What Star Wars news and reveals happened in this year’s Comic-Con
San Diego Comic-Con 2016 (SDCC 2016) happened only a few days after Star Wars Celebration and it was obvious that there would be less of a presence this time around compared to the SDCC 2015. However, more than enough was said, shown and revealed for us, the fans of the Never Ending Saga, to learn and enjoy.
StarWars.com did a great roundup with tons of photos and a great overview of the whole event. Here are the highlights I have selected as most interesting and important.
The panel was helmed by Lucasfilm Publishing’s creative director, Michael Siglain and was about what’s on the horizon for Disney comics, and roughly half of the panel was devoted to Star Wars. We got some insight into the making of the recent original trilogy graphic novel and how the creative teams go about telling the stories to different age groups. Revealed during the panel, though, were covers for the newly announced The Force Awakens graphic novel, along with confirmation that a prequel trilogy graphic novel is also in development.
From the Hasbro panel came the wildly and warm welcomed announcement about the 10 cm tall figure of Grand Admiral Thrawn (in his Star Wars Rebels costume). The room erupted in cheers when this image was shown.
The Ahsoka Novel
For many fans, this was the “exclusive” to get at the show. The book may not come out until October 11, but a few advance proofs of E.K. Johnston’s Ahsoka novel popped up in the Del Rey booth, and alert fans who knew the secret phrase were able to grab a copy — and everyone else was left with burning jealousy.
