With a brief interview during Day 1 of Gamescom 2025, Obsidian and Eidos Montreal have given us a look at what’s to come to Grounded 2 in the near future.
Upcoming Boss: AXL the Tarantula
AXL is the first optional boss coming to Grounded 2. While we’ve known it to be coming with the update this Fall, thanks to the Early Access Roadmap, the developers have finally shared our first proper look at this gargantuan Boss.
As stated by the developers, AXL is approximately sixteen times the size of the player. Even compared to the Orb Weaver Buggy, which already looks massive compared to us, it still pales in comparison.
Not much was shown in terms of the fight, but it was mentioned to be a multi-phase fight, each introducing mechanics to keep the fight interesting throughout.
For taking down such a creature, we’ll be given plenty of rewards. This ranges from blueprints for a larger Storage Chest, to a Massive Bow. Sadly, neither of these was shown off.
As a bit of trivia, it was mentioned that the name AXL is a reference to the Tarantula from the movie Home Alone. With mentions of other Home Alone references within the game.
Upcoming Biome: Community Garden
The Community Garden Biome is set to release with Grounded 2’s Winter Update. This means it could drop anywhere between December and February, though it seems more likely to come in the middle of that timeframe, unless they’re planning it closer to the holidays near the start.
While only shown as concept art, we’ve finally gotten our first look at the next biome to be added to Grounded 2, the Community Garden. From this concept art, it was shown to have at least two sub-areas. Based on the Concept art, these are very likely to each have an Ominent building.
The first of these is the Greenhouse, which is said to feel like a maze. With the concept shown below, we could see that being the case.
The second major area here is the Pumpkin Patch. It appears that it will be the area surrounding the Greenhouse. It’ll be quite a large area to explore, but it has a few notable locations shown even in its concept art.
This area has the potential to introduce even more Hidden Weapons and Trinkets and plenty of new resources. This is even suggested by the last piece of Concept Art, which shows a teen entering what appears to be a Rotten Pumpkin, a potential side area with the added purple markings.
Upcoming Buggy: Ladybug
Coming alongside the new Biome will be the Ladybug Buggy. It’s not fully known how the Ladybug will fit into the Buggy System; however, the concept art does open up far more ideas than just a plain old Buggy.
One of the more interesting things shown was concept art of the Ladybug Buggy with a turret on its back, with both one-player and two-player versions being concepted.
It’s possible this turret may take the place of the utility of the buggy, potentially using ammo that will provide Busting Power, similar to the Red Soldier Ant’s Chopping Power.
