What are the Northern Shredders
Unlike most other hidden weapons, the Northern Shredders aren’t as much hidden as they are extremely easy to miss. They’re Tier 2 Claw Weapons made from Northern Scorpion and Caterpillar parts.
Their Critical Hit Venom Perk is more notable as the earliest weapon available with access to Venom, with the only other consistent option being the Tier 3 Wolfsbane Daggers.
Preparations
Before heading out, we’ll need to make sure we have everything we need to reach the Northern Shredders Recipe. In this case, we need just the Red Soldier Ant Buggy. We’ll still want to be prepared to handle a couple of Scorpions, though.
The Red Soldier Ant Buggy is required to remove the Dry Roots blocking access to the cave that holds the recipe for the Northern Shredders.
How to get the Northern Shredders
Immediately after unlocking our Red Soldier Ant Buggy, the Main quest will direct us toward a cave just in front of the Snackbar. Just a bit north of the Snackbar Ant Hill, and East of Headless BURG.L.
Upon reaching the cave, we’ll need our recently acquired Red Soldier Ant Buggy to chop away the Dry Roots here.
To get access to this cave and claim the items we’re after here, we’ll need to take care of a couple of O.R.C. Scorpions. One that hides near the entrance and one that guards the treasures within. Once dealt with, we can claim the recipe from atop a barrel inside the cave. It might be easy to see exactly how this weapon often gets missed.
Don’t forget the Optical Disk here; it would have been the main reason to come here after all. There’s also a Milk Molar tucked in the back as well, if we’ve acquired the Tier 1 Omni-Hammer.
Using the Northern Shredders
The Northern Shredders are quite the powerful Fist Weapons. Paired with the matching Scorpion Armor allows for an exceptionally Powerful Rogue Build.
With the Rogue Archetype boosting Critical Hit Chance to trigger Venom, and getting bonus damage from the Scorpion Set in addition to that, it’s easily one of the best early game setups.
Later on, we can combine it with the Snail Armor Set, which, alongside the Lil Fist Perk, allows for some devastating burst damage with Charge Attacks.
This is because both the Snail Set Perk and Lil Fist provide stacking bonuses that will discharge with heavy Attacks.
With enough stacks of both effects, this can easily end up dealing 30%+ of an enemy’s health. This does, however, require a lot of perfect blocks and regular attacks, meaning it really only serves as a strong finishing burst.
