Learn how to get to Awaji Island in the Claws of Awaji DLC for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. This guide will show you how to complete the side-scrolling mini game from the quest, The Puppet Show.
News from Hattori Hanzo
To get the quest, The Puppet Show, you’ll need to complete the quest News from Hattori Hanzo. You’ll get this after meeting the prerequisites to access Claws of Awaji and talk to Hanzo’s contact at the hideout. When you’re done talking to Konatsu, you’ll start The Puppet Show.
The Puppet Show
Proceeding as Naoe, meet up with Junjiro at Nishinomiya Shrine in northwest Izumi Settsu. You might recognize this area as where you start the quest The Kabukimono.
As you walk around, you can explore the area and inspect some masks, pray at a shrine, help a little girl get her ball from the pond, and find a scroll with some minor information.
Naoe will comment on the Oni mask, stating that she hopes to never meets a real oni. Unfortunately for her, she very much can.
All you need to do is go towards the back where the puppet master is and watch the puppet show. This will start a cutscene and transition into something new entirely.
The Greedy Shinobi
The tale starts off with the story of a beautiful maiden that arrived to Awaji Island. Despite the theatrical appearance, this is not a cutscene and you’re in full control here! You can move left or right as this story is portrayed in a 2D space.
Walk right and the puppet master will continue narrating as you make progress, sharing the story of the beautiful maiden. As the story goes on, you’ll gain control of the maiden’s champion.
You’ll have theatrical combat encounters with the champion and he fights just like Yasuke would with a kanabo. If you’re lucky, you’ll get blood in the form of red streamers flying off your enemies.
You’ll reach a cliff you’re unable to climb. To progress through this area, go inside the derelict house and pull the wooden box to the cliff. Climb up the box and then the cliff to continue.
After some platforming and combat, you’ll swap to a new character. The Greedy Shinobi plays like Naoe, so you’ll rely on stealth and assassinations for this portion of the story. You can make a good guess as to who this shinobi is.
After the puppet master says “Those who confronted her were never seen again”, you’ll encounter a rooftop. Use the hatch on the roof to climb down and inside the house to proceed.
Continue sneaking your way forward and the story will meet its end. You’ll exit the 2D platformer mode and back into a cutscene with Naoe or Yasuke and Junjiro talking about the show.
If you’re ready to proceed, select I will go to Awaji. If you have unfinished business on the mainland, select I will remain here for now until you’re ready to head to Awaji.
When you go to Awaji, you’ll be transported there through a loading screen and end up at the docks of Sumoto on the east coast of the island. This is where the fun begins, and you’ll start the quest A Shinobi on Awaji.
