This guide will show you what the Crimson Kimono looks like, what buffs it provides, and how to get it in Ghost of Yotei!

Cosmetic Appearance Tiers and Dyes
Crimson Kimono is obtainable by all players in Ghost of Yotei and features concepts of a kimono that may or may not be crimson and become less pronounced as you upgrade the set.
The Crimson Kimono Mask is considered a Mask rather than a Helmet, and you can’t wear a Helmet on top of it.

Daughter’s Regret
Daughter’s Regret is the default dye that features the so-called crimson kimono, though it’s really more of a firey red-orange than crimson.

Hidden Sakura
Hidden Sakura features a pinky purple kimono that gets concealed as the accent color to a primarily black outfit as you upgrade it.

Eclipsed Plum
Eclipse Plum has a purple kimono with silvery accents and black undertones. The purple remains the primary color, differentiating it from Hidden Sakura.

Burrowed Moss
Burrowed Moss features a green kimono with gold accents and black undertones.

Stolen Sunflower
Stolen Sunflower features a gold kimono that fades to sandy brown and even white in a gradient, rather than contrasting with black.

Armor Effects
The Crimson Kimono is the best stealth armor in Ghost of Yotei. It improves your ability to remain hidden and extends the range at which you can assassinate enemies using Kunai and Kusarigama. Upgrading the armor strengthens these effects.
While it isn’t mentioned, Smoke Bombs are also essential because you’re so stealth-focused. If you ever get noticed, toss a Smoke Bomb and perform a Chain Assassination.
Tier I
- Chain Assassinations can be performed with Kunai (max 1 Kunai thrown).
- Enemy detection is reduced by a major amount.
- Kusarigama Assassinations can be unleashed from further away. The distance is increased by a minor amount.
Tier II
- Chain Assassinations can be performed with Kunai (max 2 Kunai thrown).
- Enemy detection is reduced by a major amount.
- Kusarigama Assassinations can be unleashed from further away. The distance is increased by a minor amount.
Tier III
- Chain Assassinations can be performed with Kunai (max 2 Kunai thrown).
- Enemy detection is reduced by a massive amount.
- Kusarigama Assassinations can be unleashed from further away. The distance is increased by a minor amount.
Tier IV
- Chain Assassinations can be performed with Kunai (max 2 Kunai thrown).
- Enemy detection is reduced by a massive amount.
- Kusarigama Assassinations can be unleashed from further away. The distance is increased by a major amount.
The Kunai effect lets you perform a Chain Assassination with enemies who aren’t grouped as close together.
How to get the Crimson Kimono
You can obtain the Crimson Kimono by completing the “Crimson Kimono” Myth in Teshio Ridge, the 5th region in Ghost of Yotei. Talk to NPCs in Teshio Ridge and you should get the Myth to appear on your map, but I remember getting the quest way earlier, like in Yotei Grasslands or something.
You’ll use notes from the daughter and follow around some red yuki mushi (fireflies) to reach several orange Mother Daughter Trees and places where the daughter once lived and eventually dig up the Crimson Kimono.

It takes a bit of discipline to get this quest started. Teshio Ridge is far more densely packed with things to do. It feels like every time you head for that flower on your map, you get dragged into something else!
Mother Daughter Tree 1 and Abandoned Campsite
Your first objective is to find the Mother Daughter Tree in Sakuru Woods. Once there, you’ll notice a snow sculpture and trigger a little cutscene. Red Yuki Mushi will appear and guide you to the daughter’s Abandoned Campsite on the eastern edge of Sakuru Woods.

A note you find at the campsite tells you to head to another tree in Hakodake Mountains.
Mother Daughter Tree 2 and Abandoned Shack
Head to the Mother Daughter Tree in Hakodake Mountains, north of Sakuru Woods.

You’ll encounter some more red Yuki Mushi that will lead you to an Abandoned Shack where you’ll discover another note from the daughter.

The note mentions a mountain north of Teshio River in the middle of Teshio Ridge.
Mother Daughter Tree 3 and Old Home
Keep your eyes peeled for a third Mother Daughter Tree where you’ll encounter more red Yuki Mushi.

The red Yuki Mushi will lead you to a small opening in the rocks that you’ll need to crawl through. On the other side, you’ll see the Old Home.

There’s a note form the daugher upstairs (climb through the window or use the ladder inside).

Head back outside and finish building the final snow sculpture outside. The red Yuki Mushi will appear for the last time and guide you to a burial site.

The Crimson Kimono is buried in a box overlooking Sarobetsu Lake. Unlike all the other Myths, there’s no boss fight for this one.

How Outfits work in Ghost of Yotei
In Ghost of Yotei, you can equip a helmet, a mask, armor, shamisen, and saddle as your outfit. Typically, only armor affects your performance in combat.
The other pieces are are purely for fashion, with a few exceptions. The rest of your combat performance is determined by your equipped charms, which have no effect on appearance.
Armor usually offers three different buffs in combat. Most sets can be upgraded three times (tier I to tier IV) by employing the services of an Armorer, like Ginji. Upgrading armor costs coin and resources, and doing so improves the strength of the perks it provides.
Upgrades also add more details and elements to the armor, including a adding a mask or helmet at tier III, and can choose which upgrade tier you want Atsu to wear independently of the effects.
For example, if you have Taro’s Armor upgraded to tier IV, you can benefit from tier IV while still make it look like Atsu is wearing the tier II version.
Most outfit pieces are dyeable, allowing you to change their color scheme. Dyes are always tied to a specific outfit piece, so you can’t just dye anything you want. Armors usually come with a helmet and/or mask, and they can use the same dyes.
If a piece isn’t directly affiliated with an armor, it may not be possible to dye it to match. Many different vendors sell dyes and you can exchange them for flowers you pick throughout Ezo. They often sell a mask that matches the dye so you can get something to match the dye you just bought.
You can also change how your weapons look using [Weapon Type] Kits, which are equipped to your weapons like dyes but alter their apperance to a similar extent to how outfits alter Atsu’s appearance.
Ghost of Yotei does not have a transmog system, so Atsu’s appearance will match her combat capabilities. The only things you can change are the worn upgrade tier of the armor, eqiupped hat and/or mask, and their color schemes via dyes.
