Grounded 2 Omni-Tool Guide: Everything you need to know

RubyRose by RubyRose|

Grounded has overhauled the way we collect resources with the new Omni-Tool. We’ll cover all the information needed to get the most out of this new addition.

What is the Omni-Tool

The Omni-Tool is a gathering tool that allows us to collect more resources over time as we continue to upgrade it. It covers all of our Busting, Chopping, Digging, and Repairing needs.

This all-in-one tool is Grounded 2’s answer to opening up more space in our Hotpouch and Backpack for resource gathering. By freeing up the extra space, we’re able to use our Hotbar more effectively with different weapons, equipment, food, and potions.

Currently, the Omni-Tool is capped by the resources available in Early Access. For an idea of when more upgrades will be available, check out the Early Access Roadmap and look for the timing of the Equipment Tier additions.

How to Unlock the Omni-Tool

While we don’t immediately start the game with this amazing tool, we do get access to it very early on by visiting the Snackbar Ranger Outpost. The Main Story Quest will guide us there, so no need to fret if you don’t immediately find it.

Inside the Ranger Outpost, we’ll find a rack on the wall that holds several Omni-Tools.

Go ahead and grab one, and we’ll teach you just what it can do.

Using the Omni-Tool

The Omni-Tool can be used by Pressing E (PC Default button) near any resource that requires it. It has four basic functions: Busting, Chopping, Digging, and Repairing. Each of these replaces a tool from Grounded 1. Below, we’ll detail each of these, their upgrade paths, and what can be collected at each tier.

Busting

The Omni-Hammer is the Busting tool. Its whole purpose is to break things down into manageable pieces, especially if that thing is a Rock, an Acorn, or another hard object.

In the current state of Early Access, this particular tool is capped at Tier 3, but will have 5 tiers later on. Below is a table of its currently available upgrade path and unlocks.

Omni-Tool Progression

As we said previously, the Omni-Tool follows a fairly rigid progression order, mostly determined by the Tier of Omni-Axe. So what exactly does that progression look like? Here’s a quick table to summarize it.

Customizing the Omni-Tool

While the current customization option is limited by the teen we play as, the Omni-Tool and SCA.B 2K can be customized to fit their normal outfit. It may appear slightly off when using a Founder’s Pack Skin.

To do this, we’ll need to head to the Pine Hill Ranger Outpost located far to the North. Using a Buggy is highly recommended to get there quickly, as well as to fight off any bugs that may be guarding the entrance.

Once inside, we can walk up to the Omni-Tool Customizer here and change the look of our Omni-Tool.

It comes at a heavy Raw Science Cost and some bug materials, so wait until you have an abundance of both to make the swap. It’s purely cosmetic, so there’s certainly no rush for it.
