As previously announced with the reveal of the Post Launch Roadmap, Ubisoft launches the Live Events feature for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey on October 16th 2018. These are weekly missions, allowing you to chase and defeat epic enemies all across the map if Ancient Greece and earn special rewards. You can think of these as a successor to the Assassin’s Creed Origins Trials of the Gods in a way.
Each week the live event will be rotating between Epic Mercenaries and Epic Ships. These events are available and recommended for players level 30 or higher. The enemies you will be facing are well equipped and prepared. They are quite a step up from the regular Ships and Mercenaries you have encountered so far.
The rewards for each event will vary, but the constant among them is the quality of items – epic of golds. Each successfully completed mission will grant you the special currency which takes the lead in my list of hardest to pronounce names – Orichalcum (a metal, prized in the ancient worlds). You can use these stones to purchase gear and items from a special merchant called Sargon at the Oikos of the Olympians. His contents will be refreshed and updated each week with new items. You can purchase an item or, if you feel lucky, get an “Olympian Gift”, which is a fancy name for a lootbox.
The Weekly Live Events are available in the form of contracts at each notice board. Don’t forget that you have one placed very conveniently right on your ship. You will recognize these missions by the blue icon next to the title. They are optional and have no relation to the main story of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
THE EPIC MERCENARIES
These are special kind of mercenary NPCs. If you take a live weekly mission featuring a contract to track down and defeat one of these enemies, you’d better be well prepared, have your gear upgraded and be ready for a tough fight (especially on higher difficulty levels).
Like with any other NPC of higher tier, if you time your attacks wisely, you can recruit the Epic Mercenary for your crew. To do this, you have to deal non-lethal combat attacks until they drop down ready for recruiting.
The rewards will be granted to you automatically regardless of how you finish – with a kill or with a recruitment. You will receive Drachmae, XP, Orichalum and Epic Gear or Weapon item.
THE EPIC SHIPS
The alternative to Epic Mercenaries are the Epic Ships. Once again these are available as contracts at the quest board on your ship or in most cities around the map.
An Epic Ship is not easy or quick to take down. They also never travel alone. A number of smaller ships will always be accompanying it.
Sinking an Epic Ship grants you automatically a reward containing Drachmae, XP, Orichalum and an Epic Gear of Weapon item.
