Secrets of Diablo 4: Luckier Coin and Ring of the Jinx Discovered

With the start of Season 8, a Luckier Coin has been discovered alongside the Ring of Jinx. The secret hunting in Diablo 4 continues!

The Wishing Well

Not familiar with the Wishing Well from the Wishing Well and Lucky Coin Secret? Here’s a quick refresher. There is a Wishing Well located in Scosglen, East of Cerrigar.

We can interact with this Well only with a Lucky Coin in our possession. If we do not possess a Lucky Coin, it will appear to be unassuming scenery.

Diablo 4 Wishing Well

Getting a Lucky Coin requires us to have a Lucky Hit Chance (a minimum of 40-50% is recommended, higher is better), as well as an active Greed Shrine. Under the effect of the Greed Shrine, we’ll need to find a mini-event of sorts that involves an NPC character dying to a Monster, as shown below.

Upon depositing a Lucky Coin while solo (or as part of a group), you’ll earn the Well-Wisher Achievement and Suffix Title.

However, if you coordinate a group of 5 players and bring them to the well, you’ll be able to earn the Ring of Misfortune if you each deposit a coin. Why 5 players? Because each player needs to be in a different class.

Bottom of the Well

Now, with the Vessel of Hatred, we’ll have 6 classes. As confirmed on PTR, a sixth rune was also present and visible near the well; as opposed to being covered by a setpiece. The setpiece in question is the pile of skulls just below the well.

With a sixth rune around the well uncovered and a sixth class added to the game we’ll need to perform the steps mentioned to get a Lucky Coin, but with 6 players and 6 classes.

Of course, the solo method outlined in the Ring of Misfortune guide still also applies here. Yes, it’s still a lot of effort, and no, it doesn’t change anything about the Bottom of the Well. I would not recommend it beyond obtaining the Ring of Misfortune.

This new Cellar is the result of the water draining from the well and opening the way to The Bottom of the Well.

But what’s in this cellar? There is a Skeleton and an interactable stone with writing called the Old Scribbled Message, which displays the following lore when interacted with:

“The stone is covered in scribblings; only some are legible:

“Grandson … hope … reaches you … doomed … my folly … fortune … stolen by … vermin in Nahantu … find another … became trapped …”

429 tallies are marked around the message.”

This step isn’t required to drop a Luckier Coin, but serves as a hint to the rest of the secret. Unfortunately, the next steps are only be able to be completed by those with the Vessel of Hatred Expansion.

Not only are the 429 tallies a commemorative number, being the number of days from Diablo 4’s Launch, to the first time a Ring of Misfortune was obtained, but they also worked it into this stage of the secret.

Season 8, when this secret was enabled, also happened to launch on April 29th, or 4/29 for those not familiar with US Date/Time format. It’s highly unlikely this is more than a coincidence, but it’d be crazy of them to line all of this up in this way.

The Luckier Coin

Exact details on acquiring the Luckier Coin are still being pinned down. Below is the current understanding of its acquisition.

So we’re off to Nahantu to find some Rats that may have the Luckier Coin we’re after. But what exactly are we looking for?

Luckier Coin item description in Diablo 4

We’re looking for a Rat, but this one happens to be special and has a set of conditions to meet before it spawns.

First, we need a Blast Wave Shrine active. Why this Shrine in particular? It’s assumed to be the power alluded to by the Ring of the Jinx’s Unique Effect “Objects often break around you.”

Unfortunately, Shrines aren’t in a huge abundance in Nahantu, but Lower Kurast is a great spot to hunt, as a Shrine and a spawn in the middle of the area, and there are plenty of containers. The area you get a Blast Wave Shrine doesn’t matter, so long as it’s not in a dungeon.

However, if you can get one, using Ahavarion, Spear of Lycander is highly recommended for easy access to Shrine Effects. It’s still RNG to get a Blast Wave Shrine, but can be used with ease by resetting the cellar in the southwest of Lower Kurast, as cellars will almost always spawn an elite, allowing us to trigger Ahavarion’s Effect off-cooldown.

Then, we need to use the Blast Wave Shrine to break Containers, or at the very least have the effect active and break them with our own AoE. Currently, there doesn’t seem to be a hard location requirement, but it likely needs to be done in Nahantu, as per the hint at the Bottom of the Well.

