How to start To Catch A Spider
After a failed attempt to capture The Dragon, meet with Oyuki and Jubei in the Matsumae Residences. You’ll find them in Jubei’s home.
The Spider has taken over Lord Tamura’s estate and is using it for his parties. Meet Oyuki near Lord Tamura’s Estate in Tokuyama Hills to the northeast.
Follow Oyuki to the estate to find that Kiku has tagged along. Despite Atsu’s and Oyuki’s protests, Kiku insists on helping as she knows the layout of the estate.
Find a way into the Tamura Estate
Follow Kiku through the rocky outcrops to reach a vantage point where you can survey the estate. You’ll want to view the following locations:
- The Main House
- The Guest Houses
- The Gardens
- The Servant’s Quarters
Follow Kiku to a hidden entrance into the estate. Examine the hidden door on the wall and sneak inside to enter Lord Tamura’s Estate.
Find the Performers
It’s a bit of a trek to reach the performers at the guest houses as there are a lot of the Spider’s men between you and them.
While you can fight them openly, it’s more efficient to sneak and assassinate your way through. The Kusarigama Assassinate and Chain Assassination upgrades are especially useful in this encounter.
The Servant Houses
Assassinate the two nearby guards and walk around the small servant house within the small grass. Wait for the patrolling guard to get close enough to kill, assassinate them, then assassinate the two guards near the campfire.
Behind the house near the campfire is some tall grass, go in there and head towards the stables. Assassinate the patrolling guard and use a nearby empty sake bottle to distract the guards near the campfire, assassinating them when they’re vulnerable.
The Gardens
Across the stables is a path that will lead you to the gardens. Stick to the left side of the wall and hide behind some crates when you reach the gardens.
Assassinate the two guards in front of you and follow the path to the left to find a lone guard. Assassinate them and avoid going to the left or around the corner here as there’s a group of guards that can see you.
Go towards the pond with the small tree and hide within the tall grass to the right wall. Follow it and you’ll see a small path that goes further into the gardens. Near the tree in the pond is gold ore you can mine, be sure to grab that.
Kill the two guards down the hidden path, go across the gravel path and up the ledges behind the flower bushes.
The Guest Houses
When you’re in the tall grass, go to the right across the path that leads downhill, open the purple supply chest, and hide behind a cart. Use a nearby sake bottle to distract a soldier sitting and facing your way at the campfire. Sneak into the house to the fight once he’s facing away from you.
When inside the house, go through the door to the left and open the door straight ahead of you. Sneak to the tent across the stone path.
If a guard follows you, assassinate them before they can alert the others. Loot the purple chest inside the tent for supplies. Step through the half open door and go through the open fence and go to the tall grass to the left.
Up ahead are three soldiers near a campfire. Ideally you’ll want to chain assassinate them, or take them out with your bow and concentration skill. There’s no penalty for alerting them and fighting them directly.
Loot the purple chest near the tent then go through the pond. Boost Oyuki over the wall and it’ll be a straight shot to the Guest House where the Performers are at.
During a cutscene, Atsu will choose a mask to disguise herself. This is the Onryo Mask and it will now be a cosmetic option you can don at any time. It provides no benefit and is compatible with hats.
Use the Ghost Stance
Walk into the theater performance towards The Spider. After a cutscene, you’ll now have access to the Ghost Stance. Press L3 + R3 to activate it and attack The Spider.
This is similar to the Onryo Howl but it allows you to decimate more enemies who quiver in fear before you. You’ll need to get three additional kills on top of Onryo Howl to activate it, but it’s worth it.
When the Ghost Stance is up, kill the various soldiers around you. They die in one or two hits, allowing you to easily acquire your Ghost Stance once more.
When available, use Ghost stance to attack The Spider and repeat this process until he’s defeated. When defeated, watch a cutscene and your Onryo Armor will now be fully upgraded.
With The Spider now captured, all that’s left to do is to lure in his brother, The Dragon, and finally take both of them down.
