Zero Company, the new Star Wars strategy game, was finally revealed on day two of Star Wars Celebration Japan. Here’s everything you need to know about it!
Star Wars: Zero Company is a brand-new single-player turn-based tactics game developed by Bit Reactor, Respawn Entertainment, and Lucasfilm Games. You will be in the shoes of Hawks, a former Republic officer and leader of an elite squad made up of very particular characters.
Zero Company is set in the Clone Wars era, but the twist of this game is that you are not fighting on behalf of the CIS or the Galactic Republic. Instead, your group are mercenaries trying to make a living. This means that you can go against both armies, which opens up many possibilities in terms of storytelling and gameplay.
Aaron Contreras, Cinematic and Narrative Director of the game, discussed the identity of the characters. Hawks is a disgraced Republic Officer who now leads the for-hire squad specialized in strategic investigations and high-risk tactical missions .
Hawks’ team includes a Phase I Clone Trooper who served with Hawks before he ruined his career. An Umbaran sniper who still has a grudge against the Republic for invading his homeworld. A Tognath Jedi Padawan, who is on a quest to finish his fallen Master’s final Mission and a Mandalorian who is seeking revenge.
Each of these characters have their own stories and personalities, which will dictate how they interact with each other, both in positive and negative ways. A small difference can escalate and have a negative impact on the entire team.
These are just the operatives that appear in the trailer, but players will be able to recruit more operatives and customize their squad while developing their own base of operations, and gather intelligence through a network of informants.
Each operative belongs to a class and has matching abilities; some of said characters are custom while others are authored for this game. Hawks’ combat class and abilities are fully customizable.
The game gives absolute freedom in terms of team-building. You can even go full astromech droid squad if that is what you want. Which, by the way, are also customizable.
As you progress through the game, your squad members will develop bonds that unlock combat synergies. This makes choosing the right characters an even more important matter.
If you want a challenging and immersive experience, then you’ll be happy to know that perma-death is available on certain difficulties.
The developers are working to create the most immersive galaxy map in a Star Wars game. Some of the places we’ll be able to go include Tatooine, Mapuzo, Champala, the Ring of Kafrene, Serolonis, and Vandor, among many others.
It’s important to note that some of the people involved in Zero Company have worked on Star Wars games like Battlefront II, Squadrons, Jedi: Fallen Order, Jedi: Survivor, Galaxy of Heroes, and The Old Republic.
The soundtrack of the game is composed by Gordy Haab. In case you are not familiar with his name, he is the man behind the music for Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor.
The official trailer is available on EA Star Wars YouTube channel.
Star Wars: Zero Company is coming in 2026 to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox.
