilities.

Here’s what Ryan Gosling said when he joined Shawn Levy on stage:

This script is so good. It’s filled with so much heart and adventure and there just really is not a more perfect filmmaker for this particular story than Shawn.

I wonder if this is the replacement of the Star Wars: Rogue Squadron movie that was put on hold after Patty Jenkins left the project. With so little information, it’s impossible to know if it’s just a coincidence or not.

This is something that won’t go unnoticed by the fans, so I’m confident that someone will ask her that question directly in the not-too-distant future.

What about the other movies

You might remember other movie announcements from previous years. Most of them have not provided any recent updates, which leads us to believe that they are no longer happening. This wouldn’t be the first time that something like that happens.

At the end of the panel, Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that the Star Wars films directed by James Mangold (Dawn of the Jedi), Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (film starring Daisy Ridley as Rey), Taika Waititi, and a trilogy by Simon Kinberg (X-Men films) are all in active development. Though until we see a trailer, I’d take this with a grain of salt.
