How to get the Spider Lily Armor in Ghost of Yotei: Overview and Stats

This guide will show you what the Spider Lily Armor looks like, what buffs it provides, and how to get it in Ghost of Yotei!

Cosmetic Appearance Tiers and Dyes

Spider Lily Armor is obtainable by all players in Ghost of Yotei and features vibrant two-tone colors on medium samurai armor featuring a small bouquet of giant spider lilies on the helmet. It also has some great matching weapon kits, the likes of which I haven’t seen for any other armor thus far.

The preview images show the Tier I, Tier II and Tier IV. Click or tap on the images to enlarge them.

Grief of a General

The default Grief of a General dye uses black and brown as a base and combines a vibrant crimson red with piercing cerulean blue.

Grief of a General matches particularly well with the following Weapon Kits:

  • Infamous Strike (Sword)
  • Demon’s Mercy (Sword)
  • Rain of Ruin (Yari)
  • The Oni’s Glory (Odachi)
  • Spirit of Revenge (Hankyu)

Spring Lily

Spring Lily pairs turqoise with a pristine beige, brown undertones, and gold accents.

You’d think other greens would clash with the turquioise, but they don’t. I recommend using the following weapon kits with the Spring Lily dye:

  • Yae’s Cruel Brew (Sword)
  • Wind’s Grace (Sword)
  • Bone Dust (Yari)
  • Yari of Sensei Takahashi (Yari)
  • Omens of the Aurora (Odachi)
  • White Talon (Hankyu)

Autumn Lily

Autumn Lily combines black with various shades of purple and eye-popping red accents.

Sadly, purple weapon kits seem harder to come by, at least in the first half of the game, so you’ll want to focus on expanding the red accent in the Autumn Lily dye with red weapon kits:

  • Demon’s Mercy (Sword)
  • Mourning Kimono (Sword)
  • Koromodako’s Reach (Sword)
  • Scalding Spear (Yari)
  • Hearth’s Blessing (Yumi)
  • Spirit of Vengeance (Hankyu)

Armor Effects

Spider Lily Armor improves your stagger capabilities with melee weapons and increased chance to drop their throwable weapons. Upgrading the armor strengthens these effects.

Tier I

  • Enemies have a minor chance to drop throwable weapons.
  • Stagger damage inflicted by melee weapons increases by a minor amount.
  • Staggering an enemy has a minor chance of dealing minor Stagger damage to nearby enemies.

Tier II

  • Enemies have a moderate chance to drop throwable weapons.
  • Stagger damage inflicted by melee weapons increases by a minor amount.
  • Staggering an enemy has a minor chance of dealing minor Stagger damage to nearby enemies.

Tier III

  • Enemies have a moderate chance to drop throwable weapons.
  • Stagger damage inflicted by melee weapons increases by a moderate amount.
  • Staggering an enemy has a minor chance of dealing minor Stagger damage to nearby enemies.

Tier IV

  • Enemies have a moderate chance to drop throwable weapons.
  • Stagger damage inflicted by melee weapons increases by a moderate amount.
  • Staggering an enemy has a moderate chance of dealing moderate Stagger damage to nearby enemies.

Take these descriptions with a grain of salt as the effects seem kind of unfinished or prototypical. Enemies already drop throwable weapons frequently, and there’s a whole terrified mechanic that seems far more appropriate for the armor and what it seems to be describing.

How to get Spider Lily Armor

You can obtain the Spider Lily Armor for completing the spooky Myth quest “The Spider Lily General”, which takes place in Tokachi Range. Some guy inside Hiranui’s Rest Inn tells you about the Myth.

You then need to head to the marked location where you’ll find a Mysterious Gate that functions as the entrance to the Abandoned Tominaga Estate. Once you’ve heard the Storyteller’s schpeal, head inside.

Head to the back of the estate and you’ll come across a gate with 4 locks. Atsu notices there’s a little glyph on each of the locks corresponding to a location on the estate.

Pagoda Key

The Pagoda Key is located in a chest on the deck surrounding the pagoda, the tallest structure on the estate. You can’t miss it.

Maze Key

The Maze Key requires you to do a little Lost Woods-style puzzle in the bamboo forest. As you walk in, you’ll see a Bamboo Strike, but the bamboo is missing. There’s also a bunch of paths that go in different directions but lead back to the same place.

Each time you take the correct path, a piece of bamboo will appear on the Bamboo Strike. Take the wrong path, and you reset your progress. The correct path is the one with the Spider Lilies (red flowers).

Once you do the spider lily path 3 times, do the Mist Valley Bamboo Strike and you’ll get the Engraved Key for the maze.

Cave Key

The Cave Key is located inside a cave.Look for a crack in the rock that you have to squeeze through near a corpse-to-be. Go through the cave and you’ll find the girl’s drawings along with the key.

Grave Key

You’ll find the Grave Key at the girl’s grave. There are some graverobbers nearby that you don’t have to deal with.

Fight the Spider Lily General

Once you have found the four keys, unlock the gate and head to the right through the door. You’ll need to defeat The Spider Lily General.

After you defeat him, you can collect his armor at his now de-spookified grave.

How Outfits work in Ghost of Yotei

In Ghost of Yotei, you can equip a helmet, a mask, armor, shamisen, and saddle as your outfit. Typically, only armor affects your performance in combat.

The other pieces are are purely for fashion, with a few exceptions. The rest of your combat performance is determined by your equipped charms, which have no effect on appearance.

Armor usually offers three different buffs in combat. Most sets can be upgraded three times (tier I to tier IV) by employing the services of an Armorer, like Ginji. Upgrading armor costs coin and resources, and doing so improves the strength of the perks it provides.

Upgrades also add more details and elements to the armor, including a adding a mask or helmet at tier III, and can choose which upgrade tier you want Atsu to wear independently of the effects.

For example, if you have Taro’s Armor upgraded to tier IV, you can benefit from tier IV while still make it look like Atsu is wearing the tier II version.

Most outfit pieces are dyeable, allowing you to change their color scheme. Dyes are always tied to a specific outfit piece, so you can’t just dye anything you want. Armors usually come with a helmet and/or mask, and they can use the same dyes.

If a piece isn’t directly affiliated with an armor, it may not be possible to dye it to match. Many different vendors sell dyes and you can exchange them for flowers you pick throughout Ezo. They often sell a mask that matches the dye so you can get something to match the dye you just bought.

You can also change how your weapons look using [Weapon Type] Kits, which are equipped to your weapons like dyes but alter their apperance to a similar extent to how outfits alter Atsu’s appearance.

Ghost of Yotei does not have a transmog system, so Atsu’s appearance will match her combat capabilities. The only things you can change are the worn upgrade tier of the armor, eqiupped hat and/or mask, and their color schemes via dyes.

Endonae is a passionate gamer who's particularly fond of challenging action RPGs and open world games with visceral combat. The closer it is to being a Soulslike, the better. Ranged casters, particularly of the energy or elemental variety, are his bread and butter. Lightsabers are pretty cool, too.
