During the story campaign in Middle-earth: Shadow of War Talion will have to face the Nazgul several times. Each encounter has the same mechanics, though and once you learn how to counter their moves, the fight becomes much easier.
If you came here looking for Guides on the Blades of Galadriel Nazgul, you can find them HERE and HERE (final boss).
The first time you encounter them is at the end of Act I. You have to be very careful for the graphical notification of when one of the Nazgul will do a special attack against you. They have 2 distinctive special attacks. Both of them have visual alerts above the head of the one who is about to perform it. You have to either roll away (it doesn’t matter to which side) or counter with the sword. When countering an attack, be sure to press the button several times as more than one Ringwraith might attack you and when they do it all together, it hurts! A lot!
Focus on the Nazgul one at a time and always be mindful of their 2 special attacks. The Nazgul are capable of teleporting, but as long as you are quick on the Counter key, you will be fine.
I might be wrong, but it appears that if you are far away from them, it is more likely that they will use the ranged attack on you – the one you should roll away to avoid damage. In this case all the Ringwraiths would do it at the same time and if you fail to roll out, you risk getting one-shotted at the higher difficulty level.
The best way to quickly defeat the Nazgul is Executions. A couple of those and the Ghosts will be ready to be dominated. The domination is quick and even though it can be interrupted, it will happen very rarely. How can you tell if a Ringwraith is ready to be banished (dominated)? Similarly to all Captains and Warchiefs in Shadow of War – when they take enough damage, their icon will turn green. At this point you should quickly press and hold the Dominate key.
In Short:
- Counter or Roll away from the Nazgul attacks, when prompted
- Use Executions to quickly lower their health
- When their icon turns green, use Dominate to banish them
- Fight the Nazgul one at a time
Check out a video of the fight. It contains no story spoilers outside of this particular fight. The clip shows Talion’s first encounter at the end of Act I.
