This quick guide will show you where to find and how to defeat Steropes – The Lightning Bringer – an ancient creature in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Video is also available at the bottom of the page.

On November 13th Ubisoft released a new epic monster for Kassandra and Alexios to find and kill. Steropes – The Lightning Bringer is a high level cyclops. His quest is automatically placed in your inventory under the Bounties category – it’s a Bounty indeed. There’s no rush, though. It doesn’t expire and you can take your time or go kill it right away – your choice.

Where to find Steropes

The quest is called simply “The Lightning Bringer” and is recommended for a level 50 character. Steropes himself is located on Andros – the same island where the Ancient Forge is. You most likely have discovered the fast travel to the Forge, so simply get to it, exit and head west. You will find him inside a small cave on the northern part of Steropes Bay.

Description of the mission:

Shipwrecks were always a risk, but they were never as abundant as when Steropes roamed. Witnesses swore they’d seen him, the Lightning Bringer, on a rampage around the Greek world.

Note: If you prefer to watch the video walkthrough, it’s available at the bottom of this post. The clip shows Steropes’s location on the map, the full fight and the Legendary bow you get as a reward.

If you play on the lowest difficulty, simply go in the cave and start slashing. You’ll be done in less than a minute. On Normal or higher difficulties, though, you will have to pay attention to Steropes’s special attacks.

As a giant creature, he naturally has a wide AoE. Some of his attacks deal damage on a 360 degree cone, be careful and dodge back and away when you see him preparing to do something.

Stomping the waters

When Steropes starts stomping the water, move away and shoot him with your bow until the channeled attack ends.

Rush Attack

When Steropes places his right hand in front of his eyes, he is about to rush towards you. You can dodge to the side, which will allow you to do some nice damage from his back. After the “rush attack”, Steropes stays still and action-less for a brief moment – get close and hit him hard, then dodge away before he hits you.

Water Waves

When Steropes lifts his left hand (with the weapon) high above his head, start moving. This is a heavy frontal attack with quite a long range (the guy has long arms :P). It also sends waves forward in a straight line, which you can easily avoid by simply staying on the move or dodging. Later in the fight he does a series of these in a row (unless he hits you with one, then he cancels the next one(s)).

Melee Attack

Steropes may also attempt to hit you with his right hand when you are near him. Dodging this one in the perfect moment opens a great opportunity for you to enter “slow-mo” and land a few hard hits.

The Spot Attack

Steropes’s most annoying attack (for me) is the one where he leans forward and starts bashing the water, creating AoE waves of damage under your feet. The attack spawns under your current location and you better keep moving while he’s doing it.

Hunter builds would be preferable here if you want to do it the easy way. Use every single moment you are away from him to shoot arrows and build your rage. I went with my favorite Warrior Build and it took me a bit longer to take him down, as I dodged and rolled away a few times just to be safe.

Mission Reward

Steropes's Bow

For killing Steropes you get his Legendary Bow with the following stats:

  • + Hunter Damage (15% at level 50)
  • + Damage with Bow Charged Shot (10% at level 50)
  • +20% Health and Armor (Legendary Engraving)
  • An Empty Engraving Slot
