Breaking down the new Solo: A Star Wars Story official trailer frame by frame to show and discuss the important things that can be noticed and speculated on. This article dissects the trailer carefully, without revealing spoilers available outside of the clip itself.
With a cast of some very well-known movie stars and after a very rough production cycle, the “Han Solo Movie” is now nearly finished! It’s release date is 25th of May 2018. On 8th of April we saw the full official trailer, less than two months before the release of the movie.
I’ll do my best to keep away any spoilers sneaking in for the article, so you can have a nice trailer breakdown, but still get to be 100% excited and surprised when you go to your cinema and watch it.
First, take a look at the trailer itself, then scroll below it and let’s begin the breakdown frame by frame!
The opening of the trailer is as epic as it could be – a Star Destroyer in the making. Don’t forget to spot the little rat, trying to escape the frame.
On the next shot we see Han’s first appearance in the trailer. Under the narration of Qi’ra, we see Alden’s young Solo shaded and behind… what appears to be bars. Could Han be in a jail in the very beginning of the movie? Setting him up for a life of a smuggler – always on the run, always escaping?
Right before we see Han’s face, he appears on another shot – image of what the underworld life looks like. Can’t specify if this is Coruscant or another world, but it seems that the life of a homeless bum is never easy and looks similar to what we know in our world…
I don’t know who this is in the next shot, but even if I did, I wouldn’t tell you, since this is supposed to be a “spoiler free” post. Though, look at that awesome helmet!
Below you will find the most obvious Indiana Jones reference ever!
Lando’s (Donald Glover) first appearance is in the next shot. I wonder, could this be the very table where Han wins the Falcon?
Now that I mentioned the Falcon, here is a nice shot of Han and Chewie in front of it. It looks like they are inspecting or exploring it. Probably right after Han won it?
Woody Harrelson’s character Tobias. He appears to be some sort of a mentor to Han (as it appears on the trailer)
Scar-face!
I desperately wanted to claim this next shot to be from a wintery Kashyyyk, but…. the tropical climate would not mix well with the “white season”, don’t you think? Still, though, these ruins of whatever abandoned construction we see, are as epic as ever.
Lando never looses his Cool! Even though we see this next shot later in the trailer, it is more than obvious that it is from the same scene at the table when we saw Lando’s first appearance in the trailer. Scenes in trailers never follow the events of the movie they advertise.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you the new K-2SO. The droid speaks with a female voice. Mini spoiler, I promise, it will be the only one – this is L3-37. I just wanted you to know the name, because it speaks volumes about what we should expect from this character!

An aerial shot of the Millennium Falcon. Parked, as it seems, “in the slums”? Yes, it does look different. Very!
The Three Stoo.. I mean PILOTS! It’s likely a shot shortly after Han won the Falcon from Lando and still has not learned how to fly it. Lando, being himself, is not shy to show-off and demonstrate what the ship can do.
If this is the old version of Snow-Troopers, I love it! They should have never changed it for the Original Trilogy!

And as it seems to be the law lately – no big movie can go without Emilia Clarke being in it! This is Qi’Ra! She looks kind of like an imperial officer with that cape and uniform. Don’t you think?
We’ve rarely seen AT-ST (and all of their modifications) jumping, but when you watch the trailer and see this one jump-landing, it makes you fear the might of the Empire! It made me at least. Epic moment!

If this isn’t the most sweetest shot of the trailer… Chewie and (I can only guess!) a family member reunited? We all know that Chewie’s got a nice family from that one Christmas Special TV Show that doesn’t really exists, but if this truly is a member of Chewie’s family, I would love the movie even more! Oh, by by the way, there’s a split second shot of Chewie in fighting action, but I could not capture a decent image of it, so had to leave it out of this. D’OH!
Here’s Han breaking all possible Star Wars laws and rules by saying out loud “I’ve got a GOOD feeling about this”! Damn it, Han! You’ve doomed us all now! From this moment in the trailer we can judge that Han is not exactly the experienced smuggler/ace pilot we know and love from the original trilogy, but his spirit is the same!
The moment Han finds out Chewie is actually 190 years old. And, by the way, the Falcon’s interior – have you noticed how newer, more cleaner and polished everything looks. No need to throw your fist at the terminals to force them to switch on. I looked really hard through the trailer, but could not spot a shot with the famous pair f dices hanging from the top of the cockpit.
wherever they are, whatever this is, I love it! Some epic moment of the Falcon orbiting an Imperial Star Destroyer.
