What are Scout Bots?
Scout Bots are little probe droids created by the Lamorn that will mark the locations of all upgrade items in their associated region on your Map.
Each of the 5 major regions has a Scout Bot laying around somewhere. Firing a Thunder Shot at it will activate it, allowing you to Scan it. Then, the little droid flies up to the heavens, does an ultrasonic pulse (also a reference to Metroid Prime 2).
After it lands, it automatically transmits the locations of all upgrade items to your map, which show up as little orange crosshairs. Upgrade item types include:
- Energy Tanks
- Missile Tanks
- Shot Ammo Expansions
- Psychic Power Bomb Charges
Scout Bots do not tell you the type of upgrade item waiting at each location, nor do they tell you anything about what other Power Suit upgrades you’ll need to retrieve before you can reach them.
That being said, by the time you unlock the Thunder Shot and MacKenzie stops telling you exactly where to go every five seconds (JK, he never stops), you’ll probably be able to get most of the upgrades.
Fury Green Bot Location
The Fury Green Scout Bot is located in the Ancient Path room near the Resin Creek Save Station.
There’s no need to come back this way after you’ve collected the Fury Green Master Teleporter Key unless you’re trying to get all the upgrade expansions.
Volt Forge Bot Location
The Volt Forge Scout Bot is located at the Tower 2 Generator, the bottom of said tower where you have to turn on the lightning. It’s on the side with the normal Spider Ball tracks that allow you to quickly move between each tower.
You don’t need the Psychic Spider Ball to reach this Scout Bot, but I recommend waiting to retrace your steps through the Volt Forge until you’ve unlocked the Psychic Power Bomb since it’s kind of a pain to navigate the region.
Ice Belt Bot Location
The Ice Belt Scout Bot is resting on the snow in the Snowfield where you had to fight the Snow Wolves at the entrance to the Lamorn facility proper. There’s a Missile Tank right behind it that you probably missed on your first time through.
Flare Pool Bot Location
The Flare Pool Scout Bot is located near a chain of Tether Nodes at the Lava Lake Bridge area to the right of the entrance to the main facility. There’s a ton of stuff to find here even after you get the Flare Pool Master Teleporter Key.
Great Mines Bot Location
The Great Mines Scout Bot is located outside the big elevator at Main Shaft – Level 3, on the exit side near the Save Station.
While you can get this droid on your way through the first time, your access to the rest of the facility is limited until you’ve gotten the Great Mines Master Teleporter Key.
Sol Desert Bot Location
The Scout Bot for the Sol Desert is located slightly north of the entrance to the Volt Forge. It’s out on a little plateau that requires you to jump across some Psychic Platforms with your Psychic Boots.
Several of the markers in Sol Desert point to camping spots for Reger Tokabi, who will give you an upgrade item after talking to listening to him. There is no upgrade part at those locations unless Tokabi is there.
He doesn’t appear there at all until you’ve progressed far enough in the game to start retrieving Mech Parts after clearing out the Great Mines. You can see where he is from a distance by looking for smoke billowing from his campfire.
He doesn’t move around when you’re out in the desert, so if you have nothing left to do, go visit a different region and come back to get him to spawn somewhere else.