The only other requirement besides a shrine is that we specifically need to target a Container that highlights, or at least can be directly targeted. These are the containers you can hover the cursor over and it shows a name with a red outline. No Lucky Hit Chance is required.

Then, once the Rat has spawned, we need to follow it. No, it’s not a joke, and yes, it takes a while. After 7 minutes and 9 seconds, or exactly 429 seconds of following it, it will explode, relinquishing its Luckier Coin. We did say earlier that they worked that number into the secret somehow.

There are some occasions where it seems to explode sooner, but most of the time it will take 429 seconds.

So long as you don’t leave the area before the rat explodes, even if you lost track of it, the Luckier Coin will be on the ground to claim, or will go to your Lost and Found chest if entirely missed.

There’s no need to worry if you’ve “found the wrong rat” or “accidentally blast it away along with monsters”. This rat is invulnerable, as demonstrated below, and no form of AoE Damage will take it out before it does what it needs to. Unlike other Rats, this special Rat will not flee from you either, instead walking around at a leisurely pace.

The Ring of the Jinx

Once we have a Luckier Coin, we’ll need to head to the town of Samuk in the Five Hills zone of Southwestern Nahantu. It’s location is circled in the map below.

A Map of the Nahantu Region with the town of Samuk circled.

Here we’ll be looking for a Moss-Covered Grave. On first inspection, without a Luckier Coin, this will appear to be a normal grave that displays the following lore:

“The plaque reads:

“————, third of his name
Thus ends his tormented lineage
Three generations, thrice cursed.
Let it be known – the law of the jungle Absolves betrayal only in death.”

The name has been purposefully defaced.”

However, under the surface, much like the Wishing Well, there’s more to this grave than would initially appear. This grave checks for two things when interacting with it; whether or not we have a Luckier Coin on us and if we have used it before.

If we have the Luckier Coin, interacting with the grave will drop the Ring of the Jinx. No parties or special requirements here, just click and receive! The Ring of the Jinx will only drop for the person depositing the coin, even in a party.

Just like the Ring of Misfortune before it, there doesn’t seem to be any current use for the Ring of the Jinx. It seems that just like the Secret Cow Level, we’re likely to be waiting for the next steps of the quest to do anything with it.

Ring of Jinx in Diablo 4

The Ring of the Jinx can be acquired multiple times, just like the Ring of Misfortune. However, any Luckier Coins or Rings of the Jinx will need to be stored away, as even having either in our inventory will prevent the rat from spawning and prevent us from interacting with the grave.

Also, unlike the Ring of Misfortune, the Ring of the Jinx is useful in combat. Its myriad of stats and lack of level requirement can make it a great leveling item. The only thing to be wary of is its Unique Affix, which isn’t harmful in most cases, but has a habit of triggering explosive barrels and similar objects.

While equipped, you’ll see a buff similar to that of the Ring of Misfortune, though this one is called Hex. However, this time, its flavor text will read: “Calamity Follows you.” Though, much like the Flavor text and Buff of the Ring of Misfortune, it simply indicates the Unique Affix is active.

What’s Next

Currently, it seems likely there will be more to this in the future. It may come with a future update or expansion.

One of the main thoughts that brings this possibility forward is that we will now have a pair of rings, and will be missing an amulet for a full set of equipment for our accessory slots. This follows the naming of the coins as well. If there’s a Lucky Coin and a Luckier Coin, the next would likely be the Luckiest Coin.

The final point suggesting this may be the case is that the Secret Cow Level also got a new step in this expansion as well, but also seemingly still incomplete. Though with the Secret Cow Level making use of more clearly defined and memorable relics referencing past Secret Levels in the Diablo series, there are still some notable relics that are unused.

Regardless of how they go about it, we’ll have to wait and see how it gets expanded upon. As for when this may happen, it will likely come with the next expansion slated for 2026. There’s a small chance it’s added before then due to how far out that expansion is, but very unlikely.

Additional Credits

As always, I’d like to shout out the folks on the “Diablo 4 – Not Finding a Cow Level” Discord, particularly Rusted_Ace2013, strad, H8rding, and voidStar for their diligence in this hunt. Without their help to track down these secrets and confirm them, these guides wouldn’t be nearly as complete. Here’s to more discoveries and progress in the future.
