Matt Smith wraps his Star Wars: Starfighter filming, The Force Awakens continues its 10th anniversary celebration, and everything that happened in the week of December 13 – December 19, 2025.
Matt Smith finishes his shooting for Star Wars: Starfighter
On December 12, Matt Smith appeared on This Morning. While the conversation wasn’t about his Star Wars role, he did mention that he’s done filming.
“I finished yesterday and I had to cut my hair for it…. Star Wars, yeah, I finished that yesterday. Yeah, yeah, and that’s why I have this daft haircut, with this funny little front bit. Ryan Gosling’s in it, who’s just fabulous. I think it’s really exciting – it’s directed by Shawn Levy, who did Stranger Things. He’s fantastic. Yeah, I think it’s got legs.”
We still have to wait more than a year to see the movie, but it seems like everything is on time so far. Though that can change at any time if something like the SAG-AFTRA strike happens again.

The Force Awakens anniversary celebration continues
2025 marks the tenth anniversary of The Force Awakens. There have been different ways to celebrate it, like a whole adaptation in a graphic novel format. The celebration continues with a list of 10 behind-the-scenes facts.

- Poe was originally going to die in the first act of the movie.
- Maz Kanata is inspired by a mentor of J.J. Abrams.
- Captain Phasma is inspired by a character that appears in Don Coscarelli’s Phantasm.
- We almost got to see the whole “travel” of Luke’s lightsaber from Bespin to Maz Kanata’s castle in Takodana.

Additionally, they also released some comparisons between concept art and the final result. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen something like this, but it’s nice to see how some of these ideas develop into tangible things.
My favorite examples are the Niima Outpost and the ghost-like appearance of Snoke. I even think it looks better than the final result!
