How to start Call of the Hunt
To start this mission, you need to escape Oshima Coast and escort Kiku to your home in the Yotei Grasslands. Afterwards, go west to the Shikotsu Woods and go up Mount Yotei to find Hanbei.
Talk to Hanbei
Climb up Mount Yotei to reach Hanbei’s house. This is the same path you took when you learned the Way of Dual Katana.
After sharing what happened to Hanbei, he proceeds to tell Atsu what she already knows and to check Tokachi Range for the Spider.
He’s likely in the process of burying his brother, so she needs to find him while he’s still there to learn where Jubei and Oyuki are being held.
Find the Spider
The Spider can be found near Ohara Plains in the eastern portion of the Yotei Grasslands. The map will lead you to the starting path for Amber Respite Shrine, but you’ve gone a tad too far if you see torii gate and statues.
Instead, you want to be directly east of the map marker. There’s an opening that leads to a graveyard.
Investigate the tombstones ahead of you then wait for the spider behind some tombstones in the corner. A cutscene will start where the Spider appears.
After the cutscene, chase the Spider down the gravel slope and go towards the waterfall. Avoid his gunshots and start climbing up the path to the shrine.
The path up the shrine is very straight-forward so long as you don’t mind the guilt-induced hallucinations. Be more concerned with avoid the gunshots and don’t forget to open that yellow chest you run into for supplies.
The tricky part with reaching the shrine is making a very long jump across the gap. It’s very easy to fail here but you’ll respawn nearby. Get a running start and jump at the very edge and you should be able to grab onto the ledge on the other side.
Continue going forward while trying to avoid the Spider’s shots. If you fall down the first two platforming areas, you can always climb up the rocks to proceed.
Swing across the gravel slope using the tree branch and grappling hook and follow the spider. When you reach the ledge you’d need a boost for, look to the right and squeeze through the rocks and climb up the ladder.
The Spider Boss Fight
The Spider has a very similar fighting style to his brother. He’s not as aggressive or skilled as his brother as he he’s more vulnerable to being disarmed with focus attacks.
Avoid his Pistol Shots
He’ll fight dirty and will take a shot at you with his pistol the moment the fight starts after the cutscene fades out.
Like the Dragon, the Spider will shoot you between and during his combos, or will take a shot at you if you stray too far away. Stay close to him to minimize the amount of shots he takes.
Like the Dragon, using your own pistol or a melee attack can interrupt his pistol shot if you’re fast enough.
Katana Combos
The Spider has a preference for the Katana and has a lot more combos developed for it. He can swap to his yari at any point throughout the fight.
Three Slash Blue Glint Combo
The most basic combo the Spider can make is when he holds his katana overhead with a blue glint. This is series of three blue glint flash attacks.
Blue Glint Dash Attack
When the Spider holds his blade parallel to the ground with a blue glint, he’s making a dash attack that covers a lot of distance.
Unblockable Dash Attack
If he crouches with his katana and you see a red glint, dodge to the side as he’s making an unblockable dash attack.
Blue Glint Disarming Combo
If the Spider lunges at you with a blue glint, he’ll follow it up with a normal spin attack, a blue glint spin attack, and a yellow glint pommel attack. If you failed to parry the previous moves, try to disarm him with a focus attack on the yellow glint attack.
Kicking Disarming Combo
If the Spider spin kicks you, he’ll follow it up with a yellow glint attack and a red glint attack. Try to use a focus attack while the yellow glint is invisible to disarm him.
Yari Combos
With the yari’s longer reach, you might be inclined to keep your distance. Don’t go too far otherwise he’ll shoot you with his pistol.
Retreating Yari Attack
If the Spider is using his yari and moves his torso back, yari pointing upwards with a blue glint, he’ll do a short thrust attack then jump backwards to gain distance. This might allow him to pull off a pistol shot if you’re too far away.
Thrusts and Swing Combo
If the Spider points his yari at a lightly downwards angle with a blue glint, he’ll make two blue glint thrusts followed by a blue glint swing.
Yari to Katana Mixed Combo
If the Spider is using his yari and puts it at a slight angle upwards with a blue glint, he’s using a switch combo. This is two blue glint yari attacks, a dash back, followed by two unblockable katana attacks.
Disarming Throw
When the Spider leaps back and is positioning to throw his yari with a yellow glint, dodge to the side to avoid being disarmed. If you’re fast enough, you can pick up his yari and throw it back at him.
Once the Spider is defeated, you’ll learn how to find Jubei and Oyuki. After the cutscene, you’ll complete Call of the Hunt.
